How to download Fortnite on Windows PC
- Download and install the Epic Games Launcher from the official Epic Games Store.
- Open the Launcher and sign in to an Epic Games account, or create one.
- Use the Store search box to find Fortnite.
- Select Get. Fortnite has a $0 base-game price, although optional purchases are available after installation.
- Open Library, select Fortnite, accept the applicable terms, and choose the installation location.
- Select Install and allow the Launcher to download the game files.
Use an SSD if possible, particularly if you want faster launches and shorter loading times. The final installation size can change as Epic updates Fortnite, so leave more free space than the currently displayed download requires.
Windows PC requirements
Epic’s requirements can change with updates. The specifications below reflect Epic’s current support documentation and should be checked again before installing.

Meeting the minimum specification does not mean Fortnite will run at high settings or a high frame rate. If the game stutters, lower the graphics settings, close unnecessary background applications, and use the Epic Games Launcher’s file-verification option. Epic also recommends checking that the computer meets the minimum requirements before troubleshooting performance.
How to download Fortnite on PlayStation
- Open the PlayStation Store on your PS4 or PS5, or use the PlayStation Store website.
- Search for Fortnite.
- Select the official Fortnite listing and choose Download or Add to Library, depending on the storefront interface.
- Start the installation and launch the game when it finishes.
Fortnite is listed as free for PS4 and PS5. PlayStation identifies online play as required, while in-game purchases are optional. You may need a PlayStation Network account and an Epic Games account for account-linked progress and services.
How to download Fortnite on Xbox
- Open the Microsoft Store on an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
- Search for Fortnite.
- Select the official listing, marked Free+, and choose Get or the equivalent install button.
- Wait for the download and installation to complete, then launch Fortnite from your games library.
Microsoft’s listing includes online multiplayer, optional in-game purchases, and parental-control information. Fortnite is also supported through Xbox Cloud Gaming in supported contexts, which can be useful if you want to play without installing the full local game.

- Open the Nintendo eShop on your Switch.
- Search for Fortnite and select the official digital listing.
- Choose the download or free-purchase option shown by the eShop.
- Allow the game to download and install, then start it from the HOME Menu.
Nintendo’s U.S. product page currently lists Fortnite at approximately 19.3 GB. The actual requirement can change, and updates require additional temporary space. If your Switch is short on storage, a Nintendo Switch microSD card can be a practical storage-expansion option, but check the card’s compatibility and your exact console model before buying one.
Do not assume that a Nintendo Switch listing also means the game works on every newer Nintendo system. The current Nintendo listing identifies its Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility status as incompatible, so check the live Nintendo product page before attempting an installation on Switch 2.
How to download Fortnite on iPhone and iPad
iPhone and iPad availability depends on your country or region. Epic’s current mobile support information says Fortnite is available through the App Store worldwide except Australia. Epic separately identifies installation through the Epic Games Store for iOS for players in the European Union, Japan, and Australia. Storefront rules and availability can change, so use the route shown for your location rather than following an installation guide written for another country.
If Fortnite is available through your App Store
- Open the App Store.
- Search for Fortnite and confirm that the publisher and listing are official.
- Tap Get and authenticate with your Apple account if requested.
- Open Fortnite after the installation finishes and sign in to your Epic account.
If Epic Games Store for iOS is the applicable route
- Use Epic’s official mobile instructions for your region.
- Install the Epic Games Store for iOS, following the on-screen requirements from Apple and Epic.
- Find Fortnite in the Epic Games Store and begin the installation.
- Sign in to the appropriate Epic account when the game starts.
Do not install an iOS Fortnite package from a random website or an unofficial profile. If an installation method is not offered by Apple or Epic for your region, it may not be an authorized route.

