When the boss was knocked or eliminated, contemporary gaming reports said he briefly grabbed his knee in pain—a gag they connected to a memorable Family Guy scene. Epic confirmed Peter’s role in the season, but did not explain the animation or its inspiration.
When did Peter Griffin come to Fortnite?
Epic Games announced Peter Griffin as one of five island bosses in its December 3, 2023, Chapter 5 Season 1 announcement. The same announcement listed “Freakin’ Sweet! Peter Griffin” as a Battle Pass Outfit.
The published Battle Pass progression window ended March 8, 2024, at 2 AM ET. That announcement documents the historical season and Outfit; it does not establish that the old Battle Pass can still be unlocked, that the Outfit is currently in the Item Shop, or that it can be resold.
What is Peter Griffin’s hurt-knee animation?
Reports published at the season’s launch described a short, distinctive reaction when Peter was knocked or eliminated as a boss: he grabbed his knee and appeared to react in pain. Ricky Frech’s December 3, 2023, ComicBook.com report identified it as an echo of the knee gag in “Wasted Talent,” Family Guy Season 2, episode 20. Luis Joshua Gutierrez’s GameSpot report, also published December 3, noted that players spotted the gag when Peter died.

The connection to “Wasted Talent” is the reporters’ interpretation of the animation, not a stated explanation from Epic. Epic’s season announcement confirms Peter as a boss and Outfit but does not describe the animation or say what inspired it.
How the Fortnite rumor became a meme
The crossover had a long pre-release life online. Know Your Meme’s retrospective account says memes about Peter Griffin being added to Fortnite were popularized in 2018, continued in later years, and drew renewed attention around a December 2023 leak. That chronology helps explain why the official Chapter 5 Season 1 reveal—and the small animation detail—resonated with people already joking about Peter joining the game.
