Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic is a released, single-player horror-adventure set in the abandoned workshop of Murray’s Costume Manor. You investigate the work of inventor Edwin Murray while avoiding the Mimic, a prototype endoskeleton that can adapt to costumes and imitate different characters. It is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. VR is optional on PS5; Steam also lists PC VR support.
What is Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic?
Developed by Steel Wool Studios, Secret of the Mimic is a single-player entry in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. Its official store descriptions frame the game as a horror-adventure built around exploration, clues, puzzles, stealth and survival.
The setting is Murray’s Costume Manor, an abandoned workshop associated with reclusive inventor Edwin Murray. Your objective is to recover Fazbear prototype technology while investigating the manor and evading the Mimic. The Steam description explains the threat this way: “The Mimic, a prototype endoskeleton, can adapt to any costume and become any character, including what you fear most.” This is publisher-provided storefront copy, not a quote attributed to a named speaker.

Do you need a VR headset to play?
No. PlayStation labels PS VR2 as optional, so it is not a requirement for the PS5 version. Steam lists VR support for PC, but its supported headset paths and hardware details apply to that PC setup, not to console play.

PC VR support
Steam lists Valve Index and Meta Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro via SteamVR and Steam Link. Official Steam Community announcements report that PC VR went live in May 2026 and that a PS VR2 update was released. Specific features and compatibility can change with updates, so check the current store listing and official announcements before choosing a headset.
PS5 VR support
On PS5, the optional VR setup uses PlayStation VR2 and PS VR2 Sense controllers. If you plan to play on a standard display, you do not need to buy a VR headset for the game.

What is different about the Switch version?
Nintendo lists the Switch version as digital, with TV, tabletop and handheld play modes. The eShop lists a 6.1 GB file size and 11 supported languages. It also states that the game is supported on Nintendo Switch 2 and that play behavior is consistent with the Switch version. Store details such as file size and language information may be region-specific or change over time.

- Choose Steam if you want to play on PC, meet the published minimum requirements, or are interested in its listed PC VR support.
- Choose PS5 if you want the PlayStation version, with the option to use PS VR2 but no requirement to own it.
