There is no single officially “best” Fortnite mouse sensitivity, DPI, or X-to-Y ratio. The reliable approach is to create a repeatable baseline: record your mouse DPI, Fortnite X- and Y-Axis Sensitivity, Targeting Sensitivity, Scope Sensitivity, and polling rate, then change one variable at a time. Lower sensitivity gives you more physical mouse travel for precise corrections; higher sensitivity turns faster with less desk space. Your best setting is the one you can control consistently for tracking, building, editing, and close-range turns.
If the same setting feels different at different movement speeds, fix Windows pointer acceleration before changing Fortnite values. If moving the mouse causes frame-rate drops, test the polling rate instead of assuming your sensitivity is wrong.

What Fortnite mouse sensitivity actually controls
Fortnite separates mouse behavior into several controls rather than one universal sensitivity number. Open Fortnite’s Settings and select the mouse-and-keyboard input section to see the current values. The settings reference identifies these controls:

- Targeting Sensitivity: a modifier used while aiming down sights or otherwise targeting.
- Scope Sensitivity: a modifier used when a scoped weapon is active.
- Ignore Controller Input: controls whether controller input is disregarded while using the mouse.
- Lock Input Method as Mouse: keeps the game treating the mouse as the active input method rather than switching based on another device.
These percentages only describe Fortnite’s in-game multipliers. They are not comparable by themselves unless you also know the mouse DPI, Windows pointer behavior, and the measurement method used to compare them.

Why copying a “pro sensitivity” is not a solution
Official Fortnite material does not publish a universal best mouse sensitivity, a best DPI, or a required Y-to-X ratio. A professional player’s value reflects that player’s mouse, desk space, display, grip, practice history, and other settings. Copying the number can give you a starting experiment, but it cannot establish that the value is optimal for your setup.
Think of sensitivity as a documented setup rather than a magic number. You should be able to reproduce it after a driver update, a new mouse, or a settings reset. That repeatability matters more than whether the percentage looks high or low.
Create a baseline before changing anything
- Record the mouse DPI. Use the mouse’s hardware button, configuration utility, or manufacturer documentation to identify the active DPI stage. If the mouse stores several stages, note which one is selected.
- Record every Fortnite field. Write down X-Axis Sensitivity, Y-Axis Sensitivity, Targeting Sensitivity, and Scope Sensitivity. Also note the input-method options and whether any advanced mouse settings are enabled.
- Record the polling rate. If your mouse software exposes a USB polling-rate setting, write it down. Polling rate is separate from sensitivity.
- Record the environment. Note your display resolution, fullscreen or windowed mode, mouse surface, and the amount of usable desk travel. These details help explain why a setting feels different after a hardware change.
Take a screenshot or keep a text record before testing. If a change makes aim worse, you can restore the exact previous state instead of guessing what moved.

For a first baseline, keep X-Axis and Y-Axis Sensitivity equal. Equal axes make a measured mouse movement produce predictable horizontal and vertical behavior, which simplifies early testing. A different ratio can be useful for a specific reason, but changing it immediately makes it harder to tell whether a problem comes from overall speed or from vertical movement.

Choose a value that lets you make a controlled small correction while still turning far enough for building, editing, and close fights. The exact percentage is intentionally not prescribed: the official sources provide no authoritative universal value. Start with the settings already comfortable enough to play, or choose a moderate value and test it systematically rather than repeatedly moving the slider at random.
Balance the two competing requirements
- Precision and tracking: lower sensitivity generally requires more physical distance for the same camera rotation, giving your hand more room for small corrections.
- Turn speed and coverage: higher sensitivity reaches a large camera turn with less desk travel, which can feel useful in close fights and rapid building or editing.
- Available space: a large mouse area can accommodate a slower setting; a restricted surface may require more speed to avoid lifting the mouse constantly.
Neither side is universally superior. The goal is a setting that remains controllable when you switch between tracking a distant target, making a small edit, and turning quickly at close range.
Use a repeatable Fortnite tuning method
- Enter a consistent Creative-mode drill. Use the same targets, distance, weapons, and movement pattern each session. A repeatable drill is more useful than a single impressive flick.
- Test large turns first. Perform a measured swipe across the same portion of your mouse pad and observe whether you can turn and stop where intended. If you repeatedly run out of space, the setting may be too slow for your environment; if you overshoot, it may be too fast.
- Test small corrections and tracking. Follow moving targets and make short adjustments without lifting the mouse. Note whether the crosshair feels stable or whether you are constantly correcting past the target.
- Test building and editing. Perform the edits and camera movements you use in real matches. A setting that feels excellent for stationary aim may feel too slow for rapid piece placement or too unstable for precise edits.
- Change one variable only. Adjust overall X/Y sensitivity, targeting, scope, DPI, or polling rate separately. Keep a dated note of the old and new value.
- Judge several sessions, not one fight. Fatigue, warm-up, and unfamiliarity can make a new setting feel wrong temporarily. Keep a value only when it remains controllable across repeated drills and normal matches.
Keep X and Y equal during the first round of testing. If horizontal aim is comfortable but vertical movement is consistently too fast or too slow, then test a deliberate Y-axis change and document the reason.
Compare different mice and games with cm/360°
Percentages from two games or two mice are not automatically equivalent. A useful physical comparison is cm/360°: the number of centimetres of mouse travel needed to rotate the in-game camera 360 degrees. The measure links physical displacement to camera rotation, so it can reveal whether a new setup is genuinely faster or slower even when the displayed percentages differ.

