Rod passives, fishing location, level requirements, weight capacity, and whether you can actually obtain the rod all matter. For a reliable early route, get the free Fungal Rod if possible, then work toward the Arctic Rod, Trident Rod, and eventually the Rod of The Depths or Kraken Rod. Treat late-game recommendations as build choices rather than a fixed ladder, because current guides disagree about the endgame roster.

Beginner rods
Flimsy Rod
Fisch gives new players the Flimsy Rod. A current guide lists a 10.4 kg maximum, with the other base stats at zero. It is a starting tool rather than a rod worth investing in long term.

Carbon Rod
The Carbon Rod costs 2,000 C$ at Moosewood. Its listed stats are:
- 15% lure speed
- 25% luck
- 0.05 control
- 10% resilience
- 600 kg maximum
Carbon is the straightforward paid upgrade if you want to improve immediately. However, it is not always the most efficient first purchase because the Fungal Rod can be obtained for free.
Fungal Rod
To obtain the Fungal Rod, catch an Alligator and return it to Agaric at Mushgrove Swamp. The rod costs no money, but the quest is a failure point: catching the required fish is not enough unless you return it to Agaric.

Early- and mid-game upgrades
Arctic Rod
The Arctic Rod is sold at Northern Summit for 25,000 C$. Its listed stats are 25% lure speed, 45% luck, 0.06 control, 15% resilience, and a 7,500 kg maximum.
Arctic is a useful bridge rod because it improves capacity substantially without giving up the balanced handling benefits of lure speed, control, and resilience. A sensible path is Fungal or Carbon, then Arctic once you can afford it.
Trident Rod
The Trident Rod is sold at Trident’s Temple for 150,000 C$. It has 25% lure speed, 150% luck, 0.05 control, 0% resilience, and a 6,000 kg maximum.

Its reported passive gives a 30% chance of the Atlantean mutation, with a 3× value multiplier. That passive is the main reason to pursue Trident. Its zero resilience and lower capacity than Arctic are real trade-offs, so it is not automatically better for every fish or location.
Sunken Rod
The Sunken Rod is obtained from Treasure Chests; it cannot be purchased. That makes it a luck-based side upgrade rather than a dependable step in a guaranteed route.
Its listed stats are 30% lure speed, 150% luck, 0.15 control, 15% resilience, and a 5,000 kg maximum. The unusually high control makes it appealing if you obtain it, but do not plan your entire progression around finding one.
Advanced rods
Rod of The Depths
The Rod of The Depths is sold inside The Depths for 750,000 C$. Its listed stats are 65% lure speed, 130% luck, 0.15 control, 10% resilience, and a 30,000 kg maximum.

That makes it valuable for sustained farming, not merely for catching the heaviest individual fish. For many players, this is a more practical long-term target than chasing a rod whose value depends entirely on rare mutation rolls.
Kraken Rod
The Kraken Rod is sold at Atlantis for 1,333,333 C$. Its listed stats are 60% lure speed, 185% luck, 0.2 control, 15% resilience, and a 115,000 kg maximum.
Reported passives include:
- A 10% chance to double a catch
- A 5% Tentacle Surge chance worth 10× value
- A guaranteed legendary, mythical, or exotic fish every 50 catches
Kraken is one of the strongest broadly useful targets in the supplied current data because it combines capacity, handling, luck, and multiple income-oriented effects. It should not automatically replace a specialized rod whose passive is better for a particular mutation or quest.

Abyssal Specter Rod
A separate current rod database lists the Abyssal Specter Rod at Atlantis, costing 850,000 C$ and requiring level 170. Its listed stats are 60% lure speed, 90% luck, 0.3 control, 70% resilience, and infinite maximum weight.
Those stats make it a handling- and resilience-focused alternative to Kraken. Because the available sources do not provide a unified official roster or progression order, verify the rod’s availability in your current server before saving specifically for it.
Late-game and endgame rods
At this point, comparing passives is more useful than simply buying the next rod in numerical order.
Great Dreamer Rod
The Great Dreamer Rod is obtained from a shipwreck on Cursed Isle. The cited route uses a Smokescreen Totem, purchased from the Shipwright for 2,000 C$, at night.
Great Rod of Oscar
The Great Rod of Oscar is associated with Grand Reef and Terrapin Island. The reported route is to obtain a purple amulet from a sunken boat at Grand Reef, then use it at a glowing green barrier in an underwater cave south of Terrapin Island.

No-Life Rod
The No-Life Rod is listed as a level-500 unlock. Its listed stats are 90% lure speed, 105% luck, 0.23 control, 10% resilience, and a 10,000 kg maximum. It has strong handling statistics, but its comparatively low capacity means it is not automatically the best choice for the heaviest catches.

Its reported effects are 22% daytime progress speed, 222% nighttime progress speed, a 30% Diurnal mutation chance at 13.5× value, and a 10% Nocturnal mutation chance at 16.2× value. It is especially specialized around time-of-day fishing.
Craftable rods

Toxic Spire Rod

Its listed stats are 90% lure speed, 215% luck, 0.2 control, 50% resilience, and infinite maximum weight. Its passive reportedly guarantees a higher-rarity fish, which may make it preferable for rarity-focused farming even if another rod has better raw speed.

One current route recommends Fungal Rod → Arctic Rod → Trident Rod → Sunken Rod → Rod of The Depths → Kraken Rod → Chrysalis Rod/Wingripper. Another 2026 guide recommends Carbon Rod → Fungal Rod → Brine Infused Rod → King’s Rod → Fallen Rod → Toxic Spire Rod → Illuminescent Oath → Cerulean Fang Rod → Elder Moss Ripper → Ruinous Oath → Dream Breaker Rod → Fabulous Rod.
The conflict is not limited to one upgrade. The guides disagree about the first purchase, the endgame roster, and the relative importance of rods that appear to be tied to newer content. A current database also lists King’s Rod at Keepers Altar for 100,000 C$, but the available extract does not expose its complete statistics.
For that reason, avoid claims that one rod is definitively the final rod. Use the progression above as a decision framework, then check the rod’s in-game listing, level requirement, location, and passive before committing resources.
How to choose your next rod
- Check the catch you are targeting. Capacity matters for heavy fish, while luck and mutation passives matter for rare or valuable variants.
- Compare passives before base stats. An extra fish, guaranteed rarity, mutation multiplier, or duplicate-catch effect can outweigh a modest lure-speed difference.
- Do not count RNG drops as guaranteed upgrades. Sunken Rod is chest-dependent, so keep progressing while opening Treasure Chests rather than waiting for it.
- Account for location and traversal. Some routes require special access. Brine Infused Rod is reported to require a glider for Desolate Deep, while Fallen Rod is reported to perform substantially worse above Y = −400.
- Match the rod to the time and catch conditions. Wingripper’s reported effects favor daytime or nighttime targets, and Great Dreamer’s route requires a night-time setup.
- For quest rods, complete every objective precisely. Fungal requires returning the Alligator to Agaric, and Illuminescent Oath is reported to require eight specified fish and perfect catches for consistent Master mutations.
Bottom line
For most new players, pursue the free Fungal Rod, buy Carbon instead if you want an immediate and more balanced upgrade, then aim for Arctic and Trident. After that, Rod of The Depths is a strong general-purpose farming target, while Kraken is the major high-cost upgrade for capacity, luck, and valuable passives. In the endgame, choose by passive and fishing objective rather than assuming the highest stage or newest-sounding rod is automatically best.
