You can play the free-to-start game through Xbox’s app or continue using the Epic Games Launcher; the Xbox option adds Xbox library integration and Play Anywhere continuity, not a separate version of Fortnite.
Is Fortnite on the Xbox PC app?
Yes. Xbox announced the PC-app launch on November 14, 2025, with availability beginning November 18. The current Xbox Store listing includes PC among its supported platforms and identifies Epic Games Inc. as the publisher and developer.
The same listing labels Fortnite “Free+,” shows in-game purchases, and identifies online multiplayer and co-op capabilities. “Free+” means the game is free to access but includes optional purchases; it does not mean every item or balance of content is free.
What does the Xbox app add?
Its main distinction is Xbox ecosystem integration. Xbox described Fortnite’s Play Anywhere support as letting progress and purchases follow players across Xbox consoles, PC, and supported gaming handhelds. The current store listing carries both the Xbox Play Anywhere and Handheld Optimized labels. These labels describe platform support; they are not a guarantee of identical performance on every PC or handheld.

If you already use the Epic Games Launcher, the Xbox app is another way to launch Fortnite on PC. The official sources do not establish that either launcher offers better performance, lower latency, different Fortnite content, or an advantage in gameplay.
Will Fortnite progress transfer to PC?
Epic Games says purchased content and progress are accessible across platforms when the relevant Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Switch, or mobile account is linked to the same Epic Games account. Epic’s cross-platform guidance makes an exception for V-Bucks: balances do not necessarily transfer across platforms. Do not assume every V-Bucks balance will be available everywhere.

Before switching devices
- Check that the platform account you use is linked to the Epic Games account containing your Fortnite progress.
- Use that same Epic Games account when playing on another supported platform.
- Check your V-Bucks balance on the platform where you intend to spend it rather than assuming balances are shared.
Do you need Game Pass to play Fortnite on PC?
No Game Pass subscription is required to access Fortnite itself: the Xbox Store lists the game as Free+. Xbox announced a separate benefit for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers: Fortnite Crew benefits began on November 18, 2025. That subscription benefit is distinct from the game’s free listing.
Xbox’s 2025 announcement described Fortnite Crew as worth $11.99 per month at the time and said Rocket Pass Premium was included as a bonus benefit that could change. That is a dated announcement figure, not confirmation of current Crew pricing or terms. Check the current Xbox and Fortnite listings before subscribing.

Can Fortnite run on Arm-based Windows PCs?
Microsoft said on January 21, 2026, that Fortnite is enabled on Arm-based Windows 11 PCs through Epic Easy Anti-Cheat support. This confirms support, not a performance guarantee for every Arm device. The cited Microsoft post does not provide Fortnite-specific performance results or exact system requirements, so check compatibility for your particular PC before installing.
Microsoft also noted that Xbox Cloud Gaming can be an option for titles that are not supported locally. Its post does not say that Fortnite requires cloud play.

Xbox app or Epic Games Launcher: which should you use?

Choose the launcher that fits your library and device. Whichever you use, account linking—not the launcher alone—is central to accessing your progress across platforms.
