Do not reinstall Farming Simulator 25 first. Multiplayer “lag” can be network delay, frame-rate stutter, a host upload bottleneck, or a mod/save synchronization problem. Update the game, restart every Xbox, then test a new multiplayer save on an official map with no mods. If that works, restore content gradually. If it does not, have the player with the strongest upload connection host and compare the result over Ethernet.
First, identify what “lag” means

In multiplayer, the latency indicator appears in the upper-left of the minimap. GIANTS describes under 100 ms as a useful target where possible, not a guaranteed no-lag limit. A low reading with severe visual hitching points away from internet latency and toward rendering, mods, the save, or server simulation.

1. Update FS25, then restart after the update
The latest official patch located for this research pass was Farming Simulator 25 Patch 1.21, released for PC and consoles on July 28, 2026. Its Xbox fixes included a problem where larger mod downloads could fail on some network configurations. It did not claim to eliminate all multiplayer lag.

Check for the update on every Xbox, close the game completely, and restart the consoles before testing again. GIANTS also warns that the first launch after a major update may stutter while shaders are recompiled. A brief first-launch hitch is therefore different from persistent rubber-banding or delayed actions.

2. Run a clean multiplayer test
This is the most useful test because it separates a general connection problem from a damaged save or incompatible content.
- Close Farming Simulator 25 completely on every Xbox.
- Confirm that every player is running the same current game version.
- Temporarily disable or remove all mods for the test.
- Have the host create a new save on an official, unmodified map.
- Use the same players and play for several minutes in the problem areas.
- Watch the minimap latency and note whether the issue affects everyone or only one player.
If the clean session is smooth, the original save or its content is involved. If it still lags, prioritize the host, network, NAT, server, or a broader game issue. Preserve a backup before changing or removing content from the original save. GIANTS specifically recommends a new save without modifications when multiplayer loading problems occur.

3. Change the host and improve the connection
For a locally hosted game, the host’s upload connection matters especially. A fast download speed on a client does not compensate for a host with limited or unstable upload capacity. GIANTS recommends at least 5 Mbit/s upload for the host and says the player with the fastest connection should host where possible. More players, larger farms, and heavier simulation activity may require more than that recommendation.

- Have the player with the lowest latency and strongest upload speed host.
- Connect the host Xbox directly to the router with Ethernet.
- If only one console can be wired, prioritize the host.
- Stop streaming, large downloads, cloud backups, photo uploads, and security-camera uploads during the test.
- Repeat the same clean-save test with the original host and then an alternate host.
If changing the host fixes the issue, the original host’s upload capacity, location, Wi-Fi, router, or console workload is the likely bottleneck. Geographic distance between players can also raise latency. Ethernet reduces wireless interference and data loss, but it cannot fix ISP congestion, a distant host, a bad mod, or an overloaded server.
4. Check Xbox NAT and router behavior
On each Xbox, check the network status screen and note the NAT result. Strict or Moderate NAT, failed multiplayer connectivity, double NAT, or inconsistent connection tests justify router troubleshooting. Exact Xbox labels can change, so use the current network settings shown on your console rather than relying on an old menu path.
- Enable UPnP on the router if it supports it, then restart the router and Xbox.
- Check whether both an ISP gateway and a second router are performing routing. That can create double NAT.
- Remove VPNs and proxies while testing; GIANTS says they can interfere with multiplayer connections.
- Do not begin by forwarding a long list of ports or changing DNS.

If UPnP and normal NAT troubleshooting do not help, reserve a stable local IP for the host Xbox and follow the router manufacturer’s instructions for those ports. Do not forward unrelated services or copy port lists from older Farming Simulator guides: GIANTS’ older network guide was written for earlier versions and Xbox One, so it is not proof that every legacy entry is required for FS25 on Series X|S.

5. Find a bad mod, map, or save
GIANTS identifies mods as a common cause of multiplayer loading problems. A mod can also cause frame-rate drops, synchronization trouble, or excessive simulation work even when every player has installed it and it works in single-player.
- Start with the clean save described above.
- Re-enable mods in small groups rather than all at once.
- When the lag returns, split the last group in half and test again.
- Continue until you isolate the offending mod or combination.
- Remove outdated, duplicated, script-heavy, or incompatible content and update the rest.
This binary-search method is faster and safer than deleting everything permanently. A mod-download fix in Patch 1.21 does not mean that all mod-related lag is fixed. GIANTS does not provide official support for individual third-party mods; mod-specific problems are directed to the official community forum.

Also verify that every player has the same map, mods, required DLC, and game version. A mismatch can appear as a failed join, loading hang, disconnect, or apparent lag. Crossplay participants should use compatible versions and content. If your group can test without crossplay, treat that only as a comparison—not proof that crossplay itself is defective.

Test the affected save in single-player. If it stutters alone, inspect local performance rather than changing router settings. Compare the save with a new single-player game and test away from dense forests, large machinery clusters, animal areas, production buildings, traffic, and mod-heavy farms. These are diagnostic comparisons, not guaranteed causes.
FS25 added performance modes for Xbox Series X in Patch 1.5. Look under the game’s current graphics or general settings for the available performance-oriented option. It may improve frame-rate smoothness, but it will not lower ping or repair a weak host connection. The researched official material confirms the Series X feature but does not establish an identical settings menu or complete performance-mode matrix for Series S, so do not assume the same option is presented identically on both consoles.

7. Consider a dedicated server only after the free tests
A dedicated server is worth considering when Xbox-hosted sessions remain unreliable, the host’s upload connection is inconsistent, the host’s console is also running a demanding farm, the host often leaves, or the group wants a persistent world. Moving simulation away from a player’s Xbox can isolate a host-specific problem.
It is not a guaranteed cure. A dedicated server will not repair an incompatible mod, corrupted save, poor routing, or excessive distance from the server. It adds a recurring cost, and console compatibility, crossplay support, mod management, backups, player slots, location, and cancellation terms must be checked for the specific FS25 provider and plan.
Use one only if a clean, unmodded local test performs poorly but a controlled external-server test is expected to remove the host bottleneck. Do not buy a server before testing a different host and a clean save.
8. When to report the problem to GIANTS
Contact GIANTS when a current, unmodded save still reproduces the issue after testing another host, Ethernet, and normal NAT conditions. Include:
- Xbox model: Series X or Series S
- FS25 version and the date the problem began
- Map, save, player count, and whether the session uses crossplay
- Complete mod and DLC list
- Which player hosts and the host’s approximate upload speed
- NAT status, Ethernet or Wi-Fi details, and observed minimap latency
- Exact error message and the precise point where loading or play fails
- Whether single-player and a new unmodded multiplayer save reproduce it
- Video or screenshots showing the delay, stutter, disconnect, or loading screen
GIANTS refers to diagnostic logs in its support guidance, but Xbox players may not have the same direct file access as PC users. If no log can be retrieved, provide the session details, screenshots, and video instead.
