Fortnite’s EU iPhone relaunch is no longer “coming soon.” Epic brought Fortnite back to iPhone and iPad in the European Union on August 16, 2024. As of September 2026, eligible EU users can install it through the Epic Games Store mobile app or AltStore PAL. Users elsewhere may have a different native-download option—or may need cloud streaming.
Where Fortnite is available on iPhone and iPad
Fortnite’s installation route depends on your country, device and Apple account eligibility. Epic’s current support information lists these broad options:

Do not assume that iPhone and iPad availability is identical in every country. Epic also lists different restrictions for markets including Japan and Brazil, so check its regional availability guidance before troubleshooting an installation that does not appear.

Install Fortnite through the Epic Games Store
This is the first-party Epic route for eligible EU users.

- Open Epic’s official Fortnite iOS installation page in Safari.
- Follow the prompts to install the Epic Games Store mobile app.
- Complete Apple’s approval and Settings prompts when requested. The exact wording and menu labels can vary by iOS version.
- Open the Epic Games Store from your iPhone or iPad Home Screen.
- Select Fortnite and tap Get.
Fortnite is free to download. Optional purchases, such as cosmetic items or Battle Pass content, are separate from installing the game.
Install Fortnite through AltStore PAL
AltStore PAL is an alternative app marketplace for Apple devices in the EU. It is separate from Apple’s App Store, the Epic Games Store and the regular developer-oriented AltStore sideloading workflow.
- Open the official AltStore website and download AltStore PAL.
- Follow AltStore’s current installation instructions and complete Apple’s approval prompts.
- Open AltStore PAL.
- Select Fortnite and tap Free to begin installation.
Epic’s instructions establish that Fortnite is presented as free to install. They do not, by themselves, establish AltStore PAL’s complete current pricing or funding policy, so do not treat the “Free” button as a statement about every AltStore service condition.
What you need before installing
Eligible EU access
Alternative marketplaces are enabled by the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). The DMA requires changes to how designated gatekeepers distribute apps, but those rules apply geographically. Simply using a VPN or changing a network location does not guarantee eligibility.

Apple may consider factors including your account, device and residency or region status. Being temporarily present in an EU country is not automatically the same as meeting all eligibility requirements.
iOS or iPadOS compatibility
Epic’s 2024 EU launch announcement required iOS 17.6 or later. That was the launch-era requirement and should not automatically be treated as Fortnite’s current minimum in 2026. Check Epic’s live installation page and the compatibility information shown during installation before relying on that version number.
Apple has also updated the EU installation experience over time. Its guidance notes changes introduced with iOS 18.6 for alternative marketplaces and apps distributed from developer websites. Keep the device updated, but remember that an update alone cannot overcome regional or hardware restrictions.
iPhone versus iPad
Epic’s support material indicates that iPad availability is region-dependent. Do not assume that a route or device supported on iPhone will behave identically on iPad. If Fortnite or the marketplace does not appear on an iPad, check Epic’s current iPhone and iPad regional support page rather than using an unofficial installer.

Epic Games Store or AltStore PAL: which should you choose?

Can an EU resident play Fortnite while traveling?
Epic’s EU launch announcement said that an EU resident who had installed the Epic Games Store and Fortnite could continue playing outside the EU for up to 30 days under Apple’s policies at the time.
That statement should not be treated as a guarantee of unrestricted worldwide access or as proof that a non-EU resident can install Fortnite simply by traveling. Apple and Epic’s current terms and eligibility checks may change, so recheck the live guidance if you are leaving the EU for an extended period.
What if Fortnite will not install?
The Get, Free or Install button is missing
Common causes include an ineligible region, an unsupported iOS or iPadOS version, incomplete Apple approval, a marketplace installation that has not finished, or a temporary service issue.
- Update iOS or iPadOS to a version supported by Epic’s current documentation.
- Confirm that you are using an eligible EU country and the correct official installation page.
- Complete every Apple approval prompt, including prompts that send you to Settings.
- Close and reopen Safari or restart the device if the installation flow is stuck.
- Check Epic’s current regional and installation support pages for changed requirements.
- If native installation remains unavailable, consider cloud gaming in a supported region.
Do not fix the problem with a random IPA
Unofficial Fortnite IPA files and third-party sideloading tools are not equivalent to AltStore PAL. Epic says it does not officially support third-party software used to install Fortnite on iOS. An unofficial package may lack required entitlements, fail to launch, stop receiving updates or create security and account risks.

The regular AltStore sideloading ecosystem is also not automatically the same as AltStore PAL. Use the supported marketplace named by Epic, and avoid guides that ask you to download Fortnite from an unfamiliar file-hosting site.
What about a VPN or fake regional account?
A VPN changes apparent network location, not necessarily Apple account, residency, device or marketplace eligibility. VPNs, fake regional accounts and similar region-spoofing methods are not official or reliable installation solutions.

Why did Fortnite need an alternative iPhone store?
Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store in 2020 after Epic introduced a payment mechanism that violated Apple’s App Store rules. The EU’s Digital Markets Act later required changes affecting designated gatekeepers, including alternative app marketplaces and additional distribution and payment options.
That framework is why the EU relaunch could use stores such as the Epic Games Store and AltStore PAL. It does not require Apple to offer the same distribution rules worldwide, which is why the installation route differs between the EU, the United States and other regions.
Epic first announced that Fortnite would return to EU iOS “soon” on July 25, 2024. That wording described the upcoming launch at the time; the actual relaunch followed on August 16, 2024.
