That is not a minor detail. If you play exclusively fullscreen and do not want to change the game’s display mode, FPS Overlay may be unusable even if it works correctly on the desktop or in borderless mode. The listed graphics APIs—DirectX 9–12, OpenGL, and Vulkan—also do not guarantee compatibility with every game using those APIs. Game-specific presentation methods, anti-cheat behavior, drivers, and other overlays can still affect the result.

For Afterburner’s OSD, MSI’s documented setup path is Settings → Monitoring, where you select a sensor and enable Show in On-Screen Display. RTSS must be installed for the in-game display to appear; see MSI’s technical documentation and OSD guide.
Is it a genuine MSI Afterburner replacement?
It can replace Afterburner’s basic monitoring overlay for some users, but not Afterburner as a whole.

The game crashes
- Disable FPS Overlay and confirm whether the crash disappears.
- Reboot after any PawnIO change.
- Disable other overlays.
- Try borderless-windowed mode.
- Test another game.
- Remove or rename the local
config.inito reset settings. - Reinstall only from the official Releases page.
- If reporting the issue, include the game, GPU, driver, Windows build, rendering API, and overlay settings.
Alternatives worth considering
MSI Afterburner plus RTSS
