Flappy Bird has a revival, but it is not a return by original creator Dong Nguyen. The Flappy Bird Foundation now promotes the game under the Flappy Bird name; Nguyen has publicly said he has no connection to it, did not sell anything, and does not support crypto. The Foundation’s current channel points Android players to the Epic Games Store and promotes an early Telegram version, but it does not confirm current iOS or browser availability across regions.
What is Flappy Bird?
The original Flappy Bird was a 2013 one-button endless runner: players tapped to keep a bird aloft and steer it through gaps between pipes. Temple Now reported that the game reached 90 million downloads at its peak. Temple Now’s account describes the game’s simple controls and sudden popularity.
Why did the original Flappy Bird disappear?
Temple Now dates the removal from app stores to February 10, 2014. Its account links the decision to the attention surrounding the game and Nguyen’s concerns about its addictive nature, rather than establishing one definitive reason. Thomas Sharpe, a video-game developer and Temple University adjunct assistant professor, told Temple Now that Nguyen felt pressure from parents concerned about children’s productivity and felt guilty about the game’s effects.
What is the Flappy Bird comeback?
The Flappy Bird Foundation is presenting a revival under the Flappy Bird name. It says the trademark passed from Mobile Media Partners to Gametech Holdings and then to the Foundation in August 2024. The Foundation’s site describes its claim to the mark; Ars Technica reported on the legal contest that preceded the transfer. A trademark transfer should not be treated as proof that all copyrights to Nguyen’s original game were simply purchased or transferred.

Nguyen publicly disclaimed involvement after the revival was announced in September 2024. GameSpot reported his statement: “No, I have no related with their game. I did not sell anything. I also don’t support crypto.” That distinction matters: the comeback is real, but it is not Nguyen returning to develop or endorse his original game.
