Check compatibility before changing any settings. A G29 is designed for PlayStation and PC, a G920 is designed for Xbox and PC, and the G923 is sold in separate PlayStation/PC and Xbox/PC versions. No Windows setting or in-game configuration can make an incompatible console variant work natively.

If your wheel is compatible, follow this order: confirm the power adapter and cables, wait for the full calibration movement, test the wheel in Logitech G HUB and Windows with joy.cpl, then configure the game. If it is invisible in both G HUB and Windows and will not calibrate on another compatible system, the likely causes are the power adapter, cable, USB connection, or wheel hardware—not the game.

1. Confirm that your wheel works with the target platform

Logitech makes these wheels in platform-specific versions. They are not interchangeable on consoles:

Logitech identifies the G29 as a PlayStation/PC wheel and the G920 as an Xbox/PC wheel. The G923 is sold as separate Xbox/PC and PlayStation/PC variants; it is not one universally compatible console wheel.

All four variants are designed for PC use, but PC compatibility still depends on Windows, G HUB, USB detection, and whether the specific game supports the wheel. Console compatibility also does not mean every racing game supports every wheel. Check Logitech’s game compatibility list for the exact game and platform.

Correct mode for the G29

For PC use, move the G29’s platform switch to PS4 before connecting the wheel. For PS5, also use the PS4 position—not PS3. Logitech’s G29 platform setup instructions specifically require this mode.

2. The 60-second connection checklist

Perform this basic test before changing game settings:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Close the game and disconnect the wheel’s USB cable.
  2. Connect the supplied power adapter directly to a wall outlet. Do not use a USB hub to power the wheel; USB power is not enough for force feedback.
  3. Reseat the power connector in the wheel base and the AC cable in the power adapter.
  4. Connect the pedals to the pedal port on the wheel base. The pedals do not normally connect directly to the PC or console.
  5. Connect the wheel directly to the PC or console. Avoid USB hubs, extensions, and adapters while diagnosing the problem.
  6. On PC, prefer a direct rear motherboard USB port if one is available.
  7. Wait for the wheel to rotate fully left, fully right, and back to center. This is the normal startup calibration movement.
  8. On Xbox, test the wheel’s D-pad on the Xbox home screen before opening a game.
  9. On PC, open G HUB and then test the wheel in Windows with joy.cpl.

If the wheel does not move during startup, do not begin with steering sensitivity, deadzone, or Steam settings. First establish that the wheel has power and is being detected.

3. Identify the symptom before choosing a fix

What happens Most useful next step
No lights and no calibration movement Check the wall outlet, power adapter, wheel-side power connection, USB port, and another compatible system.
A G923 light blinks slowly or calibration stops partway Check motor power, the power adapter, and all connections before investigating software.
The wheel calibrates but is missing from G HUB and Windows Try another direct USB port, inspect Device Manager, and test another PC.
It appears in G HUB but not in joy.cpl Investigate Windows device registration, driver installation, or calibration data.
It appears in Windows but not in a game Check game compatibility, in-game wheel mapping, other connected controllers, and game-specific input settings.
Steering works but pedals do not Reseat the pedal connector, test each pedal in G HUB and joy.cpl, then map or invert the axes in the game.
Buttons work but force feedback is absent Check external power, G HUB, the game’s force-feedback setting, and another supported game.
The wheel is detected but is off-center, drifting, or blank in the Windows test page Test calibration and Windows registration; use Logitech’s advanced registry procedure only after backing up the registry.
The shifter is not recognized Check its connection to the wheel base and the game’s H-pattern, clutch, and gear assignments.

4. Check power, USB, and calibration

A functioning wheel normally performs a complete left-right-center calibration cycle when both its external power and USB connections are present. The exact LED behavior is not a complete diagnostic code, but Logitech says a slowly blinking G923 LED generally means the wheel is not receiving motor power. Check the wheel connection, power supply, and wall outlet before treating the problem as a game or firmware issue. See Logitech’s G923 power and force-feedback guidance.

Use the supplied adapter first

Do not buy a random replacement adapter just because it has the same-looking plug. Logitech’s published specifications list a 24 V, 1.75 A adapter for the G29 and G923 PlayStation/PC specification pages. A replacement must also match the connector, polarity, and current requirements. Start by testing the supplied adapter and its connections; contact Logitech rather than guessing if the adapter is damaged.

