Free FiveM hosting is useful for learning, testing resources, and running a small private session, but it is not a standardized service. You may either run FXServer yourself on a computer you control or use a provider’s no-cost managed tier. In both cases, the Cfx.re software and registration key can be free while CPU time, memory, bandwidth, storage, backups, support, and uptime remain limited or conditional. The practical question is therefore not simply whether hosting costs zero, but what the host allocates, what it can suspend, and whether you can move your files when the server grows.
What “free FiveM hosting” actually means
FiveM servers run on FXServer, the server runtime maintained for the Cfx.re platform. “Free hosting” describes how the machine is paid for, not a special FiveM edition with a universal feature set. There are two fundamentally different arrangements.

Self-hosting on your own computer
You install FXServer on a Windows or Linux machine, create a Cfx.re server registration key, configure the server, and keep the computer online. The monetary cost can be zero if you already have suitable hardware and an internet connection. You remain responsible for electricity, router and firewall configuration, operating-system updates, artifact updates, security, backups, monitoring, and every outage.

A provider supplies the computer and network service. It may install FXServer, bind the required port, and give you a txAdmin address, so you can concentrate on resources and configuration instead of operating-system administration. The provider’s terms determine the real limits: a free plan may sleep when idle, cap players, restrict CPU or memory, delete inactive servers, block database access, or omit backups and support. Two offers advertised as “free FiveM hosting” can therefore behave very differently.

Godlike.Host provides FiveM game-server hosting through its own game panel, and its FiveM page offers a free 1 GB server card for 10 slots; the free server must be extended every 3 hours, has limited panel features, and uses one location. It is not on Cfx.re’s list of authorized FiveM hosts (fivem.net, 10 Oct 2026).
| Question | Self-hosted | Managed free tier |
|---|---|---|
| Who supplies the machine? | You | The hosting provider |
| Who controls network and ports? | You and your internet service | Usually the provider, within its allowed port rules |
| Who applies operating-system and artifact updates? | You | Provider policy may control timing or versions |
| Where do backups exist? | Only where you create them | Only if the plan explicitly includes them |
| What ends the service? | Your hardware, power, connection, or maintenance | Idle, quota, abuse, or suspension rules in the provider’s terms |

FXServer
FXServer is the process that runs the world, resources, player connections, and server configuration. It is the essential runtime; a hosting company does not replace it with a simpler “free” version. You still need compatible resources and a correctly configured server.
txAdmin
txAdmin is bundled with FXServer rather than being a separate download. Its web panel provides recipe-based deployment, start, stop, and restart controls, configuration editing, access control, logs, monitoring, and in-game administration. On a managed plan, the host may give you a ready-made txAdmin URL. On a self-hosted machine, you start the server and open the address reported by the FXServer console, then protect the panel with a strong account and limited administrator access.

The Cfx.re registration key
A server registration key is free to create through a Cfx.re account. The key authenticates your server with the platform; it does not pay for compute, storage, bandwidth, database service, customer support, or an uptime guarantee. Keep it private, remove it from screenshots and public repositories, and replace it if you believe it has been exposed.
Hardware and network requirements
Cfx.re recommends an x86-64 system running Linux or Windows (7/2008 R2 or newer in the cited guidance), decent upstream connectivity, and preferably a multi-core processor. These are starting requirements, not a promise that every script collection or player count will run acceptably on a free machine.
- Processor: A multi-core CPU gives the server more room for game logic, scripting, database work, and operating-system tasks.
- Architecture and operating system: Use x86-64 Windows or Linux supported by the current FXServer artifacts you intend to run.
- Upload capacity: Players send state to the server as well as receive updates. An unstable or heavily shared upstream connection can create latency even when the CPU is idle.
- Availability: A self-hosted computer must remain powered on and connected. Sleep mode, reboots, changing home IP addresses, and consumer-router rules can make the server disappear.
- Storage: Leave room for artifacts, resources, logs, database files, and backups. A small free disk quota can become a failure point before CPU usage does.
For a managed service, ask which of these resources are dedicated, shared, burstable, or subject to a quota. A plan that lists only “RAM” or “unlimited slots” does not reveal how much CPU time is available when several servers share the same host.

