Check whether your PC meets the requirements
The Steam listing examined for this guide gives these Windows minimums:
- 64-bit operating system
- Windows 10 64-bit
- AMD 2.4 GHz dual-core or Intel i3 2.4 GHz dual-core processor
- 3 GB RAM
- AMD Radeon HD 5770, Intel HD Graphics 520, or NVIDIA GeForce GT 630-class graphics
- DirectX 11
- 5 GB available storage
The listed recommended graphics hardware includes the AMD Radeon HD 6950, Intel Arc A310, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470. The recommended requirements also mention DirectX 12 and broadband internet. That does not mean DirectX 12 is universally required: the published minimum is DirectX 11.
Minimum specifications are a floor. A system can technically qualify and still crash because of an old laptop driver, hybrid graphics assignment, limited shared memory, low free disk space, damaged shader or game data, or a new driver regression. Keep more than the bare 5 GB free so updates, temporary files, and shader compilation have room to complete.

On a laptop with integrated and dedicated graphics, Windows may assign the game to the lower-power GPU. Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add The Bazaar executable if it is not listed, open its options, and select the high-performance GPU. Vendor control panels from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel may provide an equivalent per-application setting; the exact labels vary by driver version.
Fix 1: Restart the game, launcher, and PC completely
- Close The Bazaar normally if the window still responds.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- End any remaining The Bazaar, Tempo, or launcher process.
- If you use Steam, exit Steam completely—not only the game window.
- Wait several seconds, then reopen Steam or the standalone Tempo launcher.
- If the launcher says the game is still running, an update is stuck, or the version is wrong, restart Windows.
Community reports describe restarting the computer as a workaround for some update and version-mismatch states. That is anecdotal, not a universal or official fix, but it is safe and worth trying before deleting files. Make sure the launcher has finished downloading before pressing Play again.
Fix 2: Update Windows, graphics drivers, and the launcher
Install pending updates for:
- Windows
- Your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel graphics driver
- The Steam client, if you use Steam
- The standalone Tempo launcher, if you use it
- The Bazaar itself
Graphics-driver updates often address rendering and initialization crashes, but a brand-new driver can also introduce a regression. If the crash began immediately after a driver update, testing the previous known-stable driver may be reasonable. Use the GPU manufacturer’s official driver tools or website, not a paid third-party driver-updater utility.
Do not troubleshoot the Steam installation while launching a separate standalone copy, or vice versa. Check the shortcut and launcher you are actually using. An old desktop shortcut can point to an outdated executable or a retired installation.

Fix 3: Verify The Bazaar’s files on Steam
Steam’s file verification is the least-destructive repair for an incomplete or corrupted Steam installation:
- Open Steam.
- Open Library.
- Right-click The Bazaar and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish, restart Steam, and launch the game.
Steam’s client wording can change. If the labels differ, use the installed-files or local-file verification option in the game’s Properties window. Fix 4: Disable overlays, capture tools, and injectors
Temporarily disable every nonessential program that hooks into the game or its rendering path:
- Steam Overlay
- Discord Overlay
- NVIDIA App or GeForce overlay
- AMD Adrenalin overlay
- Xbox Game Bar
- MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner Statistics Server
- OBS game capture
- ReShade and other injectors
- Third-party FPS counters and monitoring tools
- Antivirus game modes or application-control features
These tools are useful for chat, screenshots, recording, and performance data, but they can conflict with a game’s renderer or anti-cheat and launcher behavior. Close them, launch with only Steam or the Tempo launcher and essential Windows services running, and test the exact action that normally crashes.
If stability returns, re-enable one tool at a time. That identifies the conflicting component instead of leaving every overlay disabled permanently.
Fix 5: Reset graphics settings and remove overclocking
If the game reaches the menu, make the graphics test deliberately conservative:
- Restore graphics settings to their defaults.
- Use windowed or borderless mode temporarily.
- Lower the resolution and visual effects.
- Disable optional effects such as motion blur or screen shake if a visual transition triggers the crash.
- Apply a frame-rate cap if the crash occurs during high-load transitions.
- Return the GPU and CPU to stock clocks.
This separates several possibilities that are often incorrectly lumped together. A crash before the GPU initializes is different from a crash caused by an unstable overclock, and both differ from a game bug triggered by a particular effect, board, or screen. A long stutter that eventually recovers is performance trouble, not necessarily a crash.

