Fortnite is already available on iPad in the European Union. Epic launched it on August 16, 2024, and EU players can install it through the Epic Games Store Mobile app or AltStore PAL—not through Apple’s EU App Store. The question now is how to install it, not when it will arrive. Epic’s launch announcement and its current installation guidance cover the iPad as well as the iPhone.
Install Fortnite through the Epic Games Store
Epic’s Games Store Mobile installation route requires iPadOS 18.6 or later. That is the stated requirement for installing the store app; it should not be treated as a universal Fortnite hardware requirement for every way of playing. If the iPad is on an older version, update it before troubleshooting a missing installation option. Epic’s store installation guide lists the software requirement.
- Open Safari on the iPad and go to Epic’s official mobile page.
- Start installing the Epic Games Store and follow the on-screen instructions.
- When iPadOS displays Apple’s approval prompts for alternative app distribution, approve the installation. If asked to allow the marketplace or developer, follow the prompt to the relevant Settings screen and permit it.
- Return to the Home Screen and open the Epic Games Store.
- Select Fortnite, tap Get, and complete the download and installation.
Fortnite’s download is free. Optional in-game purchases are separate, and their payment terms depend on the distribution channel.
Install it through AltStore PAL instead
AltStore PAL is a separate alternative marketplace, not another name for the Epic Games Store. Epic lists it as another EU route for getting Fortnite. To use it, download AltStore PAL from AltStore’s official site, follow its installation instructions, open the marketplace, select Fortnite, and tap Free. Check AltStore PAL’s own current terms for any applicable conditions.

Why Fortnite is not in the EU App Store
Fortnite’s EU iPad release uses alternative app distribution; Apple has not restored the game to the EU App Store. Under its Digital Markets Act compliance changes, Apple supports alternative marketplaces and developer-website app distribution in the EU, with its own eligibility checks and approval steps. Epic distributes Fortnite through its marketplace under this framework. Apple’s EU DMA documentation explains its alternative-distribution arrangements.
Who can install the EU version?
The official availability described by Epic is for the European Union, not Europe as a whole. Being in a nearby European country does not by itself establish eligibility: the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, and other non-EU countries should not be assumed to have the same installation options. Apple’s eligibility checks may consider location and account or device region. Use the official installation flow rather than trying to bypass regional checks with a VPN or region-spoofing tools.

If you installed Fortnite while eligible in the EU and then travel outside the region, Epic says the installed app can continue working and receiving updates for up to 30 days. After that, updates stop, though the app may still open. This travel allowance does not create permanent access for people outside the EU or guarantee that someone who has moved away can install new apps from the Epic Games Store. If the installation does not work
- Fortnite is missing from the App Store: That is expected in the EU. Use the Epic Games Store or AltStore PAL instead. Epic confirms that Fortnite is not offered through the EU App Store in its iOS and iPadOS installation support.
- The Epic Games Store will not install: Confirm that the iPad has iPadOS 18.6 or later, that you are in an eligible EU location, and that you completed Apple’s approval prompts. Start from Epic’s official page in Safari. A reliable connection and sufficient free storage are also sensible checks.
- The store opens, but Fortnite is not listed: Check regional eligibility, refresh or reopen the store, and make sure the store installation completed. If the problem remains, use Epic’s current installation support page rather than relying on unofficial files.
- You are considering an IPA or third-party installer: Avoid random download sites, profile-installation services, and jailbreak-based methods. Epic says it does not officially support third-party software for installing Fortnite on iOS; see its third-party installation guidance.
When native installation is not an option
Epic also lists cloud streaming as a way to play Fortnite where the service supports it. Its guidance points to GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Availability, account requirements, plans, and performance depend on the provider and region. Cloud play can be useful if your location or device cannot use an alternative marketplace, but it relies on a suitable internet connection and may involve service limits or subscription costs.
