Players who bought For Honor after the trial could carry their save data over to the full game, according to the report. That meant progress made during the event was intended to continue after purchase.

How the trial related to Season 3
Ubisoft’s Season 3, Grudge & Glory, was scheduled to begin August 15, two days after the free trial ended. The update was set to add content and maps, including two new heroes: Highlander and Gladiator. The trial therefore offered prospective players access to the game before that seasonal update, rather than being a free-play period created by the update itself.
A separate free weekend followed in November
Ubisoft later ran another For Honor free weekend, November 9–12, 2017, ahead of Season 4, Order & Havoc, scheduled for November 14. GameSpot’s separate report described campaign access, five multiplayer modes, and the full roster through Season Three, with save transfer after purchase. It also reported a sale of up to 60%. That November event was distinct from the August trial: Season 4 was to add maps, the Aramusha and Shaman heroes, and the Tribute mode. The November sale and dates should not be confused with the August promotion.
