To play games installed on your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One away from your TV, use Xbox Remote Play: enable remote features on the console, then visit xbox.com/remoteplay in a supported browser and connect a compatible controller. Xbox lists Android 6.0 or later and iOS 15.1 or later for phones and tablets, plus 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data with at least 10 Mbps down. Remote Play streams from your own console; it is different from Xbox Cloud Gaming.
What you need for Xbox Remote Play
- An Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One with remote features enabled.
- A Microsoft account with the Xbox profile you use on the console.
- A supported browser on your phone or handheld. Xbox currently lists Android 6.0+ and iOS 15.1+ for phone and tablet access.
- A supported Bluetooth controller for mobile play.
- 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data. Xbox lists 10 Mbps download speed; mobile data charges may apply.
These are Xbox’s stated requirements, not a promise of a particular picture quality or responsiveness. Actual results depend on the network connection between your device and console. Check Xbox’s current Remote Play page for compatibility details, which can change.
Set up Remote Play on a phone
- Enable remote features on your console. On your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One, turn on its remote features before leaving home. Xbox requires this setting for Remote Play.
- Connect a controller. Pair a supported Bluetooth controller with your phone. Xbox names the Xbox Wireless Controller and Backbone One as options. Backbone One connects to compatible USB-C iPhone or Android phones; confirm the exact phone and connector compatibility before choosing a model.
- Open the browser Remote Play page. On the phone, visit xbox.com/remoteplay in a supported browser and sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox profile.
- Choose your console and start playing. Remote Play streams games installed on that console to your device.
- Use a suitable connection. Xbox lists 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data at 10 Mbps down. If you use cellular data, your carrier may charge you.
Xbox announced browser access on April 16, 2025, and said Remote Play would no longer be directly available from the Xbox mobile app. The browser is the route to use on a phone: Xbox’s announcement.
Can you stream Xbox games to a handheld?
Possibly, but check the handheld and the streaming mode separately. Xbox describes Remote Play as available on devices with a supported browser; compatibility with one handheld does not automatically establish that its browser will work for Remote Play. On the device you plan to use, check that its browser is supported, open xbox.com/remoteplay, and test the sign-in and controller flow.

Some handhelds are specifically named by Xbox for Cloud Gaming, including ROG Xbox Ally, ROG Xbox Ally X, Logitech G Cloud and Razer Edge. Xbox’s December 2025 guide also describes Steam Deck support for Cloud Gaming as in beta. Those examples concern Cloud Gaming and do not, by themselves, confirm Remote Play support or an identical setup on those devices. See Xbox’s Cloud Gaming guide.
Remote Play and Cloud Gaming are different

The two speed figures apply to different services. Do not treat the Cloud Gaming recommendation as the Remote Play requirement, or assume Cloud Gaming device support means Remote Play will work on the same device.

Do you need Game Pass or an Xbox controller?
For mobile Remote Play, Xbox requires a supported Bluetooth controller and names the Xbox Wireless Controller and Backbone One. A phone-mounted controller is optional if you already have another compatible controller; verify that it supports your device and connection method.
Xbox does not say that every Remote Play session requires Game Pass. Some games or online multiplayer may require a separate Xbox Game Pass subscription, depending on the game and activity. Cloud Gaming has separate plan and game-eligibility details, so check Xbox’s current information for the service you intend to use.

If Remote Play does not work
- The page will not load or sign-in fails: Confirm you are using a supported browser, visit the browser page directly, and sign in with the Microsoft account linked to your Xbox profile.
- Your console is unavailable: Check that it is an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One and that remote features were enabled on the console.
- You cannot control the game: Pair a supported Bluetooth controller with the phone. Xbox names the Xbox Wireless Controller and Backbone One, but not every controller or phone combination is guaranteed to work.
- Streaming is unstable: Check the actual connection and try 5 GHz Wi-Fi or a stronger mobile-data connection. Xbox’s 10 Mbps-down figure is guidance, not a latency or image-quality guarantee.
- You are using a handheld: Confirm browser compatibility and test the Remote Play browser flow instead of relying on a Cloud Gaming compatibility listing.
