If a video in OBS reaches its end, enable Loop in that Media Source’s properties to make it play again. But the clip ending does not, by itself, prove that your YouTube livestream ended: check whether OBS is still sending output and review stream health in YouTube Live Control Room before treating the source as the cause.
Make an OBS media file repeat
- In OBS, find the affected Media Source in the Sources list and open its properties.
- Turn on Loop, then apply the change. OBS documents this option as restarting the file after playback completes; it is off by default in the documented settings. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Preview the scene and let the file reach its end. Confirm that it starts playing again as intended.
Loop is appropriate for a video meant to repeat continuously. For an intro or other one-time clip, do not loop it automatically: decide what should be visible after it finishes, such as a separate scene or another source.
Understand the other end-of-playback settings
Two nearby Media Source options affect visibility or file loading, not repeat playback:
- Show nothing when playback ends hides the source after the file completes. It does not restart the file.
- Close file when inactive unloads the file when the source is hidden or outside the current scene. OBS notes that reopening it can introduce a delay.
Use Loop when the goal is repeat playback; use the other settings only when their hiding or unloading behavior is wanted.

Check whether YouTube actually ended the livestream
YouTube’s encoder guidance describes ending a stream in terms of stopping content from the encoder. A media file reaching its end and the encoder stopping are therefore different events. Check the evidence before changing settings or replacing a stream key.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and inspect stream health and any reported errors. YouTube’s live-stream metrics guidance explains the available monitoring.
- Compare the time of the interruption with the OBS log and check whether OBS continued sending output. If output continued, investigate the scene and source behavior; if output stopped, investigate OBS or its connection to YouTube as a separate issue.
- For encoder startup errors, consult YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide. Check the stream-key configuration if the error points to a key problem; do not replace the key without evidence that it is the issue.

Test the scene transition before going live
For a one-time clip, test what happens when playback completes and confirm that the intended outgoing scene remains active. For a repeating file, watch it pass the end and restart in the OBS preview. Then preview the encoder feed in YouTube and check its health indicators. This is a practical check, not a guarantee that every setup will remain uninterrupted.