For a power or calibration failure, use this sequence:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Disconnect USB and remove the power adapter from the wall.
  2. Reseat the power connector at the wheel base.
  3. Reseat the AC cable at the power adapter.
  4. Try a known-good wall outlet directly, bypassing a surge strip temporarily.
  5. Reconnect the pedals firmly to the base.
  6. Reconnect USB directly to another PC or console port.
  7. Wait through the complete calibration cycle.
  8. Repeat the test on another compatible PC or console if possible.

Logitech’s platform-specific troubleshooting also recommends another USB port, avoiding hubs, checking for damaged cables, updating the system and game, trying another game, and finally testing the wheel on a computer. See the G29 PlayStation connection guide and G923 Xbox/PlayStation connection guide.

5. Fix detection on a Windows PC

Step 1: Install current Logitech G HUB

Use Logitech’s current G HUB download page, rather than relying on an old installer from a driver site. Logitech’s Windows release page lists G HUB 2026.2.861820, released April 13, 2026, for Windows 10 and Windows 11; the version can change, so download the current release shown on Logitech’s page.

  1. Disconnect the wheel if the installer asks you to do so.
  2. Install or update G HUB.
  3. Restart Windows.
  4. Connect the wheel’s power, pedals, and USB cable.
  5. Open G HUB and check whether the wheel appears on the device screen.
  6. Open the wheel page and turn the wheel, press buttons, and operate each pedal.

G HUB should show the wheel and receive live input. If it does, but a game does not, the problem has moved below the hardware and Windows layers: investigate the game configuration.

Older G29 and G920 documentation mentions Logitech Gaming Software 8.70 or later, but that is legacy documentation. G HUB is the normal current PC software path, especially for the G923. Do not install LGS as a required replacement for modern G HUB. Logitech also says its standalone Firmware Update Tool is no longer supported or maintained; use the current supported Logitech software path instead.

Logitech G920 Racing Wheel and Pedals for Xbox X|S/Xbox One/PC
  • Immersive Gaming Experience: Perfect for Xbox and PC gaming titles, the Driving Force simulates the feeling of driving a real car with precision steering and pressure-sensitive pedals
  • Premium Control: The Driving Force feedback racing wheel provides a detailed simulation of driving a real car, with helical gearing delivering smooth, quiet steering and a hand-stitched leather cover

  • Up Your Game: Take your racing simulation to the next level with Driving Force accessories like the Driving Force Shifter or desk and rig mounts

Step 2: Test Windows directly with joy.cpl

G HUB is useful, but Windows has its own controller test:

  1. Press Win + R.
  2. Type joy.cpl and press Enter.
  3. Select the Logitech wheel and click Properties.
  4. Open the Test tab.
  5. Turn the wheel, press the pedals, and press buttons and paddles.

The steering axis should move smoothly as you turn the wheel, the pedal axes should respond through their travel, and buttons should illuminate or register. Microsoft documents this Windows Game Controllers test interface.

Interpret G HUB and Windows results

G HUB joy.cpl Likely area to investigate

This table is a practical interpretation of Logitech’s separate power, G HUB, Windows-controller, Steam, and registry checks—not a guaranteed hardware diagnosis.

Step 3: Reinstall the Windows device

If Device Manager shows an error, an incorrectly named device, or a failed registration:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
  2. Look under the relevant game-controller, HID, or USB categories.
  3. Right-click the Logitech device and choose Update driver.
  4. If that does not help, choose Uninstall device.
  5. Restart Windows and reconnect the wheel so Windows can enumerate it again.
  6. Retest in G HUB and joy.cpl.

Follow Microsoft’s Device Manager driver update and reinstall instructions. Do not download an unverified driver package from a third-party site.

For broader Windows driver checks, Outbyte Driver Updater is an optional tool for identifying outdated or incompatible hardware drivers; continue to use Logitech’s and Microsoft’s instructions for this wheel.

Step 4: Use registry repair only for the advanced cases

Warning: Registry Editor is an advanced Windows tool. Do not delete arbitrary keys or change unrelated values. Back up the relevant key first, disconnect the wheel, and match the exact model identifier.

Logitech’s official connection guide identifies the registry location as:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSystemCurrentControlSetControlMediaPropertiesPrivatePropertiesJoystickOEM

The model-specific USB identifiers are:

  • G29: VID_046D&PID_C24F
  • G920: VID_046D&PID_C262
  • G923 PlayStation: VID_046D&PID_C266
  • G923 Xbox: VID_046D&PID_C26E

Use this procedure only when normal G HUB and joy.cpl checks fail, Windows has registered the wheel incorrectly, or the Windows calibration page is blank:

For persistent Windows registration or repair errors after the wheel-specific checks, Outbyte PC Repair is an optional tool for general Windows repair and stability troubleshooting.

