For an Insignia USB Bluetooth adapter, start with Windows’ own driver workflow: identify the exact model (NS-PCY5BMA, NS-PCY5BMA-C, NS-PCY5BMA2 or NS-PCY5BMA2-C), run Device Manager’s automatic search, install Windows updates and restart. If that fails, uninstall the adapter in Device Manager and restart so Windows can reinstall it; use Roll Back Driver when the problem began immediately after an update.
Insignia’s older quick-start material covers Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, not Windows 11. A current package may or may not be offered on Insignia’s support site, so verify your Windows edition and the model printed on the dongle before downloading anything.

Which Insignia adapter do you have?
Insignia sold several closely related USB Bluetooth dongles. Read the model printed on the adapter, its label or the original packaging before choosing a driver:

If the label is unreadable, unplug the dongle, check the packaging or purchase record, then reconnect it and look in Device Manager. Windows may show a generic Bluetooth or unknown USB device name rather than the retail model.

Is there a current Insignia driver download?
The official route is Insignia’s support site. Open Support & Service, enter the model number in Manual, Firmware, Drivers & Product Information, and select Driver if a package is listed. The availability of a current package is not established, so an empty result does not prove that the adapter is defective or discontinued.
Do not use a third-party “driver download” catalog merely because it lists the model. Such sites can provide the wrong revision or bundled software. Windows Update and Device Manager are the safer first choices, and a manufacturer package should match both the exact model and your Windows version.
The historical quick-start guide says Windows automatically downloads the driver after the adapter is inserted, followed by a computer restart. It lists Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7. That list describes the guide’s supported systems; it is not confirmation of Windows 11 support.

Install or update the driver in Windows 10 or 11
Microsoft’s current first-line procedure is the same on Windows 10 and Windows 11, although Windows 11’s Settings layout can differ slightly by release. Follow these steps while connected to the internet.
- Identify the model. Write down NS-PCY5BMA, NS-PCY5BMA-C, NS-PCY5BMA2 or NS-PCY5BMA2-C exactly as printed.
- Connect directly. Insert the dongle into a USB port on the computer, not through an unpowered hub. If nothing changes, try another port and restart Windows.
- Open Device Manager. Select Start, type Device Manager, and open it. Expand Bluetooth. If that category is absent, check for an Unknown device or a device with a warning icon under Other devices or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Run the automatic search. Right-click the Insignia or Bluetooth adapter, choose Update driver, then Search automatically for drivers. Allow Windows to complete the search and installation.
- Apply Windows updates. In Windows 11, open Settings > Windows Update; in Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Select Check for updates, install available updates, and restart when prompted.
- Test the adapter. After the restart, return to Device Manager. The Bluetooth adapter should appear without a warning icon. Turn Bluetooth on in Settings > Bluetooth & devices (Windows 11) or Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices (Windows 10), then try pairing.
Automatic search can report that the best driver is already installed even when a newer manufacturer package exists. That message means Windows found no newer package in the locations it searched; it is not proof that every possible driver is current.
When Windows says the driver is unavailable
“Driver unavailable,” an unknown device, or a yellow warning icon can result from a failed update, a damaged installation, a USB detection problem, an unsupported Windows version or a conflict with the computer’s built-in Bluetooth.

Uninstall and let Windows reinstall
- Open Device Manager and expand Bluetooth (or open the category containing the unknown adapter).
- Right-click the Insignia adapter and choose Uninstall device.
- Confirm the removal. If Windows offers a checkbox to remove the driver package, note that selecting it removes the local package and may require Windows Update or a manufacturer package afterward.
- Shut down or restart the computer with the dongle connected. Microsoft’s procedure expects Windows to detect the hardware and reinstall a suitable driver after restart.
- Recheck Device Manager and run Update driver > Search automatically for drivers if the device still has a warning icon.
Roll back a driver that caused the failure
If Bluetooth worked until a recent driver or Windows update, open the adapter’s Properties > Driver tab in Device Manager. Select Roll Back Driver when the button is available, choose a reason, and restart. The button can be unavailable when Windows has no earlier package retained; in that case, uninstall and reinstall instead.

