For a recent purchase, check its receipt and purchase history before troubleshooting the client.
If all your previously owned games are missing, check the account
When games you activated before disappear, Steam says the most likely explanation is that you’re signed into a different account. Local game files or a shortcut in the Library do not establish that the current account owns the game.
- Check the account name currently signed into Steam.
- If it is not the account you used to acquire the game, sign into the correct account.
- If you cannot identify or access that account, use Steam’s account recovery and lookup flow to find accounts associated with your email address or phone number and recover access.
Steam’s “Games Are Missing from my Library” FAQ treats account mismatch as the first thing to investigate when previously activated games are gone.
If only some games are missing, clear filters and check Hidden Games
Show all games in the Library
Open the Library and check whether a filter or search is limiting the titles shown. Clear the search and select the option to show all games. If the missing game appears, no ownership or installation repair was needed; the list was simply filtered.

Remove the game from Hidden Games
- In the Steam client, select View > Hidden Games.
- Right-click the missing game.
- Select Manage > Remove from Hidden.
The game should then return to the regular Library listing. Steam documents both visibility checks in its missing-games FAQ.
If you just purchased the game, verify that the purchase completed
A game may not appear while a purchase is still pending. Look for the Steam receipt and check your purchase history to confirm the transaction’s status.
- Check the email address associated with your Steam account for a receipt.
- Open Steam purchase history and locate the transaction.
- If there is no receipt or the transaction is pending, resolve the purchase status before treating the issue as a Library or installation problem.
- If the purchase is complete but the game is still missing, sign out of the Steam client and sign back in.
These are the checks Steam recommends for a game purchased but not appearing in the Library.
If Steam says “Pre-Load Complete,” check ownership and sharing access
Pre-Load Complete means the game files are installed locally; it does not mean the account currently has a license to play. Steam says this status can appear when the signed-in account does not own the game or no longer has access through Family Sharing.

Check whether the game belongs to another Steam account on the device, or whether Family Sharing access has changed. Do not treat existing files or the Pre-Load Complete message as proof of current ownership. See Steam’s explanation of the Pre-Load Complete status.
If the Library entry is a non-Steam game, it is only a shortcut
Adding a non-Steam game to your Library creates a shortcut for launching it from Steam. It does not add the title to your Steam account, provide Steam updates, or prove that the account owns a Steam version. If you expected a purchased Steam game, return to the account and purchase-history checks rather than relying on the shortcut. Steam explains this distinction in its non-Steam game shortcut guidance.

If the game appears as uninstalled but its files are still on your PC
This is a different problem from a missing Library listing. Once you have confirmed that the correct account owns or can access the game, use Steam’s separate guidance for games that are installed but not appearing as installed. For installation or update problems, Steam also describes repairing a Library folder and verifying game files in its installation and update troubleshooting.
Do not uninstall the Steam client as an early fix for a missing listing: Steam warns that uninstalling it deletes game content. Start with account, visibility, and purchase checks instead.
