If you can’t slide in Fortnite, first check whether the problem is actually a sprinting failure, and note your game mode and input device. Epic has identified a specific issue affecting controller players who cannot sprint in Build Mode; it has not confirmed a general bug that prevents players from sliding while tactical sprinting. For the Build Mode issue, Epic’s workarounds are to take out a pickaxe or weapon, or unbind Sprint / Autorun (Double Press) in the Building and Edit controls.
What issue has Epic confirmed?
Epic’s support article about controller sprinting in Build Mode says: “We are aware that our players on controllers cannot Sprint while they are in Build Mode.” Epic says it is investigating the problem. That report is about sprinting, not a universal failure to slide after tactical sprinting, and its scope is controller use in Build Mode.
If you play on a controller in Build Mode
Try either workaround Epic lists:
- Take out a pickaxe or weapon and continue sprinting.
- In the Building and Edit controls, unbind Sprint / Autorun (Double Press).
Epic’s investigation status can change, so check the linked support article for its current status.
Check your mode, device, and exact symptom
Before changing settings, identify whether sprint fails, slide fails, or both. Also note whether you are in Build Mode, Creative, or another mode, and whether you use a controller or keyboard and mouse. Fortnite’s available controls differ by mode and input device; Epic’s controls guidance directs players to the controls tab that matches their setup.

- Open Fortnite’s settings and select the controls tab for your input device.
- Check the selected mode’s controls and confirm sprint and slide have usable bindings.
- Look for custom bindings that assign the same input to conflicting actions.
Look for custom-binding conflicts or reset controls
Epic documents a separate interaction problem when Sprint and Use are assigned to the same input. If those actions share a key or button, try restoring default key binds, as Epic recommends for that conflict. This is a useful check, not evidence that the conflict explains every slide problem. If the problem began after an update, inspect your bindings again. Epic says some keybindings can reset after updates and advises adjusting them manually in settings. Its keybind-reset guidance covers that possibility.

If it happens only in Creative
Creative islands can control movement rules, including whether sliding is allowed. Ask the island creator or check the island’s movement settings for Allow Sliding. Epic documents this setting in its Creative island settings guide. It applies to Creative island settings; do not assume it is a universal Battle Royale toggle.

The Epic guidance cited here does not identify reinstalling Fortnite, replacing a controller, or buying an accessory as fixes for this movement symptom.