Check basic USB detection
- Try a second USB port and, on a desktop, a port directly on the rear motherboard panel.
- Remove the dongle, restart Windows, sign in, and insert it again.
- Test the adapter on another Windows computer if possible. If it is absent everywhere, the hardware or USB connector may have failed; a driver change cannot repair a physically defective dongle.
- Disconnect other Bluetooth dongles while testing. Running two adapters can create competing radios and duplicate services.
Resolve built-in Bluetooth conflicts
Many laptops and desktops already include Bluetooth. Insignia’s troubleshooting guidance says to disable the built-in Bluetooth, uninstall existing Bluetooth software, and reinstall the Insignia adapter when the two installations conflict.
- Open Device Manager > Bluetooth and identify the computer’s internal Bluetooth entry separately from the USB adapter.
- Right-click the internal entry and choose Disable device temporarily. Do not uninstall unrelated network hardware.
- In Apps or Apps & features, remove old vendor Bluetooth software only when you know it belongs to the conflicting installation.
- Restart, insert the Insignia dongle, and repeat the automatic driver search.
- Pair one device at a time. If the USB adapter works, you can re-enable the internal Bluetooth later and determine which radio you want to use; avoid leaving both active if they interfere.
Pair a headset, speaker or controller after installation
A successful driver install does not automatically change Windows’ audio routing. Open the Bluetooth settings page, choose Add device, select Bluetooth, and put the accessory in pairing mode. After it appears as connected, open Settings > System > Sound and select the paired headset or speakers as the output device. If the headset has a microphone, select it under the input device list as well. Insignia’s troubleshooting text specifically notes that Windows can continue using the computer’s built-in audio output or microphone until you choose the paired device.

Use Insignia’s support package when Windows Update is not enough
- Confirm the complete model suffix on the dongle.
- Go to insigniaproducts.com, open Support & Service, and enter the model under Manual, Firmware, Drivers & Product Information.
- If a Driver link is offered, download only the package that names your model and Windows edition.
- Read any included instructions, close Bluetooth software, and run the installer as an administrator if the package requires it.
- Restart Windows, then verify the adapter in Device Manager and test a pairing.
If the support page offers only a manual, do not substitute a package for a neighboring model. Return to Windows Update, or consider a replacement adapter whose Windows support is clearly stated.
Why the old Broadcom instruction is different
An older Insignia manual directs Windows 7/Vista-era users to Broadcom’s update page: http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php3 and says to follow the instructions there. That is a historical instruction, not the preferred Windows 10 or Windows 11 workflow. Current readers should begin with Device Manager and Windows Update; use legacy material only when maintaining an older system and after confirming that the page and package are still available.

Microsoft’s Bluetooth troubleshooting and update guidance covers Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. The operating system may still run the adapter, but it no longer receives normal Microsoft support after that date, so a Windows 10 driver result should not be treated as evidence of ongoing security or compatibility maintenance.

The quick-start guide’s Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 list is historical. Windows 11 users should first try the built-in workflow and then verify that any Insignia package explicitly supports their edition. If no package works, the adapter may rely on an older chipset without a current Windows 11 driver.
Choosing a replacement USB Bluetooth adapter
When the dongle is not detected on multiple computers, no matching package is available, or the required Windows version is unsupported, replacing the hardware is usually more practical than repeatedly forcing an old installer. Search for a model-neutral USB Bluetooth 4.0 adapter and verify the listing before purchase.

Do not assume a replacement uses the same chipset as an Insignia model unless the listing proves it. After installing a replacement, remove or disable the old adapter before pairing devices so Windows has one clear Bluetooth path.

- Exact model recorded: NS-PCY5BMA, NS-PCY5BMA-C, NS-PCY5BMA2 or NS-PCY5BMA2-C.
- Adapter tested in a direct USB port and after a restart.
- Device Manager checked under Bluetooth, Other devices and USB controllers.
- Automatic driver search completed.
- Windows Update checked and the computer restarted.
- Uninstall-and-restart procedure attempted if installation failed.
- Roll Back Driver used when the fault followed an update and the option was available.
- Built-in Bluetooth conflict ruled out.
- Paired audio device selected as Windows output and microphone.
- Insignia support package used only when it matches the exact model and Windows edition.
