No: Fortnite v40.10 is not a new update dropping today, October 8, 2026. Epic’s dated release notes identify v40.10 as an April 1, 2026 release and list v42.30, released October 1, as the newer ecosystem update. Epic’s Fortnite OG channel does mention Marvel: Endgame returning for OG Season 8, but that is not confirmation that the full original Chapter 1 Season 8 has relaunched with v40.10.
Is Fortnite v40.10 dropping today?
No. Epic’s official v40.10 ecosystem release notes are dated April 1, 2026, while its v42.30 notes identify October 1, 2026 as that update’s release date. So v40.10 is a historical version, not an October 8 launch. Epic’s reviewed official sources do not establish a v40.10 update today or a full original Season 8 return tied to that version.

The official v40.10 notes are available in Japanese; the English-language URL was surfaced but could not be fetched. The date is supported by the Japanese official notes. Epic’s v42.30 notes describe creator and ecosystem changes including a conversations template for LLM-powered characters, carryable non-weapon items, in-editor Content Pre-Checks, analytics benchmarks, Witch Broom, and Slap Candy Corn. What does “Chapter 1 Season 8 returns” refer to?
There are two different Season 8 contexts. Fortnite OG is Epic’s ongoing Chapter 1 experience, with rotating seasons; the original Battle Royale Season 8 was a 2019 season. A reference to an event in OG Season 8 should not be read as confirmation that the original season has returned in full.

| Context | What the official source establishes | Date and scope |
|---|---|---|
| Original Chapter 1 Season 8 | Epic’s retrospective announcement describes the volcano, Lazy Lagoon, Sunny Steps, pirates and ninjas, and that season’s Battle Pass. | Announced February 28, 2019; a historical full Battle Royale season. |
| Fortnite OG Season 8 | Epic’s Fortnite OG channel says Marvel: Endgame returned until April 16 for OG Season 8. | A limited-time event reference on the OG island; it does not establish that the original season relaunched. |
Epic describes Fortnite OG as “BACK and here to stay,” with players able to drop into Chapter 1. Its store listing says OG seasons last approximately two months. That rotating OG format is distinct from a claim that the entire 2019 season, with its original season structure and content, has returned. See Epic’s Fortnite OG listing.
What was in the original Chapter 1 Season 8?
Epic announced the original season on February 28, 2019. Its retrospective points to the volcano, new locations Lazy Lagoon and Sunny Steps, pirate and ninja themes, and a season-specific Battle Pass. These are historical details about the original 2019 season, not evidence that those features are returning with v40.10. Read Epic’s original Season 8 announcement.