How to download Fortnite on Android
Epic says Fortnite is available worldwide on Android through Google Play or the Epic Games Store app. The exact route and permission prompts vary by handset, Android version, and country.
Google Play method
- Open Google Play and search for Fortnite.
- Select the official listing and tap Install.
- Wait for the download to finish, then open the game and sign in.
Epic Games Store app method
- Follow Epic’s official Android installation instructions and download the Epic Games Store app from Epic.
- If Android warns that the app is from outside the default store, review the source carefully and enable the required installation permission only for the official Epic installation flow.
- Install the Epic Games Store app, open it, and select Fortnite.
- Complete the installation and restore the permission settings afterward if your device allows you to do so.
Avoid APK mirrors and modified “unlocked” Fortnite packages. They are not needed when an official Epic or Google Play route is available and may expose your device or Epic account to malware.
Play Fortnite without downloading the full game
Epic identifies Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna as supported no-download ways to play Fortnite in applicable contexts. Cloud gaming runs the game remotely, so it is not the same as installing Fortnite locally.
You generally need an Epic account or the relevant platform account, plus a stable internet connection with low enough latency for interactive play. Availability, supported devices, account requirements, subscription terms, and pricing vary by service and location. Cloud play can be useful on a device with limited storage or hardware, but a poor or congested connection can cause input delay, image quality problems, or disconnections.

For account-linked services and progress, Fortnite requires an Epic Games account. Use the same Epic account when moving between supported platforms if you want the account’s eligible progress and items to remain associated with one profile. Reinstalling the Epic Games Launcher does not erase Fortnite progress or items. Epic states that this information is stored with the Epic account rather than only on the local computer. Before troubleshooting or changing devices, confirm that you know the correct Epic account credentials.
Is Fortnite completely free?
The base Fortnite experience is free to download and play, but that does not mean every item or feature costs nothing. Platform listings identify optional in-game purchases, including V-Bucks and other digital content. Purchases, age ratings, spending limits, and parental controls should be reviewed before a child plays or buys content.

Epic says physical V-Bucks cards can be purchased from participating retailers and gifted to another player. In some regions, Fortnite gift cards are replacing V-Bucks cards while older V-Bucks cards may remain available during the transition. A V-Bucks card is intended for Fortnite V-Bucks, whereas a Fortnite gift card can fund V-Bucks, Fortnite Crew, Packs, and certain Epic Games Store purchases subject to the applicable account, platform, and regional rules.
Optional accessories—not download requirements
Fortnite can be played without buying additional hardware. A headset is optional, but a gaming headset for Fortnite can make squad voice chat and directional audio easier to use. Check whether the headset uses the correct connection for your PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch, and verify console voice-chat compatibility before buying.
Likewise, a Switch storage card may help with the approximately 19.3 GB listing and future updates, but it is not required if the console has sufficient free space. These accessories improve convenience; neither is necessary to obtain Fortnite.

Common Fortnite download problems
“Fortnite is not showing in my store”
Check your country, age restrictions, platform compatibility, and parental controls. On mobile, do not use instructions from a different region: iOS and Android availability varies by location and storefront.
The PC installation is slow or fails
- Confirm that Windows is 64-bit and that the computer meets Epic’s current minimum requirements.
- Make sure the installation drive has enough free space for the game and updates.
- Restart the Epic Games Launcher and retry the installation.
- Temporarily close unnecessary applications that may consume bandwidth or disk resources.
- After installation, use the Launcher’s option to verify the game files if Fortnite crashes or reports damaged files.
The game runs poorly on PC
Start by comparing your hardware with the minimum and recommended specifications. Lower graphics settings, close background applications, update the operating system and graphics drivers through their official channels, and verify the installed files. Minimum specifications indicate basic compatibility, not guaranteed high settings or a particular frame rate.

I reinstalled Fortnite and lost my progress
Reinstalling the Launcher or game should not remove progress and items stored with your Epic account. Make sure you signed back in with the same Epic account used previously rather than creating or selecting a different account.
A mobile installation asks for permission outside the default store
This can occur when using the official Epic Games Store route on Android. Confirm that the installer came directly from Epic, review the permission prompt, and do not grant installation permission to an unrelated website or APK mirror. On iPhone and iPad, follow the official Apple/Epic route available in your region.
