FRONT MISSION 3: Remake has received mixed reviews: Metacritic lists a 66 Metascore from 14 Nintendo Switch critic reviews, while Switch Scores gives it a 6.00/10 average from a separate set of seven linked reviews. Critics tend to praise its tactical combat and story, but some fault its visuals, technical polish, and limited changes from the original. That makes it a more straightforward recommendation for newcomers to the tactical RPG than for players hoping for a substantial reinvention.
How critics rated FRONT MISSION 3: Remake
| Source | Rating | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Metacritic | 66/100 | Metascore from 14 Nintendo Switch critic reviews; the page classifies it as “Mixed or Average” and shows 5 positive, 8 mixed, and 1 negative review. Accessed 2026. |
| Switch Scores | 6.00/10 | Average from seven linked critic reviews, with listed scores from 3.0 to 7.5. This is a different review set from Metacritic. Accessed 2026. |
The two aggregates point in the same broad direction—reviews are divided—but they are not interchangeable. Each counts a different group of reviews, so the scores should be read as separate snapshots rather than combined into a single rating.

What reviewers like—and what they do not
Metacritic’s displayed review excerpts suggest that the remake’s core appeal remains its turn-based Wanzer combat, customization, and story. The reservations are about how much has changed and how well the new presentation holds together. These are individual critics’ assessments, not a guarantee of how every player will experience the game.
| Outlet and score | Positive impressions | Criticism in the excerpt |
|---|---|---|
| Universo Nintendo — 85 | Describes a faster experience with enhanced visuals and better performance, and says the game remains fun and challenging. | Says it adds little new content compared with earlier remakes. |
| COGconnected — 80 | Praises combat, Wanzer customization, and the story. | Flags visual oddities and stutter in cutscenes. |
| Video Chums — 75 | Considers the gameplay modernization reasonable. | Criticizes downgraded visual assets. |
| Cubed3 — 70 | Calls the remake faithful and smoother in some respects. | Raises concerns about RNG and restrictions on party size. |
| Vandal — 60 | Praises the complex mech tactical system and politically charged story. | Criticizes the Spanish translation and limited innovation. |
The excerpts show why the remake can appeal to one player and disappoint another: its tactical foundations and narrative still attract praise, while its visual choices and modest scope are recurring points of friction. The cited scores are those assigned by the outlets and listed on Metacritic.

What kind of game is it?
Nintendo describes FRONT MISSION 3: Remake as a single-player tactical RPG. You command Kazuki Takemura and his squad in turn-based battles using Wanzers, the game’s mechs. An early story choice sends the campaign down one of two routes: one focuses on Kazuki’s sister Alisa, while the other follows Emma Klamsky and an investigation into the M.I.D.A.S. weapon project. Nintendo frames the routes around loyalty, family, and the ethics of technology.
What the remake changes
Nintendo advertises updated graphics and animations, reorchestrated music, Wanzer camouflage customization, and a Quick Combat mode. Those features add presentation and convenience options, but the critical excerpts do not suggest a broad redesign or a large amount of new content. If you already know the original, the key question is whether those updates and a smoother or faster-feeling experience are enough for another run; the reviews do not establish that the remake supersedes the original in every respect.

Release and platform details
| Platform and listing | Release information | Other listed details |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch, Nintendo UK | 26 June 2025 | Listed as download software. The UK page names Forever Entertainment as publisher and MegaPixel Studio as developer. It lists PEGI 16, strong violence, a 5.2 GB download, and English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Chinese language support. These are regional storefront details. |
| PS4 and PS5, US PlayStation Store | January 30, 2026 | The store lists free demos for both platforms and a player rating of 4.1 out of 5 from 672 ratings when accessed in 2026. That player-rating count is a volatile snapshot, not a critic score. |
The Nintendo UK listing identifies the Switch product as a download; that alone does not establish whether a physical edition is available elsewhere, including in the US. Likewise, the available store information does not establish Switch 2 performance or the game’s current patch status.
For controllers, Nintendo lists Switch Pro Controller compatibility, and the PlayStation Store lists DualSense vibration support. Neither listing says these controllers are required.

Who should consider buying it?
- New to FRONT MISSION 3: The reviews point to a substantial tactical RPG foundation, with mech customization and a story split across two routes. The mixed aggregate scores indicate that presentation and polish may not satisfy everyone.
- Returning to the original: Expect updates to graphics, animations, music, and convenience features, but do not assume a major expansion. Critics have specifically questioned how much new content the remake adds.
- Focused on visual polish or localization: Read the criticisms with your priorities in mind. Some reviewers object to the visual presentation or cutscene stutter, and Vandal called out the Spanish translation; those are outlet-specific judgments rather than universal findings.
