Trials and free tiers are simplest but impose limits such as ads, short sessions, player caps and reduced file access. Self-hosting has no hosting bill, but you supply the hardware, electricity, Java 25 installation, network configuration and ongoing administration.
Prefer not to run the server on your own PC? Godlike.Host offers hosted Hytale servers with free DDoS protection and up to three free backups a day.
The limits below reflect vendor and guide claims available on October 14, 2026. Free-host terms can change, and no provider listed here has been independently tested.

What “free Hytale server hosting” actually includes
“Free” can describe different cost models. A trial may give you a server for a fixed number of hours, while a free tier may continue indefinitely only if you accept advertisements, renew sessions or stay below a resource limit. Self-hosting avoids a monthly hosting charge, but it is not cost-free in the broader sense: your machine, electricity, internet connection and time are the resources being used.
- Commercial trial: A managed panel is available for a short period, often to evaluate the service before paying.
- Restricted free tier: The provider supplies a permanent or renewable allowance with limits on RAM, slots, uptime, ads or controls.
- Self-hosting: You install the official dedicated server on hardware you control and expose it to players over the internet.
Before choosing, check whether the offer is permanent or temporary, how sessions are extended, whether advertisements are required, how many players are allowed, and whether you can access server files and configuration. A free panel that cannot open the required game port may be unsuitable for a public server.

Free Hytale server hosting options compared
| Option | Cost model and stated limits | Resources or slots | Control and networking |
|---|---|---|---|
| MineStrator free trial | Vendor-stated 12-hour free trial. A 2026 article also promotes free hosting without a credit card. | Trial resources depend on the selected offer. Its MyBox free Hytale plan is stated to include 4 GB DDR4 RAM and NVMe storage. | Managed hosting panel; the available trial or plan determines file and network controls. |
| Gaming4Free | Vendor-stated three free hours; watching advertisements can extend access to as much as 24 hours. | 3 GB RAM and 20 player slots are advertised. | Managed free tier; confirm whether the panel permits the UDP port required by Hytale before relying on it for outside players. |
| AxentHost | Vendor-stated free hosting with no card required. | Claims up to 16 GB RAM free. | Check the current panel, uptime policy, slots and networking terms before creating a world. |
| Self-hosted dedicated server | No hosting subscription. You provide hardware, electricity, internet service and administration. | At least 4 GB RAM is cited as a floor in secondary guides; other guides recommend 6 GB or more, with 6–16 GB depending on players and mods. | Full access to files and configuration. You must expose UDP port 5520 (QUIC) on the server firewall and router, unless you deliberately change the bind port. |
These are advertised or guide-reported figures, not independent benchmarks. A provider may suspend an idle server, reclaim resources or alter its free plan, so save world files regularly and read the current terms before inviting a community.
How to host a Hytale server for free with a provider
1. Confirm the offer is usable for your group
Read the plan page for the exact session duration, renewal method, advertising requirement, player-slot cap, RAM allocation and storage policy. “Free” does not automatically mean 24/7. Gaming4Free, for example, advertises three hours initially and up to 24 hours after watching ads; that is a very different fit from a continuously available community server.
2. Check account and payment requirements
Some trials require no card, while others ask for billing details even when the first period is free. MineStrator’s 2026 promotional material states that its free Hytale hosting does not require a credit card; verify that condition at signup because promotional terms can change. Never assume that a free tier will remain free after the trial timer expires.
3. Create the instance and record its limits
Choose the Hytale server template, region and version offered by the panel. Record the assigned RAM, storage, slot count and expiration time. If the panel gives you a temporary hostname, note whether it changes after a restart. Download a backup of any world or configuration files before the free allocation ends.

4. Test joining before announcing the address
Start the server, join from the same network and then test from a separate connection if possible. Confirm that players can authenticate, that the advertised slot count is real, and that restarting the instance does not erase the world. If the provider does not expose the required UDP connection or blocks custom networking, it may only be suitable for private experimentation.
5. Plan for expiry or suspension
Set a reminder before the trial or free-session limit. Export the world, configuration and logs while the server is running. A provider can reclaim an expired instance without preserving data, so a free host should not be your only copy of a long-running world.

