If Fortnite for PC is stuck on the loading or “Connecting” screen, first check Epic’s service status and known-issue channels. If Epic reports no outage affecting Fortnite or the launcher, work through its PC troubleshooting steps in order: capture any error message, check requirements, verify the game files, clear the launcher cache, and update graphics drivers. The timing after v21.30 is the reported context; the available official support information does not confirm that update caused the problem.
Check whether Epic is having an outage
Start with Epic Games Public Status. Also check Epic’s @FortniteStatus, Fortnite community updates for fixes and known issues, and Fortnite News for reports relevant to the game.
If Epic reports an outage or system-wide failure, wait for service to recover and check status again before reinstalling Fortnite or changing your PC. Epic notes that a launcher issue may resolve when the outage is fixed. A clear status page does not by itself identify the cause, so continue with local checks if the problem persists.
Record exactly what happens
Note whether an error code or full message appears, whether the game becomes unresponsive while “Connecting” is displayed, or whether it closes back to the launcher. These are different symptoms; do not assume they share one cause.

Try Epic’s initial PC troubleshooting steps
- Check the minimum requirements. Compare your PC with Fortnite’s current minimum requirements. If the machine does not meet them, Epic’s guidance points to a device change or upgrade; without your specifications, there is no basis to recommend a particular component.
- Verify Fortnite’s files. In the Epic Games Launcher, open your Library, use the options menu for Fortnite, and choose Manage > Verify. Let the check finish, then try launching the game again.
- Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache. Follow Epic’s current launcher-cache instructions rather than using an unrelated cleanup utility.
- Update your video drivers. Get the appropriate driver update from your graphics hardware manufacturer and follow its installation guidance.

If the initial checks do not help, Epic’s troubleshooting sequence moves on to these steps. Follow the linked Epic instructions and proceed in order; avoid registry edits, third-party cleaners, or disabling security protections as general fixes.
- Run the Epic Games Launcher as administrator.
- Reinstall the launcher or Fortnite.
- Use Epic’s instructions for adding the Fortnite folder to a security exclusion list.
- Try installing the game on another drive.
- Disable background applications as directed in Epic’s guidance.
- Check the drive for errors.
- Remove the FortniteGame folder from local app data. This can reset local game settings, so use this step only after the earlier options and follow Epic’s instructions.
What v21.30 does—and does not—tell you
The reported timing after v21.30 is useful context, but it is not proof that the update caused the loading or “Connecting” problem. Epic’s reviewed support guidance does not confirm a v21.30-specific bug or establish that this exact issue is currently active. Check Epic’s live status and issue channels for current information rather than relying on the version number as a diagnosis.
