The well puzzle requires three loose blocks, a paper sketch, and a correctly aligned four-part image. Using the mooring bollard, inserting the blocks, or rotating them without matching the sketch does not complete it.
Follow the collection route below, check each image landmark, and only treat it as a possible technical issue after confirming that the boat block was actually taken from the boat and every section is aligned.

Identify the correct well puzzle
Two interactions involving blocks can look similar in this part of the game. Applying the wrong solution is the most common reason the objective seems not to advance.
The gold-slot picture puzzle
The puzzle described in this guide is next to a well. Its identifying features are a gold-colored slot containing one picture block, three empty spaces beside it, and a piece of crumpled paper on the rim. Interact with the paper to unfold sketches of the completed image. This puzzle becomes available after the Head statue’s Genesis Configuration sequence and the opening of the gate.

The separate Genesis Configuration route
In the Head-area Labyrinth route, Genesis Configuration raises highlighted blocks for a limited time. You must activate the next highlighted interaction before the route resets. That is a timing challenge. It does not reset or advance the picture sections in the gold slot beside the well, so timing advice for that route will not solve this puzzle.
Complete the well puzzle from start to finish
The slot already contains one block. You must find the other three, place all of them, and rotate the four sections so their visible landmarks reproduce the sketch.
1. Read the paper clue
At the well, interact with the crumpled paper and unfold it. Keep the drawings visible in mind as you travel. They are the reference for the final image, not a hint about the order in which to collect the blocks.
2. Collect the block at the wooden gazebo
Turn away from the well and follow the uphill route to a wooden gazebo. A cultist suspended there has one of the missing blocks. Take the block before returning to the well. Enemies can appear along the route or after a collection, so clear the immediate area if an interaction prompt seems unavailable.
3. Bring in the boat and take its block
At the small pier, use the mooring bollard to draw the boat in. Using the bollard only moves the boat; it does not automatically add the puzzle piece to your inventory. Once the boat is alongside the pier, interact with the boat itself and collect the block.

4. Take the final block from the play park
Go to the children’s play park. The last missing block is held by the cultist on the merry-go-round. Collect it, watching for enemies that may spawn during or immediately after the encounter.
5. Insert all three loose blocks
Return to the well’s gold slot and insert the three blocks you collected. The original block remains in place, giving you four image sections in total. Inserting the pieces fills the mechanism but does not solve it.
6. Rotate the sections individually
Each section can be rotated on its own. Compare the visible scene with the unfolded paper and turn sections until the landmarks line up. There is no documented universal number of turns and no confirmed manual reset sequence; the reliable method is visual matching.
7. Descend and take the objective item
When the complete image matches the sketch, the well opens. Climb down the ladder and collect the Statue’s Tongue piece to continue the objective. If the well has not opened, at least one section is still wrong or one of the required blocks was not actually collected.
Use these four image landmarks to check alignment
The finished display is a single scene split across four sections. Check each section from top to bottom rather than judging only the overall color or cloud pattern.

Color alone is not enough to verify a match because every section contains smoky clouds. The H-shaped path, the large V-shaped opening, and the pair of towers provide better orientation checks.

Work through these checks in order. They target the specific omissions that walkthroughs have identified for this mechanism.
Confirm the mechanism
Stand beside the well and look for the gold slot, the block already installed, three empty positions, and the crumpled paper. If you are interacting with highlighted Genesis Configuration blocks in the Head-area Labyrinth, you are at a different puzzle and need to chain those activations before their route resets.
Unfold the clue again
Interact with the paper and make sure its sketches have been unfolded. Use it as the reference while checking each section. Do not assume that a section is correct because the clouds appear continuous; verify the buildings and paths as well.
Check the boat interaction specifically
The boat is the most easily missed pickup. The required sequence is: use the mooring bollard, wait for the boat to arrive, then interact with the boat and take the block. If you only pulled the boat in, return to the pier and collect the item itself.

Count the installed pieces
There should be four sections visible after the three loose blocks are inserted: the original piece plus the gazebo, boat, and merry-go-round pieces. If a slot is still empty, the image cannot be completed.
Inspect every section, not just the last one moved
A nearly correct scene can still contain one inverted section. Check the top-to-bottom landmarks in the table, especially the H-shaped foreground, the V-shaped cloud opening, and the two towers on the right. Rotate sections one at a time and recheck the full scene after each adjustment.
Do not rely on a fixed rotation count
Available walkthroughs describe rotating until the picture matches; they do not document a button that resets the mechanism or a turn count that works for every state. A memorized sequence can leave one section wrong if you began from a different orientation.

A missing item or incorrect orientation is established by the walkthrough solution. A confirmed, well-specific progression bug is not established by the available reports. Treat the situation as a puzzle-state problem until the collection and alignment checks are complete, then document it as a possible technical issue.

Signs you probably missed a puzzle step
- The boat is at the pier, but you never interacted with the boat after using the bollard.
- One of the three gold-slot spaces is empty.
- You have not unfolded the paper clue.
- The image has the right general cloud pattern but is missing the H-shaped path, the large V-shaped opening, one of the two buildings at the top, or both towers on the bottom right.
- You are trying to use the timed Genesis Configuration route rather than the well’s picture slot.
Signs the game may not be registering a correct solution
- All three loose blocks are visibly installed, the four landmarks match the sketch, and the well remains closed.
- The interaction prompt disappears or becomes unavailable even though the required item is not in the well.
- The objective remains unchanged after you have verified the entire image and confirmed the boat pickup.
These signs do not prove a particular bug or identify a guaranteed reload fix. They indicate that you should preserve evidence and contact support instead of repeatedly rotating sections at random.

What to record before contacting support
If a correctly matched image still will not open the well, make a short video showing the state of the puzzle. Include the following information in the support request:
- Your platform and the game version displayed by the game or platform client.
- The current story objective and the location name, if the game displays one.
- The gold slot with all four sections visible, including the landmarks that match the paper.
- The inventory or interaction showing that you collected the gazebo, boat, and merry-go-round blocks.
- What happens when you rotate a section, interact with the slot, or leave and return to the area.
- Whether the issue persists after closing and relaunching the game, if you have tried that without losing the relevant save.
Use Saber’s official support route or the support channel provided by the platform. In a Steam Community developer response about a separate launch-period progression-blocking report dated October 8, 2026, Saber Help asked the player for a video and support ticket and said the issue would be escalated. That response is useful guidance for documenting a progression problem, but it is not confirmation that the well puzzle has the same defect or that escalation guarantees a fix.
What the available patches and reports do—and do not—show
Saber Interactive’s September 21, 2026 patch notes for the demo list fixes for several movement and environmental softlocks and for incorrect tutorial hints. Those notes are explicitly demo-specific and do not confirm a fix for the released game’s well puzzle.

A launch-period review published by Tom’s Guide on October 9, 2026 described unrelated glitches, including an unresponsive boss that required reloading. That example shows that technical progression problems can occur in the game, but it is not evidence of a well-puzzle bug and should not be used as a promised workaround.
A practical decision path
- Identify the location: verify the gold picture slot beside the well and unfold the paper.
- Collect the three pieces: gazebo cultist, boat after using the bollard, and merry-go-round cultist.
- Verify the count: install all three pieces alongside the block already present.
- Match the image: check the four landmarks from top to bottom and rotate sections individually.
- Test the objective: confirm that the well opens and take the Statue’s Tongue.
- Escalate only after verification: if the complete image does not register, capture the platform, version, objective, and video for Saber support.
This sequence separates a missed pickup or misaligned section from an unconfirmed technical failure without assuming that a reset code, reload, or patch will solve the problem.