How to host a Hytale server for free on your own hardware
Self-hosting gives you the most control and avoids a hosting subscription. The official dedicated server software is free to run, but the operator needs a Hytale account that owns the game, a compatible Java installation, sufficient memory and a reachable network connection.
Hardware and software requirements
- Java: Java 25 is required by the current secondary setup guides; Eclipse Temurin is recommended, with x64 and arm64 builds cited.
- Memory: One guide describes 4 GB as a floor. Other guides recommend 6 GB or 6–16 GB depending on player count and mods. Another example configuration suggests 8 GB RAM, four CPU cores and 20 GB of SSD space for about 20 players. These are guide recommendations, not published official Hytale performance guarantees.
- Storage: Use SSD storage where possible and leave room for the server files, assets, world growth, backups and logs. The 20 GB figure above is a planning example, not a universal minimum.
- Internet: Upload capacity matters because every remote player receives world and gameplay data. One guide suggests 10 Mbit/s upload for its example configuration; actual needs vary with player count, activity and configuration.
- Account: The account that owns Hytale must link the server during authentication.

java -version
If the command reports an older major version, install Java 25 or update the system path before launching the server. Keep only the intended Java runtime in the launch path so the server does not start with an incompatible version.
Place the server files
Put HytaleServer.jar and the required Assets.zip in a dedicated folder. Start the jar with the assets path supplied explicitly:

Use an absolute path if the files are stored elsewhere. Keep the folder outside temporary directories and give the service account write access to its world and log directories.
Authenticate the server
At the server console, run the device-login flow:
/auth login device
Complete the displayed device authorization with the Hytale account that owns the game. The account link is required before players can join. Treat the device code and login session as secrets; do not post console screenshots containing them.

Open the correct network port
Hytale uses QUIC over UDP port 5520, not TCP. Permit inbound UDP 5520 in the operating-system firewall and forward UDP 5520 from the router to the machine running the server. Opening only TCP, or changing the router rule without changing the host firewall, will leave remote players unable to connect.
If port 5520 is already occupied, choose another port with the server’s --bind setting, then create matching firewall and router rules for that port. Give friends the public address and selected UDP port, not a private address such as 192.168.x.x.
Launch and test
- Start the server and watch the console for a completed startup and authentication state.
- Join locally from the host machine or local network to verify the world loads.
- Test from a different internet connection, such as a phone hotspot, to confirm that router forwarding works.
- Invite one or two players first and monitor memory, CPU, upload usage and log errors before increasing the group size.
- Stop the process cleanly before copying world files so the backup is not taken during a write.
Hytale dedicated server requirements: resolving the RAM confusion
Guides disagree because they describe different targets. The 4 GB figure is presented as a floor in one set of instructions, while other guides recommend 6 GB or more and give 6–16 GB ranges for larger player counts or modded servers. A separate example uses four CPU cores and 8 GB RAM for 20 players. None of these figures should be treated as an official, universal Hytale statistic.
Use the lowest figure only for a small, lightly loaded test and leave memory for the operating system. For a persistent group, start with at least 6 GB available to the server host, watch actual usage and increase allocation if the process approaches its limit or players experience pauses. Mods, view distance, world generation and simultaneous activity can change the requirement. Allocating all physical RAM to Java can make the machine less stable, so reserve memory for the operating system and other services.

Common failure modes and fixes
Players cannot connect from outside the house
- Verify that the server is listening on UDP, not only TCP.
- Check both firewall and router rules for UDP 5520, or the replacement port selected with
--bind. - Confirm the forwarding target has a stable local address.
- Ask the internet provider whether the connection uses carrier-grade NAT; inbound forwarding may not work without a public address or relay.
The server starts and then stops or becomes unresponsive
- Confirm Java reports version 25.
- Check available RAM and leave headroom for the operating system.
- Review logs for a missing or unreadable
Assets.zip, permissions problem or damaged world. - On a free host, check whether the session timer, ad extension or idle policy has ended the instance.
Authentication blocks players
Repeat /auth login device and finish the device flow with the Hytale-owning account. Do not substitute an account that can play through a family or shared arrangement but does not own the game entitlement required to link the server.
The free provider deletes the world
Export backups before the advertised expiry, suspension or restart. Keep at least one copy on your own machine. A managed panel may not provide a recovery window after a free allocation is reclaimed.
Which free option fits your use case?
- Short test with no server administration: Choose a trial such as the MineStrator offer, provided its time window is enough for your test.
- Small group willing to accept ads or session limits: A restricted tier such as Gaming4Free may fit a short-lived session, with its advertised 3 GB RAM, 20 slots and ad-based extension understood in advance.
- Need more advertised memory without a card: Investigate AxentHost’s stated offer of up to 16 GB RAM, but verify current uptime, slots, storage and networking terms before migrating a world.
- Long-running world, custom files or mods: Self-hosting is the only option here that gives you direct control over the dedicated files and configuration. Budget time for Java updates, backups, firewall maintenance and troubleshooting.
For any option, start with a small private test. Measure real memory and network behavior, confirm that remote players can connect over UDP, and only then build a public community around the server.
The Bottom Line
Free Hytale hosting is realistic, but every route trades money for limits or maintenance. Provider trials and free tiers are convenient for experiments; self-hosting is the durable free-software route when you can supply Java 25, adequate RAM, account authentication and correctly configured UDP networking.
