What Fortnite v30.10 added
Epic announced the update on June 13, 2024, with Metallica featured across several Fortnite experiences. The Festival received a new season and competitive mode, LEGO Fortnite gained two world options, and Battle Royale and Rocket Racing each received Metallica-themed content.

- Fortnite Festival: Season 4 began, featuring all four members of Metallica and the new Battle Stage.
- Battle Royale: Epic announced a point of interest inspired by Metallica’s M72 World Tour. The announcement does not give its name or further details.
- LEGO Fortnite: Cozy Mode and Expert Mode arrived, offering gentler guided play or a more challenging survival experience.
- Rocket Racing: A new Metallica-themed track was announced; Epic’s announcement does not describe its mechanics.
How Festival’s Battle Stage worked
Battle Stage turned Festival’s music performance format into a public competition. Matches began with up to 16 players and ran through a four-song set. After each song, the four lowest-scoring players were eliminated; play continued until one player remained.
Players selected a song part and difficulty on the same featured track. Epic said players could not choose Jam Tracks they owned in public matches, to avoid giving anyone an advantage. The Battle Stage was intended to remain available after Season 4. Epic also described private matches for parties of up to four, a separate format from the public matches of up to 16.

What changed in Festival Season 4
Season 4 featured James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo. Epic’s Festival announcement also listed several gameplay and interface changes:
- Owned Jam Tracks could be used as Lobby Tracks.
- Pro Lead and Pro Bass received changes to fret forgiveness and visible bindings.
- Players could deploy Overdrive during breaks between songs.
- “Master of Puppets” was among the named Metallica tracks.
Epic initially wrote that Season 4 would end August 16, 2024, at 12 AM ET, then updated the announcement to give the final end time as August 15, 2024, at 11 PM ET. The corrected time is the one to use when referring to the season schedule.

LEGO Fortnite Cozy Mode vs. Expert Mode

These were announced world options, not Festival match rules: the Battle Stage’s player limits and elimination format do not apply to LEGO Fortnite. Epic’s LEGO Fortnite announcement describes the modes and their intended contrast.
When the Metallica music experience took place
Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury. was a separate, later event associated with the update—not a June 13 launch-day activity. Epic scheduled it for June 22 and 23, 2024, with three showtimes on each day. It was described as an experience through six Metallica songs, available in Discover for 30 minutes at each showtime, with parties of up to four. Those dates have passed.

Why some reports called it “Update 4.28”
A secondary MP1st report used “4.28” in its console-download coverage. Epic’s official materials call the game update v30.10; the available official information does not confirm a platform-by-platform mapping between 4.28 and v30.10. For the content and features, v30.10 is the official version label.