How many players can a free server hold?
The platform’s headline capacity is not the same as a free provider’s allowance. Cfx.re’s current hosting information states that OneSync Infinity supports up to 48 players by default, while Element Club can enable up to 2,048 players. Those figures describe platform-level capability under the applicable entitlement and configuration; a provider can impose a much lower cap on a free plan, and your scripts and hardware may become the bottleneck first.
Recommended Free Tools
| Figure | What it means | What it does not mean |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 48 players by default with OneSync Infinity | The default platform-level player figure cited by Cfx.re | It is not a guarantee that a particular free host supplies 48 slots |
| Up to 2,048 players with Element Club | A higher platform-level limit when the relevant Element Club entitlement is enabled | It does not make a free tier capable of that load or remove script, CPU, network, and administrative limits |
Before inviting players, test with the exact resources, framework, database workload, and voice or moderation tools you plan to use. Record server tick behavior, script warnings, memory growth, and connection stability as you add players. If the provider advertises a slot number without defining CPU, memory, or suspension conditions, treat the slot number as a marketing ceiling rather than a performance guarantee.
Terms to inspect before choosing a free tier
Read the written plan terms and acceptable-use policy, not only the feature list. The following details determine whether a free server is a useful test environment or a risky home for a public community.

| Term | Why it matters | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| CPU and RAM allocation | Script-heavy servers can lag when resources are shared or throttled | Is the allocation dedicated, capped, or burstable, and what happens at the limit? |
| Player slots | The advertised number may be lower than platform capability | What is the enforced cap on this plan? |
| Idle shutdown and uptime | A sleeping server is unsuitable for scheduled events | How long can it be idle, and how quickly does it restart? |
| Suspension and deletion | Inactivity, abuse reports, or quota breaches can remove access | What notice is given, and how long are files retained? |
| Storage and backups | Logs and databases grow; free disks can fill silently | Are backups automatic, downloadable, and stored separately? |
| Database access | Many frameworks depend on a database for characters, inventory, and economy data | Is a database included, and can you export it? |
| Network ports and DDoS protection | Restricted ports can prevent resources from working; protection varies | Which inbound and outbound ports are allowed, and what mitigation is included? |
| Artifact and update policy | Provider-controlled versions can affect compatibility | Who chooses the FXServer artifact, and can you roll back? |
| Support and portability | A locked panel or missing export can trap your project | Can you download the server files, configuration, and database? |
No universal provider limits can be assumed from the word “free.” Confirm every number and retention period directly before installing a large framework or importing irreplaceable data.
Self-hosting setup: a practical sequence
- Prepare the machine. Use a supported x86-64 Windows or Linux installation, a multi-core processor where possible, stable upstream connectivity, sufficient storage, and an account that is not used for everyday browsing.
- Obtain the current FXServer artifacts. Download the build appropriate to your operating system from the official FiveM/Cfx.re distribution channel and keep the artifact version recorded for rollback and troubleshooting.
- Create the registration key. Sign in to your Cfx.re account, create a server key for the intended server, and store it outside public repositories and screenshots.
- Deploy through txAdmin. Launch FXServer and follow the txAdmin setup page shown by the console. Choose a recipe or configure resources manually, set the server name and endpoint values, and apply the registration key where the panel requests it.
- Secure administration. Change default credentials, use unique strong passwords, grant only the permissions each administrator needs, and avoid exposing the panel more broadly than necessary.
- Configure the network. Allow the required FiveM traffic through the host firewall and router according to the current artifact documentation. Test from a separate connection rather than assuming that a local connection proves public reachability.
- Back up before adding complexity. Copy configuration files, resource manifests, scripts, and database data to a separate device. Test that a backup can actually be restored.
- Load-test gradually. Join with a small group, inspect txAdmin logs and resource timings, then increase concurrency. Fix errors before opening the server to a larger public audience.
Self-hosting gives you control, but it also makes every interruption your responsibility. A household power cut, router update, or unpatched operating system is an operational event, not a provider support ticket.