- Record the mouse DPI and the game’s sensitivity value.
- Place the mouse at a marked starting point.
- Move in a straight line until the in-game view completes one 360-degree turn.
- Measure the distance travelled and repeat the test to reduce measuring error.
- Record the game, resolution, field of view, DPI, sensitivity, and measurement method beside the result.
Use cm/360° to compare physical turn speed, not to declare a universally correct value. Targeting and scope modifiers still need separate testing because they change the feel while aiming.
Stop Fortnite sensitivity from changing during movement
Disable Enhanced Pointer Precision
Windows Enhanced Pointer Precision is pointer acceleration. Epic explains that it changes mouse sensitivity depending on how fast or slowly you move the mouse. That means two swipes of the same physical length can produce different pointer behavior, making a carefully chosen Fortnite value feel inconsistent.
- Press the Windows key and search for Mouse settings.
- Open Additional mouse settings (the wording may appear as a related settings link).
- Open the Pointer Options tab.
- Clear Enhance pointer precision.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Restart Fortnite and repeat the same Creative-mode drill.
Do not compensate for acceleration by immediately changing Fortnite sensitivity. First retest the documented baseline with acceleration disabled, then decide whether an in-game adjustment is still needed.
Check for software or driver interference
If behavior remains abnormal, close mouse-remapping, macro, or overlay utilities temporarily and test again. Reinstall or update the third-party mouse driver when the device is not behaving normally. A driver problem can look like a sensitivity problem because clicks, movement, or device detection may be inconsistent.

Polling rate: fix frame drops that occur when you move the mouse
Polling rate is how often the mouse reports its position to the computer, measured in hertz. It is not the same control as DPI or Fortnite sensitivity. Epic identifies a high polling rate as the most common cause when moving the mouse causes FPS drops and recommends testing between 500 Hz and 1000 Hz for performance and input response. This is a testing range, not a guarantee for every computer or mouse.
- Open the mouse configuration utility and note the current polling rate.
- Test 500 Hz, then 1000 Hz, or the nearest available values.
- Use the same Fortnite scene and movement pattern while watching for frame-time spikes or FPS drops.
- Keep the value that gives stable performance without making input feel erratic.
- If neither value solves the problem, test other available rates and investigate broader USB, driver, or system-load issues.
Do not alter DPI or sensitivity to hide a polling-related performance problem. Resolve the frame-rate behavior first, then evaluate aim.

The mouse is not recognized
- Unplug the mouse and connect it to another USB port.
- Avoid unpowered hubs while testing.
- Restart Windows and Fortnite after reconnecting it.
- Update or reinstall the third-party mouse driver if detection or movement remains abnormal.
The cursor or clicks appear misaligned
For cursor-alignment problems, use Epic’s display troubleshooting sequence rather than changing sensitivity:
- Set Fortnite to Fullscreen.
- Set the resolution to 1920×1080 with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
- Select Apply.
- Restart the game and test the cursor again.
This sequence addresses alignment and display-mode behavior; it is not a recommended sensitivity value.

Input-method settings and controller options
If a controller is connected while you play with a mouse, review Ignore Controller Input and Lock Input Method as Mouse in the mouse-and-keyboard settings. These options affect which device Fortnite treats as active and can prevent unexpected input switching.
Epic also documents a general path of Settings → Controller options → Sensitivity with a Use Advanced Options control. That material concerns controller aim assist, not a recommended mouse sensitivity. Do not use the controller article as evidence for a mouse percentage.
When your sensitivity changes after a mouse upgrade
A new mouse can use a different default DPI, a different active DPI stage, or a different driver profile even when Fortnite’s percentages are unchanged. Before retuning, verify the new mouse’s DPI, polling rate, Windows pointer setting, and driver profile. Then repeat the baseline record and cm/360° measurement. If the physical turn distance is the same, the setup is comparable even if the on-screen percentage differs.
Cloud sync, settings resets, or launching with a different profile can also restore older Fortnite values. Keep your written record so you can compare each field and restore the intended setup quickly.
Quick Recap
A compact decision checklist
- Feels different at different movement speeds: disable Enhanced Pointer Precision and retest.
- FPS drops only while moving the mouse: test 500–1000 Hz polling rates.
- Mouse is not detected: try another USB port, restart, and update or reinstall the mouse driver.
- Cursor is misaligned: use Fullscreen, 1920×1080, 16:9, Apply, and restart.
- New mouse feels faster or slower: verify DPI and compare cm/360° before changing Fortnite values.
- Aim is precise but building feels slow: test a small overall sensitivity increase while keeping other variables fixed.
- Turning is fast but corrections overshoot: test a small decrease and evaluate tracking over several sessions.
As an optional shortcut for the driver side of this troubleshooting, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan more than 100 devices for outdated, corrupted, or missing drivers, install official drivers, show current and recommended versions, and provide driver backup, restore, and scheduled scans.
