Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3, “Wrecked,” launched on May 24, 2024 with a new southern Wasteland biome, Nitro-powered movement and vehicles, vehicle mods, boss fights, and the explosive Boom Bolt. The details below summarize Epic’s official season overview at launch; they are not a complete record of every later hotfix or balance change. The season’s Battle Pass ended August 15, 2024, at 11 PM ET, so it is no longer available.
What changed on the island?
A sandstorm reshaped the south of the island into the Wasteland, a biome built around vehicle combat and the Wasteland Warriors.
- Redline Rig: A Nitro refinery run by The Machinist.
- Nitrodrome: Ringmaster Scarr’s vehicle spectacle.
- Brutal Beachhead: The Wasteland Warriors’ base, associated with Megalo Don.
- Sandy Steppes: The former Snooty Steppes, renamed.
How did Nitro work?
Nitro Splash and Nitro Barrels supplied Nitro to players or vehicles. Its effects differed depending on what was infused:
- Nitro-fied cars: Drove faster, used less fuel, gained more power from attached attack mods, and could ram explosively when moving fast enough.
- Nitro-fied players: Moved faster, used less stamina, reloaded faster, and were immune to fall damage. At sufficient speed, they could also bash explosively.
What could Nitro Fists do?
Nitro Fists added close-range attacks and an aerial option. The three-punch combo did not consume a charge; an uppercut or an aerial punch—which dashed through the air—used one charge each. The item held four charges, and one charge recharged every eight seconds, according to Epic’s launch overview.

Which vehicle mods and support features arrived?
Vehicle Mod Boxes were the attachment mechanic: hit one with a car to equip its mod. Epic put the options into three slots, and a mod could replace another already occupying the same slot.

Cow Catcher and Chonkers were unvaulted. Other vehicle support included Repair Boxes, the unvaulted Repair Torch—which could also fix a popped tire or broken window—and Service Stations that refilled gas and vehicle health while a vehicle was parked on their pads.
The War Bus carried two cannons and an EMP-pulse horn. The horn damaged nearby enemy shields and temporarily disabled vehicles around it.
What new and returning weapons were listed?
The Boom Bolt was the new weapon: a fast-firing, moddable crossbow that shot explosive bolts. Epic’s launch overview also listed these available or returning weapons and items:

Launch balance changes called out by Epic
- Tactical Assault Rifle: Increased long-distance damage and reduced recoil and bullet spread.
- Enforcer AR: Increased damage, fire rate, and critical hit multiplier.
- Hand Cannon: Increased long-distance damage and projectile speed.
These are the changes in Epic’s season-launch post, not a full account of balance adjustments made later in the season.

Medallion carriers appeared on opponents’ maps. Epic said that carrying more medallions made the location radius more precise.
What was in the Wrecked Battle Pass?
Epic listed The Machinist, Rust, Peabody, Ringmaster Scarr, T-60 Power Armor, Brite Raider, and Megalo Don as Battle Pass outfits. Wastelander Magneto was due to unlock through Battle Pass quests in July.
At launch, the pass cost 950 V-Bucks and offered up to 1,500 V-Bucks back through leveling. These were historical 2024 terms, not a current offer; Epic updated the pass end date to August 15, 2024, at 11 PM ET.

Epic said the Battle Royale mobile HUD was simplified and its icons repositioned. Players using custom HUDs were not affected and could continue using their custom layouts.
Epic’s launch post listed drivable vehicles, War Buses, turrets, Cow Catchers, tires, Repair Torches, Service Stations, Shockwave Grenades, and Vehicle Mod Boxes among features absent from tournaments. That launch list does not establish the rules for every event or any later rule changes; check the rules for the specific tournament.
