Fortnite update 30.20 is best known for launching Fortnite Reload on June 22, 2024: a 40-player Battle Royale and Zero Build mode built around compact matches and automatic team reboots. Epic’s available official announcements confirm Reload’s launch rules and a June 27 addition of Duos, but they do not provide a complete Battle Royale changelog for every change in v30.20.
What changed in Fortnite update 30.20?
The headline Battle Royale addition was Fortnite Reload, which Epic announced and launched on June 22, 2024. Epic described it as a 40-player mode available in both Battle Royale and Zero Build. Its smaller island used familiar locations including Tilted Towers and Retail Row, with squad survival and reboots at the center of play.

Reload’s core rule was that an eliminated player could return automatically as long as at least one teammate remained alive. Epic’s announcement put it simply: “Squaddies reboot in Fortnite Reload, so long as one member of the team remains.” This was a Reload-specific mechanic, not a general change to standard Battle Royale rules.
The confirmed information here is an overview of Epic’s official Reload and ecosystem announcements, not a complete list of every client change in v30.20. Epic’s separate Fortnite Ecosystem v30.20 post covers Creative and UEFN rather than a full Battle Royale balance-and-fixes changelog.

How did Reload reboot timers work?
Squads at launch
In the June 22 launch rules, a Squad member’s reboot timer started at 30 seconds and increased to 40 seconds later in a match. Teammates could shorten a player’s timer by dealing with opponents. Reboots eventually stopped as the match progressed; if every member of a team was eliminated, that team was out.
Duos added on June 27
Reload launched in Squads, then added Duos on June 27, 2024. Duo reboot timers started at 12 seconds and scaled to 16 seconds later in a match. The surviving teammate could reduce the timer through opponent knockdowns, eliminations, or a duo wipe.

The compact island had no drivable vehicles, according to Epic’s launch post. The announcement also highlighted familiar locations such as Tilted Towers and Retail Row.
What launch rewards did Epic announce?
Epic’s June 22 announcement described introductory Reload quests that awarded 20,000 XP each. Completing three, six, and nine quests unlocked cosmetic rewards, and earning a Victory Royale awarded The Rezzbrella Glider. Those details describe the launch promotion; they should not be read as confirmation that the quests or rewards remain available now.

What was in the separate Ecosystem v30.20 update?
Epic published its Ecosystem v30.20 post on June 22, separately from Reload’s Battle Royale announcement. It concerned Creative and UEFN, including community bug fixes, Nitrodrome prefabs and galleries, a Heavy Impact Sniper Rifle for creator use, documentation updates, two Talisman templates, and a Speedway Race with Verse Persistence template. The post directs creators to the detailed ecosystem release notes.
Do not treat those creator-facing additions as Battle Royale patch notes. Likewise, Metallica content such as its Battle Royale POI and Ride the Lightning item arrived in v30.10, according to Epic’s June 12, 2024 announcement; it was not a new v30.20 addition.

Is this the complete Fortnite v30.20 changelog?
No complete Battle Royale balance and bug-fix changelog is established by the official sources cited here. The Battle Royale news archive provides June 2024 archive context, while Epic’s v30.20 ecosystem post is explicitly about Creative and UEFN. The safest confirmed summary is therefore that Reload was the major announced Battle Royale addition, Duos followed five days later, and the ecosystem update covered creator tools and content.
