Epic did not give a separate launch clock time in that announcement. The event has ended.
When did Fortnite Winterfest 2024 start and end?
Epic published its Winterfest announcement on December 20, 2024, saying the event was live and would run until January 7, 2025, at 9 AM ET. That establishes December 20 as the announced live-date context, not a precise start time. The event is no longer running.
What could players do in the Winterfest Cabin?
Players could open the Snowflake tab in the Lobby of any Fortnite experience to enter the returning Winterfest Cabin. Epic said a new present could be opened each day through the event’s end. Presents included Outfits, Back Blings, Pickaxes, Gliders, and other items.
Players who did not want to open presents could relax by the cabin fire and earn bonus XP. The cabin’s presents and fire XP were event activities; Epic’s announcement did not say that Item Shop purchases were required to participate.

What Winterfest gameplay features appeared on the island?
Some parts of the Battle Royale island received snowy weather. Epic associated Mariah Carey with the snowfall and described two winter items that could be found in Chests until the event ended:
- Blizzard Grenades: Swept affected opponents into a blizzard that slowed their movement and dealt damage.
- Icy Feet: Enabled fast movement, including across water.
Sgt. Winter also assigned Wintervestigation quests. Completing each quest awarded XP. Epic said gameplay features introduced for Winterfest would not be included in tournaments.

Were Winterfest presents free, and what was in the Item Shop?
The cabin presents and fire XP were part of the event, while Epic listed separate digital Item Shop offerings, including Mariah Carey, Santa Shaq, Guffmas Tree, Snowy Ops, and Snoop Dogg | Cadillac. Those cosmetics were distinct from the cabin presents; the announcement did not say they were necessary for event participation.
Epic cautioned that cabin-present items were not exclusive to Winterfest 2024 and might become purchasable in the Item Shop later. As Epic put it in its December 20, 2024 announcement, “All of the items inside presents are not exclusive to Winterfest 2024, as they may become purchasable in the Shop at a later date.” That statement was a possibility, not confirmation that any particular item is available now.
