A portrait of Apu in Moe’s Tavern during Fortnite’s 2025 Simpsons season showed him with the same yellow skin tone as Homer, Barney and Principal Skinner. After players accused the image of whitewashing the character, Epic Games said the mismatch was not intentional and would be adjusted in a future release. The available reports do not confirm whether or when that adjustment shipped.
What sparked the accusation?
The controversy centered on a Be Sharps portrait displayed inside Moe’s Tavern. In that image, Apu appeared with the yellow skin tone used for Homer, Barney and Principal Skinner, rather than his familiar television appearance. GameSpot reported that a separate image of Apu in the tavern showed him in that familiar appearance, making the contrast between the two pictures especially noticeable. GameSpot’s November 6, 2025 report covers both images.
Observers described the disputed portrait as whitewashing. That is an accusation about how the image looked; the reporting does not establish that Epic intentionally changed Apu’s identity, removed him from the game, or altered his appearance throughout the season. The evidence concerns a portrait-level discrepancy.
What did Epic say?
According to GameSpot and VideoGamer, Epic responded through its Fortnite Status account on November 6, 2025: “This wasn’t intentional. It’s being adjusted in our next release.” VideoGamer’s updated report also quotes the statement.

- 4 points of articulation

Epic’s wording says the image was not intentional and promises an adjustment in a future release. Neither report establishes the release date of a correction or confirms that the revised artwork went live, so it is not possible to say from these accounts that the portrait was fixed.
Was Apu removed from Fortnite’s Simpsons season?
No. The reports describe Apu appearing in Moe’s Tavern, including in the disputed Be Sharps portrait and in a separate image showing his familiar appearance. They do not report that Apu was removed from the season.

- The Simpsons 5" Krusty Collectible Action Figure
Fortnite’s Simpsons season launched on November 1, 2025. Epic described it as an 80-player Springfield Island Battle Royale experience with a Simpsons Battle Pass and weekly animated shorts. GameSpot said the season was scheduled to run through November 29, 2025, so this was a historical event, not a season that should be described as currently live. Epic’s launch details are in its November 1, 2025 season announcement.

GameSpot connected the reaction to the wider sensitivity around Apu’s portrayal, mentioning the documentary The Problem with Apu and Hank Azaria’s decision to stop voicing the character. That context helps explain why the portrait attracted scrutiny, but the reported facts about this Fortnite incident remain limited to the image discrepancy and Epic’s response. GameSpot’s report provides that brief background.
