Yes. Fortnite is currently available on the U.S. App Store for compatible iPhone and iPad models. However, it did not newly return to the United States in August 2026: Epic’s U.S. comeback happened in May 2025. The major 2026 development was Epic’s announcement that Fortnite had returned to App Stores in many more regions, although Australia remained an exception.

Fortnite’s current U.S. App Store status
The official U.S. App Store lists Fortnite as a free iPhone and iPad app from Epic Games Inc. The game is free to download and play, but it includes optional in-app purchases. The listing currently shows an approximate app size of 1.8 GB and an age rating of 13+.
That 1.8 GB figure is the store’s listed app size, not a guarantee of the total space Fortnite will eventually use. Updates and additional game content can require more storage.

Availability can still depend on your Apple Account country or region, device model, operating-system version, and hardware compatibility.

When did Fortnite return to the U.S.?
Fortnite was removed from Apple’s App Store on August 13, 2020, after Epic added a direct-payment option that bypassed Apple’s in-app payment system. Apple then removed the game, beginning a legal dispute that continued for years.
The U.S. return took place in May 2025. According to Epic’s court filing, the company submitted a U.S. App Store build on May 9, submitted an updated build on May 14, and described a dispute with Apple over the review process on May 15. Fortnite subsequently returned to the U.S. iPhone and iPad App Store that month.
The filing documents the submission and review timeline, but it does not establish a precise public launch minute. The reliable takeaway is that Fortnite returned to the U.S. App Store in May 2025—not in August 2026.

What changed in May 2026?
On May 19, 2026, Epic announced that Fortnite was back on App Stores “around the world.” That announcement concerned broader geographic availability; it was not Fortnite’s first return to the U.S.
“Worldwide” needs an important qualification: Epic’s own announcement said Fortnite had not returned to the Australian App Store. Availability also differs by market. Epic’s current guidance points users in the European Union and Japan toward alternative iOS distribution routes, while U.S. users should use Apple’s App Store.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe legal dispute also should not be reduced to “Epic won its antitrust case.” The Associated Press reported that Epic lost its central monopoly claim from the earlier litigation, while later court orders addressed Apple’s handling of alternative payment links and related conduct. The legal and payment questions remain separate from the simple fact that the game is now listed in the U.S.
Rank #3
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

How to install Fortnite on an iPhone or iPad in the U.S.
- Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
- Search for Fortnite.
- Confirm that the developer is Epic Games Inc.
- Tap Get.
- Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, your Apple Account password, or the method configured on your device.
- Open Fortnite and sign in with an existing Epic Games account, or create one.
- Allow the game to download additional files and updates before playing.
If search results are confusing, open the direct U.S. listing in Safari and choose to open it in the App Store. Do not rely on an unofficial clone or a download site claiming to provide an iOS package.
Compatible iPhone and iPad models
Apple’s current listing identifies these compatible device families:
- iPhone XS and newer
- iPhone 11 and newer
- iPhone 12 mini and newer
- iPhone SE, third generation and newer
- iPad Pro 10.5-inch and newer
- iPad Air, fourth generation and newer
- iPad, tenth generation and newer
- iPad mini, sixth generation and newer
The App Store listing contains overlapping iPhone categories, so it is better to follow Apple’s stated model families than to infer a single universal minimum chip requirement. Compatibility also does not guarantee identical performance. Frame rate, graphics settings, heat, battery use, and loading behavior can vary substantially between supported devices.
If Fortnite does not appear in your App Store
A missing listing does not necessarily mean Fortnite has been removed again. Check these possibilities:

- Apple Account region: Your account may be using a non-U.S. storefront.
- Device compatibility: Your iPhone or iPad may not be among Apple’s supported models.
- Software version: Your current iOS or iPadOS version may not meet the listing’s requirements.
- Restrictions: Screen Time or parental controls may block apps with Fortnite’s age rating.
- Catalog or App Store issue: The regional catalog may need to refresh, or Apple’s service may be experiencing a temporary problem.
- Incorrect result: You may be looking at an unofficial app with a similar name.
Use this recovery sequence:
- Open the direct U.S. listing in Safari.
- Check your Apple Account’s country or region.
- Confirm that your device appears in the compatible-model list.
- Install available iOS or iPadOS updates that your hardware supports.
- Review Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Close and reopen the App Store, then restart the device if necessary.

Epic’s May 2025 filing said its U.S. submission included Apple’s in-app purchase system alongside a link to the Epic Games Store, where Epic described a 20% return on purchases. That was a description of the submitted build and the payment dispute at that time.

Alternatives when the native app is unavailable
Epic Games Store on iOS
The Epic Games Store is relevant to iPhone and iPad users in regions where alternative app marketplaces are officially supported, particularly the European Union and Japan. It is not the normal U.S. installation route; U.S. users should use the App Store.
Epic’s store information says the mobile store requires iOS 17.6 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 18 or later on iPad, with regional and device restrictions applying.
Visit Epic’s mobile iOS store page.
Cloud gaming
Epic identifies Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna as cloud options for playing Fortnite without downloading the native iOS app, where each service supports the player’s region and account.
Cloud gaming avoids a large local installation and can help when a device cannot run the native app. The trade-off is that play quality depends on internet speed, latency, data limits, service availability, queues, plan rules, and controller or touch-control support. Native installation is generally the more predictable choice for a compatible U.S. iPhone or iPad.
Android
For Android devices, Epic’s current support material describes Fortnite as available through Google Play or the Epic Games Store app, subject to legal and regional restrictions.
