Epic’s announcement details Reload’s launch rules, selected loot and introductory rewards—but it is not a full Battle Royale changelog, and the available official sources do not establish what “Update 4.29” refers to.
What Fortnite Reload added at launch
Epic announced Reload as a 40-player experience on a smaller map with familiar locations such as Tilted Towers and Retail Row. It was playable in Battle Royale or Zero Build, and the last squad standing won. A complete team wipe ended a squad’s run. These are launch details from Epic’s June 22, 2024 Reload announcement.

The mode emphasized quick, on-foot encounters. Epic said there were no drivable vehicles because the compact island was easy to cross on foot. The announcement also highlighted a selection of returning weapons and items rather than documenting a comprehensive Battle Royale loot or balance update.
How the launch reboot rules worked
In the launch Squads rules, an eliminated player began an individual reboot timer while at least one teammate remained alive. A downed player could start that timer immediately rather than wait to be revived. The timer started at 30 seconds and could scale to 40 seconds later in a match.

- Downing an opponent shortened the timer by 2 seconds.
- Eliminating an opponent shortened it by 4 seconds.
- Wiping an opposing squad shortened it by 10 seconds.
- Reboots stopped toward the end of a match.

Launch loot and what returning players carried
Epic’s examples of Reload launch loot included the Revolver, Tactical Shotgun, Lever Action Shotgun, OG Heavy Shotgun, Tactical Submachine Gun, Infantry Rifle, Heavy Assault Rifle, Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher and Grappler. The announcement also said players could earn Victory Crowns.

A rebooted player returned with a common Assault Rifle and, in Build, 100 wood. Eliminated players dropped specified ammunition and Small Shield Potions, plus building materials in Build, along with their inventory. These are descriptions of the launch setup; the announcement does not establish the current loot pool.
Launch quests and Victory Royale reward
For the introductory quests announced at launch, each quest rewarded 20,000 XP. Completing three quests unlocked the Digital Dogfight Contrail; six unlocked the Pool Cubes Wrap; and nine unlocked the NaNa Bath Back Bling. Epic also said a Victory Royale awarded the Rezzbrella Glider. These were launch rewards, not confirmation that the quests or rewards remain available now.

How Reload relates to Fortnite v30.20
Epic published a separate Fortnite Ecosystem v30.20 announcement on June 22, 2024. Its subject was Creative and UEFN, including creator-facing updates and fixes, new prefabs and galleries from Battle Royale’s Nitrodrome, a Heavy Impact Sniper Rifle addition for creators, documentation updates, two Talisman templates and a Speedway Race template. Epic directed readers to full UEFN release notes.
That Ecosystem post is not a comprehensive Battle Royale patch changelog. The official sources cited here do not explain the “Update 4.29” wording in the headline, so it should not be treated as an established Fortnite version number or equated with v30.20.

Squads and the later Duos announcement
Reload’s June 22 launch announcement covered Squads. Epic’s June 27, 2024 search-indexed listing for “Fortnite Reload Adds Duos!” said the mode then supported Duos as well as Squads. The listing gave Duos reboot timers of 12 seconds, scaling to 16 seconds later in the match, and said values could change based on monitoring and feedback. Because the direct page was not available for verification here, treat those exact Duos timer figures as provisional rather than as confirmed current rules.
