Fortnite OG launched on December 6, 2024—not tomorrow. Epic’s announcement the day before revealed a return to the original Chapter 1 map and Season 1 loot, with modern movement and quality-of-life features alongside selected classic mechanics. Epic now describes OG as a free, ongoing experience; the original 45-tier pass and its January 2025 deadline were specific to the launch season.
What Fortnite OG brought back
Epic announced Fortnite OG on December 5, 2024, as a return to the earliest days of Battle Royale. The mode launched the following day with the original map and a progression through the initial Chapter 1 seasons. Its day-one loot pool was intended to match the original Chapter 1 Season 1 launch pool, with more items to be unvaulted over the season. Epic’s announcement called the experience “always on, every day.”
The launch pool named by Epic included:
- Assault Rifle, Burst Assault Rifle, Scoped Assault Rifle, Pump Shotgun and Tactical Shotgun
- Pistol, Revolver, Submachine Gun and Tactical Machine Gun
- Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle and Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle
- Grenade Launcher and Rocket Launcher
- Damage Trap, Ceiling Zapper and Wall Dynamo
Epic said traps would also appear in Zero Build as surprises in existing buildings.
Modes and mechanics at launch
Solos, Squads and Zero Build were available immediately. Players could choose between building-focused Battle Royale and Zero Build; in Zero Build, Epic said ziplines and ascenders would help players reach hard-to-access places. Ranked OG was described as coming soon in the 2024 announcement, which does not establish its current availability.

The launch aimed to mix older gameplay with newer conveniences. Epic said building mechanics would match current Battle Royale, while players could sprint, slide, mantle, bash doors and move while healing. Reboot Vans and sniper-scope glare were also included. The announcement specified a 999 maximum building-resource cap and said double pump for shotguns was available “for now.” These are announcement-time details, not confirmation of the mode’s current mechanics.
What was in the original OG Pass
The Chapter 1 Season 1 OG Pass had 45 tiers and featured three outfits: Renegade Rebel, Aerial Assault Bomber and Skull Commander. Each outfit had an unlockable alternate style. XP from any Fortnite experience could level up the pass.
That particular pass was available through January 31, 2025, at 2 AM ET, when the opening season was scheduled to end. These details describe the original launch pass, not the current one.

What Fortnite OG is now
Epic’s currently accessible Epic Games Store listing describes Fortnite OG as free and “BACK and here to stay,” with a release date of December 6, 2024. It says OG seasons last approximately two months and bring back loot and features, with a new OG Pass available each season for V-Bucks or through Fortnite Crew.
The listing does not establish which OG season or pass is live on October 8, 2026, its rewards or its end date. It describes Windows availability; it is not a comprehensive confirmation of availability on other platforms.
