Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Choose a third-person Soulslike if you prefer seeing your character alongside enemies and judging movement and spacing from outside the character. Neither camera angle guarantees a particular difficulty or quality: the right choice depends on which view and combat cues you enjoy, and each game implements them differently.
How the perspectives change the experience
The differences below are practical ways to think about your preference, not measured outcomes or rules that apply to every game. A title’s combat, level design, and camera behavior matter as much as its perspective.
| What you value | First-person may suit you if… | Third-person may suit you if… |
|---|---|---|
| Immersion and closeness | You want the surroundings to dominate your view and enjoy inspecting spaces from the character’s viewpoint. | You want to see your character as part of the scene. |
| Spatial awareness | You like discovering a space as you move through it and are comfortable seeing less of your character. | You want your character and nearby enemies visible together to help judge position and movement. |
| Combat cues | You are comfortable responding to attacks and threats within the first-person view. | You enjoy watching enemy movement and managing spacing, lock-on, dodges, and parries as part of combat. |
| Exploration | You value close environmental discovery and the mood of a dungeon crawl. | You value seeing routes and combat spaces with your character visible in the world. |
What first-person Soulslike-adjacent games offer
A first-person lineage
First-person fantasy exploration is not a new idea in FromSoftware’s history. The studio describes King’s Field as a first-person 3D RPG set in the underground tomb of Verdite, where players explore, fight with sword and magic, and move through a dark fantasy world. It is a useful historical reference for first-person action-RPG exploration, rather than proof that all first-person Soulslikes share the same combat or structure. A modern example: Lunacid
Lunacid is a dark fantasy dungeon crawler that cites Shadow Tower and King’s Field as inspirations. Its Steam listing identifies it as a first-person RPG and a Souls-like, making it a contemporary example of this adjacent lineage. That description does not mean it reproduces every feature of third-person FromSoftware Soulslikes. View Lunacid on Steam.

What third-person play makes visible
In third person, the character stays in view alongside the surrounding action. That can help players who like to watch enemy movement, judge where they are in relation to a threat, and follow movement through a combat space. It also makes camera handling part of play: lock-on and camera reset are practical tools, not just presentation options.
Bandai Namco’s official Elden Ring materials describe combat in terms of reading enemy intentions and using well-timed dodges or parries. Its starter guide also lists camera reset and lock-on controls. Those details illustrate the kinds of cues and camera management third-person players may value; they do not establish that every third-person Soulslike works the same way. Does perspective determine difficulty or Soulslike structure?
No. Camera perspective alone does not tell you how difficult a game will feel, how fair its encounters are, or whether you will enjoy it. A first-person view may make close exploration appealing to one player, while another may find it harder to track threats. Likewise, third person can make the character and nearby action easier for some players to read, but it does not guarantee easier combat. These are preference-based expectations, not results from a controlled comparison.
Nor does the label “Soulslike” promise one fixed map structure. In a publisher discussion of the Souls series, Bandai Namco describes paths that branch and connect through hubs, with bosses acting as progression gates. That is commentary about the series, not a definition that every Soulslike must meet. Check the individual game rather than inferring its layout or progression from its camera. How to choose your next game
- Decide what you want to see. Pick first person if you want the environment to fill your view; pick third person if you want your character visible alongside the action.
- Think about how you read combat. Consider whether you prefer reacting to threats within a first-person view or tracking enemy movement and spacing with your character in view.
- Check the specific game’s camera and combat. “First-person” and “third-person” do not guarantee identical camera behavior, exploration, or fighting systems from one game to another. Look at that title’s description and gameplay before deciding.
