Fortnite Sprites, Boons, and “Sprite Towers” Explained

Fortnite’s Runners used Extraction Sites to bank Sprites, while Chapter 6 Season 1 used Sprite Shrines to grant Boons. Official sources do not confirm “Sprite Towers” as a feature name.

Fortnite’s Sprites are season-specific helpers tied to powers and progression, but “Sprite Towers” is not an established name in the official material reviewed. The current Chapter 7 system uses Extraction Sites; Sprite Shrines and Boons belong to a documented Chapter 6 Season 1 system. The distinction matters: extracting a Sprite banks it for future matches, while bringing one to a Shrine once granted a Boon.

What are Sprites in Fortnite?

Sprites are collectible helpers that can grant abilities when found and equipped. Epic says Sprites are not available in competitive modes (Epic support).

Their abilities and collection systems change by season. In Chapter 7 Season 3: Runners, players could extract Sprites, earn Sprite Dust, and progress their collection. Epic says Sprites continue into Chapter 7 Season 4 with a new generation, so the Runners roster below is a season-specific example, not a definitive list of current abilities (Epic support).

How do you extract a Sprite?

In the Chapter 7 Season 3: Runners system described in Epic’s v41.00 notes, extraction turns a match pickup into a Sprite in your Collection for future matches.

  1. Find a Sprite during a match.
  2. Reach an Extraction Site with it.
  3. Defend the pickup until the timer finishes and the Sprite is banked.

If you are eliminated before banking it, the Sprite remains on the battlefield for another player. A successful extraction awards Sprite Dust. Epic says Dust can be spent to summon a previously extracted Sprite at the start of a match or upgrade Sprite powers and loot. Sprite leveling can also come from exploration, eliminations, and extraction; mastering a Sprite unlocks progression rewards (Epic v41.00 update notes).

What does each Fortnite Sprite do?

Epic’s v41.00 Runners notes describe the following season-specific examples. These effects should not be assumed to remain unchanged in later seasons.

Runners Sprite Documented effect
Earth Can increase the chance of finding additional rare items in Chests.
Fire Creates a fiery burst after enough damage is dealt to an enemy.
Water Replenishes shields while the player and nearby squad are in water.
Duck Replenishes shields through emotes or jamming.
Ghost Grants a temporary cloak on reload.
Demon Siphons some Health and Shields on elimination.
King Increases Pickaxe damage.
Dream Grants a random item at each level and legendary loot at maximum level.
Punk Epic’s description is deliberately enigmatic; a specific effect is not stated.
Zero Point Spawns a Shield Bubble Jr. when the player uses a healing item on themself.

Epic says Runners Sprites collected in Season 3 are showcased in a Sprite Garden in Chapter 7 Season 4. Players can play with them, visit friends’ garden sanctuaries, and show their collection (Epic support).

How did Sprite Shrines and Boons work?

Sprite Shrines and Boons are documented in Epic’s Chapter 6 Season 1 announcement. That is a historical system, distinct from the Runners extraction loop.

In Chapter 6 Season 1, players brought a Sprite to a forgotten Sprite Shrine to revitalize it and receive a Boon. The same announcement described three Sprite interactions: Air could be thrown to create an updraft vortex, Water could be thrown to create a healing fountain, and Earth consumed items fed to it in exchange for a reward.

Chapter 6 Season 1 Boon Documented effect
Fire Boon Increased weapon reload speed.
Void Boon Revealed nearby players after eliminations.
Wind Boon Increased movement speed while the Pickaxe was equipped.
Water Boon Granted Health and Shields while swimming to the player and nearby swimming squadmates.

Epic’s announcement said Boons could drop from bosses or be found in Chests, were consumed on pickup, and persisted after elimination. Those details describe Chapter 6 Season 1; they do not establish current Chapter 7 values (Epic Chapter 6 Season 1 announcement).

How are the Runners and Shrine systems different?

System Season documented Interaction Reward Persistence described by Epic
Sprite extraction Chapter 7 Season 3: Runners Carry a found Sprite to an Extraction Site and defend the pickup until the timer ends. Banked Sprite for the Collection, Sprite Dust, and progression toward powers and loot upgrades. Banked Sprites could be used in future matches; Epic says Season 3 collections are showcased in a Chapter 7 Season 4 Sprite Garden.
Sprite Shrine Chapter 6 Season 1 Bring a Sprite to a forgotten Shrine to revitalize it. A Boon. Epic said Boons persisted after elimination.

What are Sprite Towers in Fortnite?

Epic’s official material reviewed here does not define a Fortnite Battle Royale mechanic called “Sprite Towers.” The closest named feature in the documented Sprite-and-Boon system is the Chapter 6 Season 1 Sprite Shrine. The Chapter 7 Season 3 Runners notes instead describe Extraction Sites. There is not enough official information to treat “Sprite Tower” as another name for either feature or to give tower locations, interactions, or rewards.

Are Sprite events and abilities still current?

They can change by season. Epic’s Runners events page listed Mastery Mondays, Thursdays for a new Sprite or variant, and Saturday Power Hours at 3:30 PM and 9:30 PM ET. It also described Monday bonuses including more frequent Legendary and Mythic Sprites, twice-fast leveling, and double Sprite Dust from extractions. The page warns that weekly modifiers and Sprites change, so those dates, times, and bonuses should be checked against current official channels rather than treated as a standing schedule (Epic Runners weekly events).
