In The Outer Worlds 2, “For Whom the Bridge Tolls” is a Paradise Island side quest that begins with Senior Warden Weintraut at the Bridge of the Reverent. To earn passage, bring her proof concerning Ida Rutledge and persuade Charlton Weintraut to come to the bridge. The steps and rewards below are reported by a walkthrough updated July 19, 2026; they have not been independently confirmed against other quest guides.
How to start For Whom the Bridge Tolls
Find Senior Warden Weintraut guarding the Bridge of the Reverent, which connects the southern and northern parts of Paradise Island. She asks you to bring in two alleged faction traitors: Ida Rutledge and her cousin Charlton Weintraut. The quest walkthrough identifies this as a side quest in The Outer Worlds 2, not a reference to Ernest Hemingway’s novel. Quest walkthrough

Where to find Ida Rutledge
Travel to Sovereign’s Sweet Spire Grove. According to the walkthrough, Ida is already dead, so you cannot bring her back to Weintraut. Her severed arm is the available proof to take instead.
Reach the proof
At the Grove, the walkthrough describes a broken elevator that can be repaired with Engineer 3. If you do not have that skill, it also describes a climbing route to reach the area. Either way, retrieve Ida’s arm and return it to Weintraut as evidence.

Where to find Charlton Weintraut
Charlton is in Westport, unless you have completed “The Brain Benders of Auntie’s Choice!” In that case, the walkthrough places him in Fairfield. Investigate his house to advance this part of the quest.
How to convince Charlton
The walkthrough reports that Speech 3 is needed to persuade Charlton to come to the bridge. Once he agrees, return to Weintraut with him.
