Epic Games said the mode was “here to stay,” so the date marked its return—not a two-month deadline for the mode to disappear.
What is Fortnite OG?
Fortnite OG is a free-to-play mode that revisits Fortnite’s original Chapter 1 experience. Epic described its December 2024 return as a chance to revisit Chapter 1 Season 1, including the original-style loot, locations, and gameplay. The official announcement framed the mode as a return to the beginning.

Epic Games Store’s Fortnite OG listing describes dropping into the OG map and collecting OG loot. It also lists controller support; using a controller is optional, and that general listing does not confirm compatibility for every controller model or platform.
Is Fortnite OG here to stay?
Epic’s November 12, 2024 announcement said Fortnite OG was “here to stay.” Epic Support’s page asking whether the mode was limited-time directs players to that announcement. In other words, the announcement presented OG as an ongoing mode rather than a short event.

How long does each Fortnite OG season last?
Epic Games Store says each OG season runs approximately two months. That describes the season cadence, not the lifespan of Fortnite OG itself: a season can change without the mode ending.
When did Fortnite OG return?
The return took place on December 6, 2024, following Epic’s announcement on November 12, 2024. The launch returned players to Chapter 1 Season 1; the date is historical, not a future launch date.