- Read the plan and suspension rules first. Save a copy of the terms, including idle thresholds, storage limits, deletion windows, and acceptable-use restrictions.
- Confirm access. Verify that you receive txAdmin access, the required network port, database credentials if applicable, and a way to export files and data.
- Check artifact control. Ask which FXServer version is installed, how updates are announced, and whether a rollback is possible when a resource breaks.
- Deploy a minimal test. Start with the base recipe and a few known resources. Confirm that players can connect, logs are visible, and restarts preserve configuration.
- Automate your own exports. Download configuration and database backups on a schedule that fits the plan’s limits. Do not assume the provider’s snapshot, if any, is downloadable.
- Watch quotas. Monitor CPU, memory, disk, database size, and bandwidth. Remove unused logs and resources before a hard quota causes suspension.
Provider-managed convenience is valuable only while you can recover your work. Export rights should be a requirement, not an afterthought.

Security and maintenance pitfalls
- Exposed administration: A publicly reachable txAdmin panel with weak credentials can let an attacker stop the server or alter files. Restrict access where possible and review administrator accounts regularly.
- Unpatched artifacts and resources: Updates can contain security and compatibility fixes. Test them in a copy, keep the previous working build, and document what changed.
- Untrusted scripts: Every resource expands the attack and performance surface. Inspect permissions, dependencies, update history, and database behavior before installation.
- No verified restore: A backup that has never been restored is an assumption. Periodically restore to a separate test instance and confirm that character, inventory, and configuration data survive.
- Hidden suspension triggers: Idle shutdown, excessive CPU, abuse complaints, or a full disk can look like random outages. Keep the provider’s thresholds and contact route in your operations notes.
When a free server has become too small
Growth is usually visible before the server reaches its advertised slot cap. Rising concurrent players, longer save times, database locks, script warnings, memory pressure, and tick-time spikes indicate that workload—not the registration key—is consuming the available capacity. Scheduled events also expose weaknesses: a service that sleeps after inactivity or restarts without notice cannot provide dependable event hosting.
- Players report repeated timeouts or rubber-banding while the network appears reachable.
- txAdmin shows resource timeouts, escalating memory use, or frequent restarts.
- The database approaches its quota or writes fail during peak activity.
- The provider cannot explain CPU throttling, port restrictions, or artifact versions.
- You cannot download a complete copy of the server and database.
When any of these conditions affects a public community, move before an outage forces the decision. Cfx.re’s hosting page points users toward authorized hosting partners, and its March 2025 announcement added further approved providers. Selecting an authorized partner gives you a defensible starting point for support and platform compatibility; still compare the actual contract, resources, backups, and exit terms.
Monetization and compliance
Turning a free test server into a paid community introduces platform-policy questions. FiveM identifies Tebex as its exclusive monetization partner and directs administrators to consult the Platform License Agreement. Donations, subscriptions, virtual items, queues, and paid assets are not automatically permitted merely because a server is popular or its hosting bill is zero. Read the current agreement, keep transaction and entitlement records, and make sure your resources and promotions follow the applicable rules before accepting money.

A decision checklist
- Choose self-hosting when you already have an always-on x86-64 machine, stable upstream connectivity, and the time to handle security, updates, backups, and networking.
- Choose a managed free tier when your priority is learning or prototyping and you can accept provider-controlled limits, possible suspension, and limited support.
- Plan an upgrade when uptime, predictable capacity, database durability, support, or public-community commitments matter more than a zero monthly bill.
Before committing, write down the provider’s CPU and memory limits, enforced slots, idle and suspension rules, storage and backup method, database and port access, artifact policy, support route, DDoS terms, and export procedure. If any answer is missing, the server is not yet a dependable foundation for a public FiveM community.
