Playground Games also announced a PlayStation 5 release for later in 2026; that was the plan stated at announcement, not confirmation of PS5 availability today. The game’s headline additions include requested livery and paint options, new social driving activities, and more ways to explore its Japan setting.
When did Forza Horizon 6 release, and what platforms is it on?
Playground Games announced May 19, 2026, as the launch date for Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Microsoft Store and Steam. Premium Edition Early Access was scheduled to start May 15. The studio’s January 2026 announcement also said a PS5 version would arrive later that year; check the current PlayStation Store listing for availability rather than treating that earlier plan as confirmation. Playground Games’ release announcement and its FAQ set out those dates and platforms.
The announcement described access through Game Pass Ultimate on Xbox Series X|S, PC Game Pass on PC through the Xbox app, and Xbox Cloud Gaming as part of membership. Catalog availability and subscription terms can change, so check the current offering in your region. A digital Xbox Series X|S or Microsoft Store for Windows purchase was described as supporting Xbox Play Anywhere; Steam was excluded from that arrangement. Playground Games also described cross-play and cross-save across Xbox, PC, Steam and PS5, and separately noted cross-save support on SteamOS handhelds. Consult current platform support information before choosing where to play. The official feature roundup and PC feature article provide those details.
Which player-requested features were added?
More control over liveries, paint and aero
The Livery Editor adds window painting, a long-requested option. Playground Games also described easier choices among gloss, semi-gloss, matte and metallic finishes; the ability to save favorite colors and materials; metal flake and candy paint; and separate customization of aero components. These are announced editor features, not independent measurements of how the tools compare with earlier games. Playground Games’ car-culture feature details the changes.

Car upgrades and driving presentation
The same official feature article describes revised Forza Aero, additional body kits for cars new to Horizon, a new R performance class, and motorcycle engine swaps for Kei cars. It also specifies enhanced steering animations with up to 540 degrees of wheel rotation. Playground Games said the announced launch roster would contain over 550 cars; that is the publisher’s stated count, not an independently audited total.
What new social activities can players do together?
Playground Games announced several shared-world activities and said they would work without matchmaking or loading screens:

How does Forza Horizon 6 change exploration in Japan?
The Xbox Wire preview describes several ways to encounter things beyond standard races. Collectible mascots offer small rewards, while Aftermarket Cars appear in the world as vehicles players can discover and try. The Journal tracks photographs of landmarks and other hotspots, giving exploration a collectible record. Players can also decorate garages in homes they have purchased. Xbox Wire’s April 2026 preview covers these systems.

Design Director Torben Ellert said placing Aftermarket Cars in the open world was intended to suggest trying a car and taking it to an event, while making those machines cheaper to purchase. On garages, he described the goal as “giving players agency over the place where they keep their cars.” These comments explain the design intent; they do not establish how frequently players encounter each feature.
Japan was itself a long-requested setting. Playground Games Art Director Don Arceta said, “For a long time, Japan has been top of Horizon fans’ wish lists, so we’re excited to finally be bringing this much-requested location to players in Forza Horizon 6.” Cultural Consultant Kyoko Yamashita described its contrasts as “a neighborhood shrine beside a small workshop beside a neon arcade.” Both comments appeared in Xbox Wire’s interview about the Japan setting.

What accessibility and PC features were announced?
Accessibility options
The announcement named a customizable High Contrast mode, Car Proximity Radar and AutoDrive. Xbox Wire also listed American Sign Language and British Sign Language support as coming in a later update. That timing qualification matters: the announcement did not say those sign-language options were available at launch. The release announcement and Xbox Wire preview describe the announced options.
PC graphics and settings
On compatible graphics cards, the PC feature article describes ray-traced reflections and global illumination. It also lists graphics previews, live memory figures, the ability to change settings without restarting, and a benchmark mode. The article does not establish a universal performance level or recommended PC configuration; results depend on hardware and settings. See Playground Games’ PC feature overview.

What was known about updates after launch?
In a May 22, 2026 thank-you post, Playground Games said it was working on identified improvements and developing future content updates. At that point, the studio described new series updates as monthly and pointed players to a feedback portal where they could suggest and upvote changes. That was the cadence stated in May, not a guarantee of the current schedule or a list of what remains outstanding. For the latest status, use the studio’s dated posts and release notes.
