If Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord keeps crashing on Xbox Series X or Series S, first make sure both Bannerlord and War Sails have finished updating, if you have the expansion installed. TaleWorlds warns that launching before both updates are complete can cause a crash. Then restart the console using the Power Center. These steps address documented update and console issues; they cannot diagnose every crash.
1. Finish updating Bannerlord and War Sails
Before launching, check that Bannerlord is fully updated and, if installed, War Sails is fully updated too. TaleWorlds says there can be a delay between the base-game update and the War Sails update, and warns: “If you launch the game prior to both of them being updated, you will crash.” Its patch notes also say console updates can take a few hours to appear through platform release processes. If one update is still pending, wait for it to finish before starting the game.

2. Restart your Xbox Series X|S
PLAION recommends restarting the console to clear its cache when addressing performance issues or errors. On Series X|S:

- Press and hold the Xbox button on your controller to open the Power Center.
- Select Restart Console.
If the console is frozen or you cannot open the Power Center, hold the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it turns off. Then turn it on again. PLAION notes that these instructions are for Series X|S; steps can differ on other Xbox models.

3. Check whether the crash matches a documented fix
TaleWorlds’ 8 July 2026 patch notes identify two Xbox-specific crash-related fixes:

- Bannerlord v1.4.7: a visual glitch that could induce a crash during longer Xbox sessions was fixed.
These notes describe particular issues, not a fix for every possible crash. If your game is already on the relevant updates and still crashes, continue to support rather than assuming your symptom has the same cause. The notes list other crash fixes too, but do not identify all of those as Xbox fixes.

If updating and restarting do not resolve the problem, use the Bannerlord Helpcenter. PLAION directs players to contact support when its help entries do not answer the issue; the support center provides a create-ticket route. When submitting a ticket, describe whether the crash occurs on launch, after an update, or during a longer session, and include your console model and game/expansion update status.

Uninstalling is a later, potentially destructive step—not a routine first fix. PLAION warns that uninstalling removes game data and saves from the console. Before considering it, verify your save-data and account/cloud-sync status using official Xbox guidance; PLAION’s uninstall article does not explain cloud-save recovery or synchronization.

Do not delete a save as a general crash remedy. PLAION states that Xbox save deletion is permanent and cannot be undone, and its support material does not establish that a corrupted save is the cause of any individual crash.
