Forza Horizon 6 on PC requires a 64-bit Windows 10 installation (version 22H2, build 19045, or newer) or a compatible newer Windows release, 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, broadband internet, 167 GB of free space on an SSD, and at least an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 paired with an NVIDIA GTX 1650, AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT, or Intel Arc A380. The recommended tier raises the target to an Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X and an NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, or Intel Arc A580. Steam does not attach a guaranteed frame rate, resolution, or quality preset to either tier, so use the game’s live settings preview and benchmark to tune your own system.

Forza Horizon 6 PC requirements at a glance

Steam’s 2026 listing gives one minimum configuration and one recommended configuration. Both tiers share the operating-system, memory, storage, internet, and graphics-API requirements below. The difference is the processor and graphics-card class.

Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10 22H2 (version 19045) or higher, 64-bit Windows 10 22H2 (version 19045) or higher, 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
Memory 16 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT, or Intel Arc A380 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, or Intel Arc A580
Graphics API DirectX 12 DirectX 12
Storage 167 GB available space on an SSD 167 GB available space on an SSD
Internet Broadband internet connection Broadband internet connection

These are published entry and higher-tier configurations, not benchmark results. A computer that clears minimum is inside the supported floor; it is not automatically a 60-frame-per-second machine. Likewise, the recommended list is not a promise of 4K, a particular preset, or a fixed frame rate. Your monitor resolution, background applications, driver version, ray tracing, and upscaling choice all change the result.

Does your PC meet the minimum?

Check the operating system and memory

  • Open Windows Settings and check the system’s edition and version. The Steam requirement is Windows 10 version 22H2, build 19045, or newer, with a 64-bit operating system.
  • Verify that the machine has at least 16 GB of system RAM. Having less than the listed amount puts the computer below the published floor even if the processor and graphics card are fast enough.
  • Keep enough free SSD capacity for the 167 GB installation. The requirement is available space, not the drive’s advertised total capacity; leave additional room for Windows, updates, and other games.

Identify the processor and graphics card

In Windows, Task Manager’s Performance tab shows the installed CPU, memory, and GPU model. Compare the exact model, not just the product family. For example, a card marketed under a similar name may use a different architecture or have substantially different memory and power characteristics.

The minimum CPU choices are the Core i5-8400 and Ryzen 5 1600. The minimum GPU choices are the GTX 1650, Radeon RX 6500 XT, and Arc A380. If either the processor or graphics card falls below its corresponding published class, treat the system as below minimum regardless of the other component.

What the recommended tier means

The recommended CPU choices—Core i5-12400F and Ryzen 5 5600X—are newer, higher-performance parts than the minimum processors. The recommended GPU choices—RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT, and Arc A580—are also a higher listed class than the minimum cards. This tier gives the game more hardware headroom for higher rendering resolutions, more demanding effects, or a steadier frame-time target, but Steam does not define those outcomes with a guaranteed number.

Use the recommended list as a comparison point rather than a preset selector. A player on a 1080p display may prioritize stable frame times, while a player using an ultrawide or 4K display asks the GPU to render many more pixels. The same recommended part can therefore require different settings in different systems. CPU-heavy background tasks, cooling, power limits, and driver state can also affect consistency.

Supported platforms and architecture caveats

Windows, Steam Deck, and Linux

In a May 22, 2026 update, Playground Games said Windows 10/11 and Steam Deck are supported. The same update states that Linux is not supported. Steam Deck support does not remove the game’s published PC requirements for a conventional Windows installation; it describes platform compatibility for Valve’s handheld environment.

Graphics architectures that matter

Playground Games identified NVIDIA Turing as the minimum supported NVIDIA architecture. It also said AMD Polaris, AMD Vega, and older AMD architectures will not work. This architecture rule is separate from simply checking a model number, so an older card that appears close to a listed GPU should not be assumed compatible.

The developer also reported PC frame-rate issues on AMD graphics cards in that May 22 update and said fixes were being worked on. That status may change with later patches. If an AMD system performs abnormally, install the current graphics driver and check the latest official game update notes before changing hardware or concluding that the card is unsupported. Playground Games also cautioned that some reported crashes occurred on hardware below minimum specifications or on unsupported operating systems.

Graphics and performance features in the PC version

Playground Games lists uncapped frame rates, 4K HDR output, ultrawide resolutions, and ray-traced reflections and global illumination on compatible GPUs. These are capabilities of the game and supported hardware combinations, not independent measurements of how fast any particular computer will run.

Upscaling, anti-aliasing, and frame generation

Feature Published support What to consider
NVIDIA DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation RTX 50 Series Creates additional displayed frames from rendered frames; test latency and image stability with your own settings.
NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation RTX 40 Series and newer Separate from DLSS Super Resolution; evaluate responsiveness as well as the frame counter.
NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution GeForce RTX cards Renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the output; select a quality level appropriate to your display.
NVIDIA DLAA Supported NVIDIA implementation in the PC feature set Prioritizes anti-aliasing quality rather than reducing render resolution, so it can cost more GPU time than an upscaling mode.
NVIDIA Reflex Supported NVIDIA implementation in the PC feature set Designed to reduce latency; judge the result with your input devices and frame-time behavior.
AMD FSR 4 or FSR 3 Version depends on the GPU Use the version exposed for your hardware and inspect motion clarity, especially around fences, foliage, and fast vehicles.
Intel XeSS 2.1 Supported in the PC feature set Check the available mode on your Arc or other compatible hardware and compare image quality at your normal resolution.

