Epic has retired three specific experiences—not Fortnite as a whole. Ballistic and Festival Battle Stage went offline on April 16, while Rocket Racing was removed on October 1. Fortnite Festival continues, and some related tools and cosmetics remain usable.
Which Fortnite modes were removed in 2026?
Epic’s current support notice lists three retired experiences. The April removals happened together; Rocket Racing followed in October.

| Experience | Removal date | What remains |
|---|---|---|
| Ballistic | April 16, 2026 | Epic says first-person shooter tools remain available in UEFN. |
| Festival Battle Stage | April 16, 2026, with release 40.20 | Festival Main Stage and Jam Stage remain available. |
| Rocket Racing | October 1, 2026 | Customized cars remain usable in Fortnite. UEFN islands made with Rocket Racing templates are unpublished and no longer playable. |
Is Fortnite Festival ending?
No. Epic’s Festival clarification says Main Stage and Jam Stage remain available, and that Epic will continue improving those modes and music features across Fortnite. Battle Stage’s retirement affects that competitive mode, not Festival as a whole.
What happens to Rocket Racing cars and UEFN islands?
Rocket Racing itself is no longer available. Islands built with Rocket Racing templates in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) have been unpublished and cannot be played. Epic says customized cars remain usable in Fortnite, so the removal does not mean those car customizations disappear from the wider game.

Why is Epic retiring these experiences?
Epic’s support notice says it cannot share further details about the decisions. In a March 24, 2026 report, PC Gamer attributed a broader explanation to Epic: “we’ve built a lot of Fortnite modes, and in some cases we failed to build something awesome enough to attract and retain a large player base.” That is a general explanation, not a separate stated reason for each mode’s removal.
Quick Recap

- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