  1. Disconnect the wheel from USB and close G HUB and all games.
  2. Open Registry Editor and export or otherwise back up the relevant registry key.
  3. Confirm the exact wheel model and identifier.
  4. Follow Logitech’s official registry procedure exactly.
  5. Reconnect the wheel, allow Windows to rebuild its device entry, and test with joy.cpl.

6. When Windows works but the game does not

A healthy wheel can work in G HUB and joy.cpl while appearing dead in a particular game. Common reasons include an unsupported title, platform-specific support, missing manual bindings, disabled force feedback, another controller being selected first, or a game-specific input conflict.

Logitech G923 Racing Wheel and Pedals for Playstation/PS5/PS4 & PC
  • TRUEFORCE: Next-gen TRUEFORCE technology connects to game engines for high-definition feedback; experience the ultimate driving experience with processing at 4000 times per second
  • Programmable dual clutch: Get off the starting line cleaner and faster; a programmable dual clutch simulates real race car launch assist right from the controller, when playing supported games
  • Control your game: Fine-tune your speed with a built-in LED RPM indicator; integrated PlayStation 5, PS4, PC game controls, a 24-point selector and progressive brake spring keep steering under control
  • Premium Racing Design: Refreshed Logitech G gear design includes premium materials like a hand-stitched black leather wheel cover and polished metal pedals; experience the pleasure of driving at home
  • On-wheel game controls: Take charge of wheel sensitivity, force feedback levels and simulated steering; Logitech G Hub Gaming software enable button customisation right from the controller

Logitech’s compatibility list includes games such as Gran Turismo 7, Forza Horizon 5, F1 23 through F1 25, Assetto Corsa, EA Sports WRC, The Crew Motorfest, and Wreckfest. That does not mean every listed game supports every G29, G920, or G923 variant on every platform. Verify the individual game/platform entry in Logitech’s compatibility table.

Configure the wheel inside the game

  1. Open the game’s controller, wheel, or input settings.
  2. Select the Logitech wheel preset if one is available.
  3. Bind steering manually if the preset does not work.
  4. Bind throttle, brake, clutch, paddles, buttons, and shifter positions.
  5. Check whether the throttle or brake axes are inverted.
  6. Enable force feedback and confirm its strength is not set to zero.
  7. Start with moderate steering-range and force-feedback values while testing.
  8. Disconnect other controllers temporarily if the game assigns input to the wrong device.

Some titles require manual pedal assignment even when the operating system sees the pedals. Logitech specifically notes that pedal functions must be mapped in the game and that some games invert pedal controls.

Steam Input: do not treat it as a universal requirement

Older troubleshooting articles often say the wheel must be detected by Steam or instruct every reader to disable Steam Input. Logitech’s updated troubleshooting material says its old Steam-detection step is no longer applicable because Steam does not detect wheels in the way that workflow expected.

A per-game Steam Input setting can still be a practical workaround for an individual title, but treat it as a game-specific experiment, not a required diagnostic step. The exact Steam interface can change, and many wheel-supported games handle wheel input outside Steam Input.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

7. Xbox troubleshooting

G920 or Xbox G923 on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S

  1. Confirm the wheel is a G920 or the Xbox/PC version of the G923.
  2. Connect the supplied power adapter directly to a wall outlet.
  3. Connect the pedals to the wheel base.
  4. Connect USB directly to the Xbox console.
  5. Wait for calibration.
  6. Test the D-pad on the Xbox home screen.
  7. Check the game and console for updates.
  8. Try another supported racing game.

If the D-pad does not work on the Xbox home screen, the issue is below the game level. If it works on the home screen but not in one game, check that game’s wheel support and control bindings.

Official G920 initialization procedure for Xbox One

For a G920 that does not respond when first connected to an Xbox One, Logitech provides this specific reset sequence:

  1. Disconnect the G920 USB cable from the Xbox One.
  2. Hold LSB + View + Xbox simultaneously.
  3. While holding those buttons, reconnect the USB cable.
  4. Release the buttons when the wheel begins its calibration movement.
  5. Test the D-pad on the Xbox home screen.

