Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit is a generally well-reviewed 2D horror adventure that trades the series’ familiar camera-monitoring format for time travel, puzzle-solving, and stealth. It is an appealing pick for FNaF fans and players who like tense, story-led horror, though at least one critic found its ending unsatisfying and its scares insufficiently escalating.
What kind of game is Into the Pit?
You play as Oswald, who enters a ball pit in a rundown pizzeria and travels into the past. Across a five-night horror adventure, you gather clues, solve puzzles, move between time periods, and hide from or escape an animatronic threat. Mega Cat Studios describes it as a game to “Survive five nights of terror in this chilling adventure game.” Mega Cat Studios’ press kit and the Steam listing outline the premise and gameplay.
That structure gives the spin-off a different rhythm from FNaF games built around monitoring cameras: progress depends on exploration and puzzles as well as avoiding danger. The available review evidence praises the suspense, story, and series atmosphere, but does not establish that every part of the premise works equally well for every player.
What do critics and players think?
Metacritic labels the PC version’s critic reception “Generally Favorable.” Its displayed score is 87/100, based on 9 critic reviews. Reviewers praise the tense story, puzzles, suspense, pixel-art presentation, and FNaF atmosphere; one listed review takes issue with the ending and says the scares do not escalate enough. Steam’s player score is a separate measure, not another critic aggregate. On the English-language Steam review snapshot accessed October 8, 2026, 95% of 5,061 reviews were positive; that percentage and count can change as new reviews arrive. Check the live Steam listing for the current figures. These two signals point in a favorable direction, but neither guarantees that the story, ending, or style of scares will suit a particular player.
Is Into the Pit scary, and is it suitable for children?
The game is rated T for Teen by the ESRB for Blood and Fantasy Violence. The ESRB also identifies kidnapping, murder themes, and jump scares, so the rating is useful context for families and for anyone sensitive to horror. Which platforms can you play it on?
Mega Cat Studios lists Steam, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. Nintendo lists a digital Switch edition and says game behavior is supported on Switch 2. The developer’s press kit lists August 8, 2024, while Steam lists the PC release as August 7, 2024; use the platform’s own listing for its date rather than treating the one-day difference as a universal release date.
A physical release was announced in partnership with iam8bit. The announcement establishes that a physical edition was planned, but current availability, stock, and pricing depend on the retailer and region. Check the seller’s listing before buying.
