You can’t reliably force a bot-only public match in Fortnite. Epic says matchmaking considers skill, but it does not promise that every opponent will be a bot—or even have the same skill level as you. A low-level alternate-account workaround is discussed by players, but it is unverified, inconsistent, and may run afoul of Epic’s stated position on smurfing.
Can you get guaranteed bot lobbies in Fortnite?
No user-controlled method for forcing bot-only public matches is documented by Epic. Its current matchmaking explanation says the system considers player skill, while noting that opponents will not necessarily have the same skill. It also says opponents may become more skilled as a player improves.
Bots are part of Fortnite’s matchmaking design. In an October 2019 update, Epic described them as a way to help players improve. That post also said a separate “vs. Bot” mode was being considered at the time; it does not establish whether such a mode is available now.
What about the low-level account workaround?
Community posts describe partying with a new or low-level account, starting a match, and then having that account leave. Reports disagree about account-level thresholds, modes, and whether the approach still works. Epic does not document or endorse it, and the reports do not show that it reliably produces bot-only matches.

Epic’s October 3, 2019 matchmaking and bots update states: “Smurfing is a bannable offense.” Epic describes smurfing as seeking easier matches and says it may act when repeated reports lead it to believe a player is negatively affecting others’ experience. That makes a tactic built around a lower-level account a policy risk; it should not be presented as safe or guaranteed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does Epic’s cheating ban policy apply to this tactic?
Not automatically, based on the published policy cited here. Epic’s February 27, 2025 anti-cheat update says a first cheating offense would receive a one-year matchmaking ban beginning in April 2025, and a second offense would result in a lifetime ban. That announcement addresses cheating and competitive integrity; it does not specifically classify the community-reported alternate-account tactic or establish that those cheating penalties apply to it.

What should you do instead?
- Play normally and let skill-aware matchmaking place you; Epic does not guarantee bot-only matches.
- Do not rely on a particular account level, mode, or party sequence as a confirmed method. The reported details conflict and are not official guidance.
- Avoid using an alternate account to seek easier opponents if you want to stay clear of Epic’s stated smurfing policy.
