If you can’t join a friend in Forza Horizon 5, or a Convoy member vanishes after joining, first identify exactly where the connection fails and whether you’re playing across platforms. The game has had developer-confirmed Convoy and player-visibility problems in the past, but those historical fixes don’t establish the cause or current status of a problem you’re seeing now. Check current Forza notices, follow the official cross-play guide if relevant, and contact Forza Support if its steps don’t resolve the issue.
Identify what is failing
Before changing settings, pin down the symptom and platform combination. “Can’t join” can mean the invitation never appears, accepting it does nothing, or the friend joins but is invisible or disappears later. Those are different failure points, and none alone proves that your router or another piece of hardware is at fault.
- Platform setup: Are both players on the same platform, or is this cross-play?
- Invitation: Is the Convoy invitation missing, or does it arrive but fail to open a session?
- Visibility: Does the friend join but remain invisible, or appear and then disappear?
- Who is affected: Is one player unable to join, or are both friends having trouble?
Use these details when checking support information or reporting the problem; they help distinguish an invite issue from a session-join or visibility issue.
Check current official information
Look for current Forza Support notices before making network changes. The available official support FAQ says Forza Horizon 5 continues to be supported, but it does not confirm Convoy service health or identify a current Convoy bug. A live outage or known issue therefore cannot be confirmed from that FAQ alone. Forza Support

There is a documented history of game-side Convoy problems. In its December 2, 2021 community update, Playground Games acknowledged reports of friends disappearing from Convoys or failing to reach the same Horizon Life server. The update described the experience this way: “There’s nothing more disappointing than going on a road-trip with your friends and seeing them all disappear.” Forza community update, December 2, 2021
On December 14, 2021, a hotfix addressed an issue that sometimes prevented a player from joining another player’s server while initiating a Convoy. The notes also said one invisibility issue had been addressed while further work to improve disappearing-player behavior continued. If you’re playing across platforms
Use Forza’s official cross-play instructions rather than relying on steps repeated in player discussions. A Forza developer response in a PC-to-PS5 cross-play discussion directs players to the official guide, then recommends filing a support ticket if the guide does not fix the issue. The guide’s actual requirements and steps should be followed as published; they are not reproduced here because they were not available in the referenced discussion. - Record the failure precisely. Note each player’s platform, whether cross-play is involved, whether the invite appears, what happens when it is accepted, and whether anyone becomes invisible or disappears.
- Follow the applicable official guidance. For cross-play, use the Forza cross-play guide. For other Convoy problems, check current Forza Support information rather than assuming an old fix or a community workaround still applies.
- Submit a Forza Support ticket if the official steps fail. Include the details you recorded so Support can understand which stage is failing.
Player discussions contain individual reports and suggested workarounds, but the available evidence does not validate a universal sequence of changing modes, restarting, adjusting router options, or repeatedly sending invitations. Nor does it establish that buying a router, Ethernet cable, headset, or other hardware will fix the issue.
