1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFortnite error IS-0002-DP-OS-03 is associated in player reports with the Epic Games Launcher failing to set up or reach the game’s installation destination. The exact meaning of the full code is not explained in Epic’s available error-index entry, so there is no confirmed universal fix. Start by checking that the installation drive is connected and that its current drive letter and folder match the destination the launcher expects.
What does Fortnite error IS-0002-DP-OS-03 mean?
Epic’s error-message index includes a DP-OS-03 entry, but the available entry does not define the complete code IS-0002-DP-OS-03. Reports associate it with an installation or repair operation that cannot use its destination, but that association is not an official diagnosis.

Do not treat this code as interchangeable with DP-01. Epic lists DP-01 separately as “Not enough permissions”; that label does not establish the cause of IS-0002-DP-OS-03.
Why might the launcher fail to reach the installation destination?
The drive is disconnected or not recognized
Some Fortnite players have reported seeing the error when an external drive was not fully connected or recognized. A 2024 video creator also describes reconnecting an external drive as a troubleshooting step, but this is not an Epic-confirmed explanation. See the player reports on Reddit and the video description.

The drive letter or folder changed
In an Epic Developer Community discussion about repairing Unreal Engine, a user reported this code after a drive-letter change; another participant said restoring the prior letter fixed their case. That older report makes a changed letter or destination path worth checking, but it does not show that every Fortnite error with this code has the same cause.
A setup or permission problem
The video description characterizes the issue as a setup-permission problem, but that is the creator’s claim rather than Epic’s documented definition. Epic’s separate DP-01 entry is not evidence that IS-0002-DP-OS-03 means “not enough permissions.”

How to troubleshoot IS-0002-DP-OS-03 safely
- Close the Epic Games Launcher. Check in Windows File Explorer that the drive containing Fortnite appears and is accessible.
- Reconnect an external drive if needed. Make sure Windows recognizes the expected volume before reopening the launcher.
- Compare the destination paths. Check the drive letter and folder currently shown in Windows against the installation location the launcher is trying to use. If the letter changed, that mismatch may explain why the launcher cannot reach the expected destination.
- Retry the operation in the launcher. If it still fails, record the exact error text and contact Epic Games Support.
These are reversible checks based on reported scenarios, not a guaranteed or official Epic procedure. The sources available for this code do not establish that running the launcher as administrator or reinstalling Fortnite will fix it. Avoid registry edits, deleting launcher manifests, or manually removing game files unless Epic Support gives case-specific guidance.

Contact support if Windows recognizes the drive, the destination path appears correct, and the launcher still returns IS-0002-DP-OS-03. Include the full code, the operation that triggers it (installation or repair), and whether the game is on an external drive. This helps distinguish a drive-availability or path mismatch from an issue that needs a case-specific diagnosis.