This is Logitech’s procedure for the G920 on Xbox One. Do not treat it as a universal reset for the G29, every G923 model, Xbox Series X|S, or every symptom. A G29 cannot be made Xbox-compatible with this sequence.

8. PlayStation 5 troubleshooting

G29 on PS5

  1. Confirm the wheel is a G29.
  2. Set its platform switch to PS4, not PS3.
  3. Connect it directly to a PS5 USB port.
  4. Start a game that explicitly supports the G29.
  5. Check the game’s wheel settings and bind the controls if necessary.
  6. Try another supported PS5 title.

If the G29 has intermittent PS5 authentication or input problems, connect it to a Windows PC and check G HUB for firmware updates. Logitech’s February 3, 2026 G HUB release notes list G29 firmware 164.1.11 and describe an improvement to PS5-mode authentication stability. That dated release-note entry is not a guarantee that every PS5 problem is firmware-related, but it makes a PC-based firmware check worthwhile. See the G HUB release notes.

PlayStation version of the G923 on PS5

Check the label, packaging, model information, or button layout to confirm that the wheel is the PS5/PlayStation/PC version. The Xbox/PC G923 is not natively compatible with PS5. Connect the correct version directly, wait for calibration, and verify support for the game you are launching.

9. Fix pedals, shifter, steering, and force feedback separately

Pedals do not work

The G29, G920, and G923 pedals connect to the wheel base through the pedal connector; they are not normally separate USB devices. Try these steps:

  1. Disconnect USB and power.
  2. Firmly reseat the pedal connector in the underside of the wheel base.
  3. Reconnect power and USB.
  4. Check each pedal in G HUB.
  5. Check each pedal in joy.cpl.
  6. Map throttle, brake, and clutch inside the game.
  7. Check for inverted pedal axes.
  8. Press each pedal through its complete travel and look for smooth, consistent response.

If a pedal jumps, registers while untouched, or never reaches its full range in G HUB, joy.cpl, and multiple games, physical sensor wear is possible. A software deadzone may hide a symptom or change the usable range, but it does not repair a worn sensor. Follow Logitech’s pedal troubleshooting instructions before assuming the pedal set needs replacement.

Shifter does not work

The standard Logitech Driving Force Shifter connects to the wheel base rather than appearing as a separate USB device on PC. Check the shifter cable and connector, then confirm that the game supports an H-pattern shifter and that the correct gears and clutch are assigned.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Reseat the shifter cable at the wheel base.
  • Enable H-pattern or manual-shift mode in the game.
  • Assign each gear in the game’s input screen.
  • Check whether clutch input is required before a gear will engage.
  • Test another supported game.

The G29, G920, and G923 have a single shifter port. Logitech also notes that newer RS shifter hardware may be connected directly by USB on PC for full functionality rather than through a racing adapter. See Logitech’s information on RS shifter identification and RS H-Shifter compatibility.

Steering works but force feedback does not

Steering input and force feedback are separate functions. If the wheel turns and buttons work but there is no resistance or road feedback:

  1. Confirm the external power adapter is connected and the wheel completes its calibration.
  2. On PC, install or update G HUB.
  3. Check that the game supports the wheel and has force feedback enabled.
  4. Confirm the force-feedback strength is not zero and that the wheel is correctly mapped.
  5. Test another supported game.
  6. On console, update the console and game.

Logitech specifically states that the G923 requires G HUB on PC for force feedback and that the wheel’s steering and force-feedback functions must be correctly mapped in the game. If force feedback fails in only one title, treat that as a game support or configuration problem first.

Buttons work, but steering or pedals do not

Button input alone proves only that some USB controls are being received. Test the steering and pedal axes separately in G HUB and joy.cpl. If buttons work but the axes are absent or frozen in both tests, investigate the pedal connector, calibration data, Windows registration, and hardware rather than the game’s button bindings.

10. When the wheel is probably defective

Stop repeating software fixes when the wheel meets several of these conditions:

  • It never performs startup calibration with a known-good wall outlet and the supplied adapter.
  • It remains absent from Windows after testing multiple direct USB ports.
  • It is absent on another compatible PC or console.
  • The power cable, USB cable, or connector is visibly damaged.
  • You notice a burning smell, unusual electrical noise, or sudden shutdowns.
  • A pedal fails consistently in G HUB, joy.cpl, and multiple games.
  • Calibration fails in the same way after the official G HUB, Windows, and advanced registration steps.

