To fix Android PC game streaming, identify where the failure occurs: controller recognition, game input mapping, the Wi-Fi or network path, or video processing. Test each part of the chain—controller → Android → streaming app → host PC → game—and change one thing at a time. A controller listed as supported is not a guarantee that every model and Android device combination will work.
Start by identifying which part is failing
Separate input problems from streaming problems before changing settings. If the picture is smooth but controls are missing or mapped incorrectly, focus on the controller path. If controls work but the stream stutters or responds slowly, check the network and video-processing path.
- Check Android recognition. Confirm that Android detects the controller and that its buttons or sticks register there.
- Check the streaming app. See whether the app receives the controller input.
- Check the host and game. Confirm that the PC receives input and that the game recognizes the intended controller.
- Check stream performance. Use an available performance overlay or log to distinguish network trouble from other sources of delay.
Confirm the streaming setup and compatibility
Steam Link on Android
Valve’s Steam Link support page specifies Android 5.0 or newer, a computer running Steam, and recommends a 5 GHz wireless router. For local setup, it says the Android device and host PC should be on the same network. Those are Steam Link requirements and recommendations, not universal requirements for every streaming app.
The page names Steam Controller, Xbox One S Controller, DualShock 4 on Android 9.0 or newer, Razer Kishi, and Raiju Mobile as supported inputs. Valve notes that other devices may work, so an unlisted controller is not necessarily incompatible.

Moonlight on Android
Moonlight’s Android listing describes streaming from a PC running NVIDIA GeForce Experience or Sunshine; the listing identifies GeForce Experience as NVIDIA-only and Sunshine as supporting all GPUs. Follow the pairing setup for the host software you use rather than applying Steam Link’s setup requirements.
Moonlight lists PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series controllers, and Android gamepads. Its setup guide recommends a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection for the Android client and Ethernet from the PC to the router where possible. It also cautions that some controllers can have latency or disconnection problems on Android; test the specific controller with the specific device.

Fix controller input and game mapping
Test the connection before changing game settings
If Android does not recognize the controller, the problem is upstream of the streaming app. Reconnect it and check Android’s input response first. If practical, compare Bluetooth with a wired connection supported by your device. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a presumption that Bluetooth is always the cause.
If Android sees the controller but the streaming app does not, check the app’s controller settings and whether it supports that controller and connection method. If the app receives input but the game does not, investigate host-side controller configuration and the game’s own input options.

Check Steam and host-side controller order
For a game streamed through Steam, verify that Steam and the game are using the expected controller layout. If input reaches Steam but fails in a game streamed through Sunshine, Sunshine’s version 2026.214.30634 troubleshooting guide suggests checking Steam controller-support configuration, including trying only generic controller support. It also advises checking whether another controller connected to the host takes precedence. These are targeted checks for that setup, not universal fixes.
Diagnose Wi-Fi and network instability
For game streaming, a stable path matters more than headline bandwidth alone. Sunshine’s troubleshooting documentation says: “For real-time game streaming the most important characteristic of the network path between server and client is not pure bandwidth but rather stability and consistency (low latency with low variance, minimal or no packet loss).”

Make one network change at a time
- Connect the PC to the router by Ethernet if possible, and use a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection for Android when the app recommends it.
- Reduce competing wireless traffic between the PC, router, and Android device. Steam notes that simultaneous wireless traffic can interfere with Remote Play and cause choppy streaming.
- Check whether the issue occurs only on a public or corporate Wi-Fi network. Such networks may block streaming applications; firewall rules can also prevent local device discovery or streaming.
- Retest in the same game and conditions after each change so you can tell which adjustment mattered.
Steam recommends its Remote Play performance overlay to help identify network-related problems in its network settings guidance. Use that information before changing hardware or assuming the Wi-Fi signal is the only cause.
Use a packet-loss and jitter test when needed
For a more technical network check, Sunshine documents an iPerf3 reverse UDP test and advises watching packet loss and jitter. Its version 2026.214.30634 troubleshooting guide describes packet loss under 5% and jitter below 1 ms as ideal guidance. These figures are Sunshine’s troubleshooting targets, not guarantees for every game, client, or Wi-Fi environment. The same guide describes stream bursts every 16 ms at 60 fps; that is a description of stream behavior, not an independent performance benchmark.

Separate network delay from video and game performance
A stream can feel slow even when the controller is recognized and the connection has adequate bandwidth. Moonlight’s latency explanation accounts for the input traveling to the host and the resulting audio and video returning to the client. Responsiveness can therefore involve network transport, encoding, decoding, game rendering, the display, or controller behavior.
- Use the streaming client’s performance overlay or logs, if available, to see whether the delay points to the network or another stage.
- Temporarily reduce stream load as a diagnostic step, then compare the result in the same game and network conditions.
- If the overlay does not point to the network, return to the input and host checks instead of continuing to change Wi-Fi settings.
The available documentation does not establish a universal performance winner between Steam Link and Moonlight. Results depend on the specific Android device, controller, host setup, game, and network path.
