Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →“Lag” in Lords of the Fallen can mean three different problems: network delay, PC frame-time stutter, or co-op desynchronization. Delayed attacks, teleporting and players freezing usually indicate a connection or synchronization problem; choppy movement in single-player points to PC performance. Diagnose the symptom first, then use the fixes below.
There is no single universal fix, but the most reliable sequence is to update both players, reverse the host, reset the game’s graphics profile and pipeline cache, verify the installation, and then test the network separately from FPS performance.

Identify the type of lag first
| What you see | Likely cause | First test |
|---|---|---|
| Delayed attacks, teleporting, rubber-banding or a frozen partner | Network latency, packet loss or desynchronization | Reverse the host and test a private session |
| Low FPS or choppy movement in single-player and co-op | GPU, CPU, VRAM, driver or frame-time limits | Use AUTO-SET and monitor FPS |
| Hitches while entering new areas | Shader compilation, asset streaming or storage performance | Rebuild the pipeline cache and use an SSD |
| Only Shared Progression stutters or loses state | Co-op synchronization or save-related behavior | Test ordinary co-op |
| Loading hangs, then disconnects | Firewall, NAT, Wi-Fi, matchmaking or a game-side issue | Try a private session and another host |
| The problem began immediately after an update | Possible patch regression | Check current official announcements |
Lowering graphics settings cannot fix high network latency, and a faster internet connection cannot fix a GPU that is dropping frames. Check whether the same problem occurs in single-player: if it does, begin with PC performance rather than multiplayer networking.
Apply these fixes in order
- Update the game for both players. Restart Steam or the relevant launcher after updating, then restart the game and both PCs. Compare the installed build numbers before testing.
- Run a controlled host test. Player A should host a private session at a Vestige through the Multiplayer menu. Test for five to ten minutes, end the session, then repeat with Player B hosting. Use the same password and progression mode in both tests.
- Use AUTO-SET. Open Settings → Graphic → AUTO-SET, restart the game and retest. CI Games recommends this profile as a way to apply settings suited to the PC configuration (developer troubleshooting guidance).
- Update the graphics driver. Download the current driver directly from NVIDIA or AMD. The older CI Games troubleshooting post recommends driver updates, but its links do not establish a particular driver version as current.
- Delete the pipeline cache. Close the game. In File Explorer, open
C:Users<your-user-name>AppDataLocalLOTF2Savedand delete only files matching*.UPIPELINECACHE. Do not delete the entireSavedfolder. The game should rebuild the cache on its next launch. - Verify the Steam installation. Open Steam → Library, right-click Lords of the Fallen, choose Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. The exact wording can vary by Steam client language.
- Retest before reinstalling. Reinstalling may not remove local configuration or solve a router, driver, cache or game-side problem, so it should not be the first response.
Fix PC performance stutter
The published PC requirements target 720p Low at 30 FPS on minimum hardware and 1080p High at 60 FPS on recommended hardware. Minimum-spec hardware is therefore not expected to deliver stable 60-FPS co-op. The listed minimum is Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600, 12 GB RAM, 6 GB VRAM and a GTX 1060 or RX 590. Recommended hardware includes an i7-8700 or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB RAM, 8 GB VRAM and an RTX 2080 or RX 6700. The game uses DirectX 12; an SSD is preferred at minimum and required for the recommended configuration. See the official Steam requirements.
#1 Best Overall
- Overhauled Character Creator – Create more lifelike characters with improved facial detail, body shapes, and visual fidelity
- Shared-Progression Cross-Play Cooperative Play – Both players now save all main story progress as long as they’re on the same “New Game” and have defeated a similar number of main bosses within one. Both players retains all loot, 100 percent vigor, and can revive each other in all online sessions.
- Free Friend’s Pass – Invite any friend to join your adventure in online co-op even if they don’t own the game. Friends keep loot and character progress, plus get full offline access to the tutorial and character creator
- Revamped Combat and Movement – V2.0 adds smoother animations, better weapon response, refined lock-on, improved evasions, and new grievous strike prompts
- Start with AUTO-SET, then lower resolution, shadows, effects, view distance and other GPU-heavy settings if frame times remain unstable.
- Cap FPS at a value the PC can hold consistently instead of chasing an unstable maximum.
- Close browsers, recording software, launchers, overlays and hardware-monitoring tools temporarily.
- Test borderless windowed mode if exclusive fullscreen produces unusual hitching.
- Move the installation to an SSD if traversal stutter or asset-streaming hitches are strongest on a slow HDD.
- Compare co-op with single-player. If both modes stutter, the connection is unlikely to be the primary cause.
Fix actual network lag
For delayed inputs, teleporting, rubber-banding or a partner who appears to freeze, test the connection independently of graphics settings:
- Prefer Ethernet over Wi-Fi. If Wi-Fi is unavoidable, move closer to the router and avoid congested wireless conditions.
- Stop downloads, cloud synchronization, streaming and VPN traffic on both PCs.
- Restart the router and both PCs.
- Allow the game through Windows Firewall. Do not permanently disable the firewall.
- Check whether either player is behind strict NAT, double NAT or carrier-grade NAT. Temporarily testing UPnP can help diagnose router discovery problems, but avoid unnecessary permanent security changes.
- Try another multiplayer game. If several games fail, investigate the wider network; if only Lords of the Fallen fails, continue with the host and patch tests.
- Test the same-platform session and then cross-platform play separately. The PC version supports online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer, but a platform-specific failure can be hidden when the tests are mixed.
Do not open arbitrary firewall ports or rely on port-forwarding instructions without an official port list. Community reports mention NAT, firewall settings, loading hangs and disconnects, but they do not prove a universal port configuration (community reports).
Use the host-reversal test to find the culprit
- Only one host causes the problem: investigate that player’s Wi-Fi or NAT, firewall, background traffic and PC performance.
- Both hosts cause the same problem: suspect a shared game-version issue, cross-platform compatibility problem, regional matchmaking issue or game-side regression.
- Only the guest sees the problem: test the guest’s FPS, GPU driver, storage and connection independently.
- The problem appears only in Shared Progression: compare it with ordinary co-op before changing save files.
Shared Progression and desynchronization
Lords of the Fallen offers ordinary online co-op as well as full Shared Progression sessions, and they should not be assumed to behave identically. Desynchronization may appear as different enemy or world states, missing progress or items, a player being returned to a Vestige, or one player being removed from the session.
Shared-progression stability and lag have received specific official fixes, including improvements documented in Version 2.0.101. Official announcements also document later work on matchmaking, session stability, performance and co-op behavior, including the April 2026 co-op update and Version 2.5.364 hotfix. Check the current official announcements for the build available to you; the existence of Version 2.5.364 on April 20, 2026 does not prove it is still the newest build.

Do not make the Saved folder read-only as a normal fix. A community workaround claims it can reduce some Shared Progression stutter, but it also prevents automatic saving and can cost progress after a crash or exit (community workaround and risks).
When the problem is probably a patch regression
A local fix is less likely when:
- both players reproduce the same behavior regardless of host;
- single-player performance is normal but every multiplayer session fails;
- other multiplayer games work normally;
- the issue began immediately after a game update;
- multiple players report the same new symptom.
Search the latest official notes for co-op, multiplayer, stability, stutter, desync, shared progression, matchmaking and disconnect. If the evidence points to a regression, report it rather than downgrading the game or using unofficial executables.