Upscaling lowers the internal rendering workload, while frame generation changes how many frames are displayed. Neither feature creates the same result on every GPU, and a higher displayed frame count does not by itself prove that input latency or image quality improved.

Which settings usually have the biggest performance impact?

Resolution and display mode

Output resolution is often the first GPU workload to examine. Moving from 1080p to ultrawide or 4K increases the number of pixels the graphics card must process. If the game is GPU-limited, test a lower internal resolution or an upscaler before reducing every visual option.

Ray-traced reflections and global illumination

Ray tracing can substantially increase rendering work. Test reflections and global illumination independently if the menu allows it, because one effect may be acceptable while the other causes large frame-time spikes. Keep ray tracing disabled while diagnosing a basic performance problem; re-enable one effect at a time after the baseline is stable.

Other graphics options

Forza Horizon 6 provides many render controls with live previews. Change only a small number at once so you can identify which option affected frame time or image quality. Start with resolution, ray tracing, and upscaling, then work through the remaining quality controls according to what you can visibly tolerate. The game reports real-time video-memory and system-memory usage; watch those indicators for settings that push the computer toward its limits.

A repeatable in-game tuning procedure

  1. Close unnecessary background applications and let Windows finish pending driver or system updates. Record your current resolution, upscaling mode, ray-tracing state, and frame-rate cap, if any.
  2. Open the PC render or graphics settings. Use the live preview where available and note the real-time video-memory and system-memory readings before changing anything.
  3. Run the built-in benchmark with your normal display resolution and a conservative baseline: ray tracing off, then the upscaling mode appropriate to your GPU if you need more headroom.
  4. Change one meaningful variable—such as resolution scale, ray-traced reflections, global illumination, or upscaling quality—while leaving the others unchanged.
  5. Apply the setting without restarting. Playground Games says PC render changes can be made without restarting, so you can compare the result in the same session.
  6. Rerun the benchmark after each meaningful change. Record the result and watch for stutter, memory pressure, visual artifacts, or a frame-time pattern that the average frame count hides.
  7. Once the baseline is consistent, test your actual driving routes. A benchmark is repeatable, but gameplay can expose streaming, traffic, weather, or effects that a short test does not reproduce.
  8. Keep the last stable configuration as a fallback. If a later setting causes crashes or severe stutter, restore that configuration before troubleshooting drivers or hardware.

This process measures your own computer rather than assigning a universal preset. Playground Games states: “Performance will vary based on your setup, background tasks, graphics settings, and the use of ray tracing or upscaling technologies.” The statement appears in its March 25, 2026 PC feature article.

How to troubleshoot poor performance or crashes

First, verify compatibility

  • Confirm Windows is at least the listed Windows 10 22H2 build and is 64-bit.
  • Confirm the game is installed on an SSD with at least 167 GB available at installation time.
  • Compare the exact CPU and GPU models with the minimum table.
  • Check the GPU architecture: NVIDIA Turing is the stated minimum supported NVIDIA architecture, while AMD Polaris, Vega, and older architectures are not supported.
  • If you are using Linux, note that the developer’s May 22, 2026 update lists Linux as unsupported.

Then update software and simplify settings

Install the current graphics driver, restart Windows, and test with ray tracing disabled. Use the benchmark to establish a repeatable baseline before adding frame generation or increasing visual quality. If the issue is specific to an AMD card, consult the newest official update notes because the developer’s reported AMD frame-rate problem was an issue under active investigation on May 22, 2026, not a permanent specification.

Interpret memory warnings carefully

High video-memory or system-memory readings do not automatically mean the game will crash, but they identify settings worth reducing. Lower texture or resolution-related options exposed by the game, close background applications, and rerun the benchmark. If crashes continue on hardware below the published minimum or an unsupported operating system, changing a visual preset cannot make that configuration officially supported.

Should you upgrade storage?

An SSD is a stated requirement, so a system that only has a hard disk does not meet the published specification. Before buying an SSD, check the computer’s form factor, interface, available slot, and capacity, then reserve more than the game’s 167 GB requirement for operating-system and update overhead. The published information establishes the storage requirement; it does not establish that replacing an SSD will increase frame rate.

Controllers and steering wheels

Playground Games says every steering wheel compatible with Forza Horizon 5 is supported in Forza Horizon 6, and controller support carries over from the previous game. These are optional input devices. You do not need a controller or wheel to satisfy the PC CPU, GPU, memory, operating-system, DirectX, internet, or SSD requirements.

What the requirements can—and cannot—tell you

  • They can tell you whether your core hardware and software are at or above the publisher’s listed floor.
  • They can identify a higher listed CPU and GPU tier for players seeking more rendering headroom.
  • They cannot promise 60 FPS, 120 FPS, a specific resolution, or a named quality preset.
  • They cannot predict the effect of background tasks, cooling, driver revisions, ray tracing, upscaling, or frame generation on your particular system.
  • The built-in benchmark, live previews, and memory displays provide the practical evidence needed to choose settings for your own PC.

For a purchase decision, compare your exact processor, graphics card, 16 GB memory capacity, Windows build, DirectX 12 support, and SSD space against the minimum table first. If those checks pass, begin with a simple benchmark baseline and tune toward your display’s resolution and the visual effects you value most.