Fix 6: Clear the launcher cache carefully
Players have reported clearing caches and restarting as a workaround for some update and version-state problems. Because the available research does not confirm a current first-party Windows cache path, do not delete an arbitrary folder under AppData and do not erase the entire LocalLow directory.
Use this safer process:
- Close the game and launcher completely.
- Preserve the log files first; the paths are listed below.
- Clear only a cache folder explicitly named by the current launcher or official support instructions.
- Restart Windows.
- Reopen the correct launcher and allow it to rebuild or redownload required files.
Cache deletion may require a download and can reset local preferences. It is not the same as deleting account progress, but deleting unrelated configuration or account data can complicate diagnosis. Never use a “cache cleaner” utility for this problem.
Fix 7: Investigate post-update and version-mismatch crashes
If the crash began after a patch, or the game says it is out of date or cannot connect, work through this branch:
- Exit and restart Steam or the Tempo launcher.
- Restart the PC if the launcher still reports an old running process.
- Check that no download is paused, queued, or waiting for a client restart.
- Confirm that the launcher and game use the same installation.
- Verify Steam files if you use the Steam build.
- Do not launch an old desktop shortcut pointing to another executable.
- Check official patch notes and support communications before repeatedly reinstalling.
Community reports associate restarts, cache clearing, and support tickets with some version-mismatch and post-patch problems, but these are anecdotal workarounds. If many players began crashing immediately after the same update, the underlying defect may be in the build and no local repair will permanently solve it. Submit reproducible logs and wait for a hotfix rather than repeatedly wiping the installation.
Fix 8: Check security software without weakening Windows permanently
Antivirus or controlled-folder protection can sometimes block a launcher from updating or writing required files. If the installation came from Steam or the official game site and you trust it, test with a narrowly scoped, temporary exception or by checking the security product’s quarantine and blocked-app history.
Do not disable antivirus permanently, add broad exclusions for an entire drive, or download replacement DLL files. Remove any temporary exception after testing.

Find The Bazaar’s logs and contact support
Before clearing local data or reinstalling, copy the logs somewhere safe. Current community issue documentation identifies this Windows directory:

If the application remains open and returns you to a menu, disconnects, or fails matchmaking, investigate session and service conditions rather than assuming the GPU is at fault. Do not claim that the game is down without checking current official communications or service information.

Reinstalling is a last resort, not a guaranteed fix. First restart processes, update software, verify files, disable overlays, reset graphics settings, and preserve logs. Reinstall only after confirming which installation you are repairing—Steam or standalone—and after copying useful diagnostics.
If you switch distribution channels, remember that buying or installing the Steam version is not a general crash remedy. It may be useful if you specifically want Steam’s file-verification workflow or your standalone launcher is damaged, but it will not fix a graphics-driver regression, overlay conflict, unstable overclock, or patch defect. The Steam listing also notes in-app purchases and a required Tempo Games third-party account, so check the current account and purchase details before changing platforms. Avoid these bad fixes
- Do not download DLLs from unofficial websites.
- Do not use registry cleaners or paid driver-updater utilities.
- Do not install unofficial launchers, repacks, or pirated builds.

- Do not use a paid VPN as a generic desktop-crash fix.
- Do not delete the entire
AppDataorLocalLowdirectory. - Do not permanently disable antivirus or security protections.
These actions can introduce malware, remove evidence, damage unrelated applications, or confuse an account and installation problem with a hardware problem.
