Fortnite returned to Google Play worldwide on March 19, 2026. Android players can now install it through the standard Google Play Store, while Epic Games Store installation and cloud streaming remain available alternatives. The Google Play listing is not a guarantee that every Android phone can run the game, so compatibility, storage, and regional account settings still matter.
How to install Fortnite from Google Play
- Open the Google Play Store on a compatible Android phone or tablet.
- Search for Fortnite.
- Confirm that the developer is listed as Epic Games, Inc.
- Tap Install.
- Open Fortnite and sign in with your Epic Games account, or create one.
- Allow the game to download its additional files and updates.
For the safest download, start from Epic’s official Android page or use the verified Google Play listing. Do not install APKs from unofficial mirrors, “modded” clients, cracked V-Bucks tools, or similarly named apps.

Other official ways to play Fortnite on Android
Epic Games Store for Android
Fortnite is still available through the Epic Games Store for Android. This route is useful if you prefer Epic’s own distribution channel or if the Google Play listing is unavailable for your device or account.
- Visit Epic’s official Android download page.
- Download and install the Epic Games Store app.
- If Android displays a security prompt, follow the device’s instructions to permit installation from that source.
- Install Fortnite from inside the Epic Games Store.
- Restore any security setting you temporarily changed, where applicable.
On Samsung devices, Auto Blocker and other security controls may affect installations from outside Google Play. Do not leave protective settings disabled unnecessarily, and download the store only from Epic’s official domain.

Cloud streaming
Epic also lists Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna as cloud options in supported regions. Cloud gaming does not install the full game locally, making it useful for unsupported or low-storage devices.
The trade-off is that streaming depends on a reliable, low-latency internet connection. Availability, queues, subscriptions, session limits, controller support, and features vary by provider and country.
When did Fortnite leave Google Play?
Google Play removed Fortnite in August 2020 after Epic introduced a direct-payment option that bypassed Google Play’s billing system. The immediate dispute concerned Epic’s violation of the store’s rules at the time; the wider legal fight focused on app distribution, payment processing, and platform commissions.

The removal did not make Fortnite unavailable on Android. Epic continued distributing the game through its own Android store, and players could also use cloud services where supported. Google Play’s return restores the conventional app-store route rather than bringing Fortnite to Android for the first time.
When exactly did it return?
Epic announced the worldwide Google Play launch for March 19, 2026, alongside the Fortnite Showdown season. That date should not be confused with March 4, 2026, when Epic and Google announced their settlement.
Epic’s announcement is available at Fortnite launches on Google Play worldwide. Epic’s current Android page also explicitly lists Google Play availability in the United States.

Google Play or Epic Games Store?

Can existing Epic Games Store players switch?
Yes. Players can update from the Epic Games Store or reinstall Fortnite through Google Play. Use the same Epic Games account to retain account-linked progression and purchases.

Changing distribution sources is not necessarily a normal in-place update. Reinstalling may require downloading the game again and can temporarily use duplicate storage. Do not assume that every local setting or cached file will survive an uninstall.
Account progression and cosmetics are separate from local installation data. Payment records, platform-specific balances, refund routes, and purchase methods may not behave identically across stores, so verify the checkout screen before buying.

Does Fortnite use Google Play Billing now?
There is no single checkout assumption that safely applies to every Android channel, country, and transaction. The Epic–Google settlement and Google’s policy changes affect alternative billing and distribution, but the available evidence does not establish that every Fortnite purchase uses the same payment flow.
Google’s current policy update says that, for U.S. users, Google will not require apps distributed through Google Play to use Google Play Billing and will not prohibit alternative payment methods, subject to applicable programs and fees. Check the live purchase screen before using Google Play balance, gift cards, or Epic’s direct checkout. Do not assume prices, fees, or payment support are identical between the Google Play and Epic Games Store versions.
Why did Fortnite come back?
On March 4, 2026, Epic and Google announced a worldwide settlement of their disputes. Epic said the agreement would allow Fortnite to return to Google Play while Epic continued operating its own Android store.

For Epic, the arrangement combines access to Google Play’s large user base with an independent distribution channel. For Google, it resolves a costly dispute while Android’s rules are changing around payment choices and competing stores.
Google’s policy page describes changes involving alternative billing, external links, and third-party Android stores. It says eligible third-party U.S. Android stores could begin onboarding to Google’s Third-party App Store on Play Program on July 15, 2026, with the program effective July 22, 2026. That is broader Android context—not evidence that Fortnite is distributed through a third-party store inside Google Play. Fortnite’s return is a direct Google Play app listing.
What to do if Fortnite is missing or will not install
Epic says an unavailable Google Play listing may mean that the device is unsupported. If you cannot find or install the game, check the following:

- Update Android and Google Play Services where updates are available.
- Check available storage for the installation and additional game files.
- Make sure Google Play normally works on the device, particularly on devices with modified software.
- Check whether the Google account’s country, parental controls, or device-management policies restrict the listing.
- Verify that you are looking for the app published by Epic Games, Inc., not a similarly named listing.
A game installed through Epic’s store may not update through Google Play. Epic’s support guidance says users may need to update it from the original source or reinstall it through Google Play. Use Epic’s troubleshooting guidance before trying unofficial installers.
What you may actually need
- No purchase: Google Play installation on a compatible device.
- Optional controller: A Bluetooth or USB-C controller can help players who dislike touch controls, especially when cloud streaming.
- Optional cloud plan: Useful when local installation is unavailable, but provider costs and limits vary.
- Possible device upgrade: Check Epic’s current compatibility requirements before buying a new phone or tablet. A high-end gaming phone is unnecessary if a compatible existing device works.
Do not buy “Fortnite APK” downloads, accounts, unofficial V-Bucks, or services promising free currency. They are not legitimate installation routes.
A brief note about iPhone and iPad
Android’s return should not be treated as a blanket statement about iOS availability in every country. Epic announced that Fortnite returned to the App Store worldwide in May 2026 while noting that Australia remained unresolved at that time. Android and iOS availability should therefore be checked separately by region.
