That makes “Epic isn’t doing enough” a defensible criticism of the lack of measurable results—not a conclusion proven by published cheating or detection statistics.
What Epic says it does to stop Fortnite cheating
Epic describes anti-cheat as several layers rather than one tool. In a February 2026 competitive notice, the company said it fixes game-breaking exploits, makes game systems harder to reverse-engineer, uses Easy Anti-Cheat’s kernel-level protection while Fortnite runs, analyzes suspicious behavior with data and machine learning, develops detections, and uses player reports to identify and act on cheaters. Epic’s February 2025 update also described statistical analysis and machine-learning algorithms, and said bans rely on technical evidence rather than suspicion.

Those are descriptions from Epic, not independently audited findings. The published material reviewed here does not include current detection rates, false-positive rates, or an independent evaluation of how well these measures work. Epic’s account of its approach is available in its February 2026 competitive notice and February 2025 anti-cheat update.
Why no single measure can settle the question
Exploit fixes and code hardening aim to prevent or complicate cheating; anti-cheat software and behavioral analysis are meant to identify suspicious activity; reports give players a way to flag possible misconduct. Sanctions and lawsuits address consequences after suspected or established violations. These measures show ongoing enforcement activity, but their existence alone does not tell players how often cheating occurs or how much it has been curtailed.

What changes for PC players in tournaments
Since February 19, 2026, Epic has required PC players entering any Fortnite tournament to have Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU enabled. Epic says IOMMU lets the operating system control how hardware devices access system memory, helping protect game memory from cheat hardware.
Epic estimates that about 95% of Fortnite PC players on Windows 11-compatible PCs likely already meet the requirements or can enable them without new hardware. That is Epic’s estimate, not the result of an independent hardware survey. The requirement is specific to tournament PC play; the notice does not establish that it applies to ordinary matchmaking. How Epic’s cheating penalties work
Under the policy Epic announced in February 2025, effective April 2025, a first cheating offense carries a one-year matchmaking ban; a second offense brings a lifetime ban. During the first ban, the player can still log in and use text and voice chat, but cannot matchmake into Epic- or creator-made experiences or spectate. Epic also said tournament participants caught cheating face an immediate lifetime tournament ban and may lose previous tournament winnings. The current rules are summarized on Epic’s support page about cheating-offense changes.
Appealing a sanction
A player who believes a sanction is wrong can appeal through Epic’s Sanctions and Appeals Portal using the Sanction ID in the sanction email. Epic Player Support cannot submit the appeal on the player’s behalf. Epic explains the process in its account-ban support article.

Epic’s legal actions show enforcement, not prevalence
Epic reported in February 2026 that it had taken legal action against a player who cheated and conducted DDoS attacks; the player received a lifetime ban from Epic games and services. The same report listed a $175,000 court judgment in a 2025 tournament-cheating case, a lawsuit against a cheat developer and sellers, and settlements involving a tournament cheater who helped others cheat, a cheat seller and DDoSer, and an individual who stole and sold Epic accounts.
These are examples Epic chose to publish. They demonstrate that the company pursues some cases through legal action, but they do not reveal how many people cheat, whether such cases deter others, or how much cheating takes place in matches.

Is Fortnite “full of cheaters” lately?
Public sources reviewed here do not provide an authoritative current count or rate of Fortnite cheaters, the frequency of cheating matches, detection success, ban reversals, false-positive rates, or a measured reduction in cheating. A player’s experience or online reports may raise a concern, but cannot establish the overall rate.
A 2024 academic study of client-side anti-cheat defenses listed Fortnite as using Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye, but its data collection ended in January 2024. It is historical context, not evidence that both products are still in use or that they are effective today. The study is available from Collins et al., CheckMATE ’24.

What Epic would need to publish to show whether it is enough
Epic has described its tools, tournament safeguards, penalties, and legal enforcement. What it has not supplied in the sources cited here is outcome data that lets players judge the program’s impact. Useful measures would include a clearly defined estimate of cheating prevalence, detection and appeal outcomes, false-positive rates, and trends over time—along with enough explanation of how each figure was measured to interpret it.
Without those figures, it is not possible to verify that Fortnite has become unusually saturated with cheaters, or that Epic’s efforts have reduced cheating. It is reasonable to say Epic’s public reporting leaves players unable to assess whether its response is adequate. The gap is transparency about results, not proof that no anti-cheat work is happening.
