Forza Horizon 6 is a Japan-set open-world racing game that launched for Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026. Premium Edition early access began May 15. Its map brings together Tokyo City, rural landscapes and mountain roads in a designed interpretation of Japan—not a one-to-one recreation. The campaign starts you as a tourist working toward a place at the Horizon Festival.
When did Forza Horizon 6 release, and where can you play it?

What parts of Japan are in Forza Horizon 6?
The game’s Japan is a stylized, varied driving world rather than a literal map of the country. Playground Games described an intended contrast between dense Tokyo City, rural environments and mountain areas. The map reveal names routes inspired by Tokyo’s C1 loop and Gingko Avenue, and mountain passes including Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma. It also highlights seasonal changes and contrasting modern and traditional settings. The Xbox Wire interview with Art Director Don Arceta and Cultural Consultant Kyoko Yamashita explains the team’s approach; the full map reveal lists the named routes and environments.

Arceta said the goal was “to capture the country’s unique cultural essence” in the game’s style, rather than recreate Japan like for like. Yamashita pointed to the coexistence of traditional and contemporary places, such as a neighborhood shrine, a small workshop and a neon arcade on the same block. Playground said its team traveled to Japan and consulted Yamashita during development.
How does the campaign work?
You arrive as a tourist, not as an established Horizon champion. The progression described by Playground begins with Horizon Qualifiers. Completing races and events earns Wristbands that advance your standing and open further festival activities.