These results do not identify a particular internal component. They indicate that continued game-setting changes are unlikely to help and that Logitech support or warranty service is the appropriate next step. Do not open the wheel base while it may still be under warranty. Logitech’s US product listing gives the G29/G920 product family a two-year limited hardware warranty; warranty terms can vary by region, purchase date, and product, so check the terms for your location on the official product page.

Quick diagnosis by result

  1. No calibration: troubleshoot wall power, the supplied adapter, cable connections, direct USB, and platform compatibility.
  2. Calibration but no Windows detection: use G HUB, joy.cpl, Device Manager, another USB port, and another PC.
  3. Windows detection but no game input: check the exact game/platform compatibility and manually assign controls.
  4. Working controls but no force feedback: check external power, G HUB, game FFB support, and another title.
  5. Only PS5 fails: confirm G29 or PlayStation G923, use PS4 mode on the G29, connect directly, and check G HUB firmware from a PC.
  6. Only Xbox fails: confirm G920 or Xbox G923, test the Xbox home screen, and use the official G920 Xbox One initialization sequence when applicable.
  7. Failure everywhere: test another compatible system and then consider adapter, cable, hardware, or warranty service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my G29 work on PC but not Xbox?

The G29 is a PlayStation/PC wheel and has no native Xbox support. No G HUB setting, firmware update, or Xbox reset sequence makes it natively compatible with Xbox.

Can I use a G920 on PS5?

No, not natively. The G920 is designed for Xbox and PC. PS5 requires a G29 or the PlayStation version of the G923, along with a game that supports that wheel.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the Xbox G923 compatible with PS5?

No. The G923 has separate Xbox/PC and PlayStation/PC versions. Confirm the exact variant before troubleshooting software.

Why does my wheel calibrate but not appear in G HUB?

Try a different direct USB port, restart Windows, confirm that the current G HUB installation is working, and check Device Manager and joy.cpl. If Windows sees the wheel but G HUB does not, the problem is more likely G HUB installation, its service, cache, or a software conflict.

Why do my Logitech wheel pedals not work?

Disconnect power and USB, reseat the pedal connector in the wheel base, then test each pedal in G HUB and joy.cpl. If they work there, assign the pedals in the game and check whether the axes are inverted.

Why is there no force feedback even though steering works?

Confirm that the external power adapter is connected and that calibration completes. Then check G HUB, the game’s force-feedback option and strength, correct wheel mapping, and another supported game. Force feedback can fail independently of steering input.

Do I need Logitech Gaming Software or G HUB?

Use current Logitech G HUB on Windows, particularly for the G923. Some older G29/G920 documentation mentions Logitech Gaming Software 8.70 or later, but that is legacy guidance rather than the normal current solution.

Should I disable Steam Input?

Not as a universal requirement. Logitech’s updated troubleshooting material says its old Steam-detection step is no longer applicable. A per-game Steam Input change can still be tested as a workaround when a specific title has an input conflict.

What does a slowly blinking G923 light mean?

Logitech generally associates a slowly blinking G923 LED with the wheel not receiving motor power. Check the supplied power adapter, wall outlet, wheel-side power connector, and USB connection, but do not diagnose the wheel from the LED alone.

How do I reset a G920 on Xbox One?

Disconnect the G920 USB cable, hold LSB + View + Xbox, reconnect the USB cable while holding the buttons, and release them when calibration begins. This is Logitech’s Xbox One procedure for the G920, not a universal reset for every model or Xbox generation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I do if my G29 works on PC but not PS5?

Set the G29 switch to PS4, connect it directly to the PS5, and use a supported game. If the problem persists, connect the wheel to a Windows PC and check G HUB for firmware updates. Logitech’s February 3, 2026 release notes mention improved PS5-mode authentication stability for G29 firmware 164.1.11.

When should I claim warranty service?

Consider support or warranty service when the wheel will not calibrate or appear in Windows after known-good power, multiple direct USB ports, and another compatible system have been tested. Do not open the wheel base while it may still be under warranty.

The Bottom Line

Start with the model and platform: G29 for PlayStation/PC, G920 for Xbox/PC, and the correct G923 variant for the console you own. Then verify direct power, pedal and USB connections, and full calibration. On PC, G HUB and joy.cpl tell you whether the problem is hardware, Windows, or the game. Only after those tests pass should you change in-game bindings or investigate Steam. A wheel that remains undetected and fails to calibrate on another compatible system is a hardware or power case, not a game-settings problem.
